Samyang/Rokinon Remaster Slim RS 21-28-32

An unusual lens kit from Korean lens maker Samyang, and also sold under the name Rokinon. The "Remaster Slim" has an interchangeable core to deliver full frame 21mm, 28m and 32mm focal lengths for Sony E-mount. It's a little weird and lots of fun!

Tutorial: a Comic strip from A to Z with Krita

After a year of posting weekly comic strip on my social media, I wanted to film the making of the episode 53 published on the 20 May and build with all the 20 hours of video a tutorial on how to achieve this type of comic strip using Krita, from A to Z!

Chapter:
00:00 intro
00:49 Scenario
08:29 Panels
25:41 Speechbubbles
37:59 Layout
40:43 Sketch
44:37 Drawing / Inking
53:45 Coloring
58:03 outro

This tutorial has longer chapter on the new comic panel tool (in 5.3) and explains a full setup on how to use it, even for more complex comic pages, and also I spend time on the creation of speechbubbles, text (also new features of 5.3) and consideration regarding the layout and composition. The fundamental stone of getting a comic easy to read!

However, the inking and coloring chapter are a bit more lightweight, mainly because I already have many video on my channel about painting, shading, and line-art with Krita and I wanted to keep the video lenght under one hour. I'll certainly make more video about those specific workflow step later!

I hope you'll like the video, the first one I record and video edit on Wayland (and it wasn't a challenge at all; everything worked just as expected).

Retrofest 26 and Zzap! Live - A Fortnight of Retro FUN!

Special thanks to PCBWay for sponsoring this video. https://www.pcbway.com/

Join me for the highlight of the year, Retro Fest! It's an incredible weekend packed with vintage computing, rare hardware, and the amazing retro community.

Before diving into the main event, we take a quick look back at my recent trips to Zapp! Live, a fantastic Commodore-focused event where I spotted a brilliant "Amiga in an Amiga" mini build, and then off to the Retro Collective Museum.

Once we hit the show floor at Retro Fest, the sheer variety of retro tech is staggering. We get up close with some truly fascinating machines and modifications, including:
• A 4G-connected OPL browsing Ceefax
• A vintage PERQ 2 graphical workstation from 1984
• A Victor 9000 business computer • A Sun SPARC industrial ATX board running inside a mid-2000s gaming PC case
• An incredible custom ZX Spectrum video chip upgrade capable of 848x480 resolution
• A beautifully engineered Z80 CP/M pocket calculator
• A 1958 Siemens T100 Telex machine operating on the modern i-Telex network

A massive thank you to Tony and Pete from Short Circuit for organizing such a stellar event, and to everyone who stopped to chat. I walked away with some amazing new project pieces to tackle in future videos, including a Jupiter Ace recreation, an Acorn Electron reproduction board from Mark71, and a stack of RM 380Z boards from the RM User Group. I also managed to get a special signature from Lemmings creator Mike Dailly!

Be sure to check out Seb's Place TV for more on the Roaming Spectrum featured in this video. https://youtu.be/uOpcmWpkS4o

Thanks for watching, and I'll see you in the next one!

BYD Did What Tesla Never Would. Just Not For The Reasons You'd Hope

At the tail end of 2016, Nikki sat on a press call with other journalists — and Tesla CEO Elon Musk — after the automaker announced its latest iteration of its semi-autonomous driver assistance system: Tesla Autopilot 2.0.

She asked a simple question: since Volvo had just promised to indemnify drivers against blame if its semi-autonomous system caused an accident, would Tesla do the same thing? Elon Musk said "No" — but not with a simple reply. He did so by railing against automotive journalists who he accused of killing people.

It's been ten years — and we just heard of an automaker finally promising to indemnify its customers from blame, and financial costs, if its semi-autonomous system caused an accident. Enter BYD, which is making that bold promise in relation to its own system — God's Eye. But while BYD is making the pledge, and the automotive media is excited by the promise, there's a layer of nuance missing.

So today, we're going to dig deep, examine the past and the present, and ask just why Tesla never offered indemnity — while BYD now is. Unfortunately, it's not for the reasons we'd hope. And the two firms' very different approaches come back to the same base motivation: money and survival.
