I'm not with the SWF, but today they announce a $20,000 grant for a team of a developer and a content creator. I'm no developer, but if anyone wants to apply with me, I'm up for it. :D You can be a part of more than one team. They obviously can't and won't take all entries, but why not try?

Here's the page:

Today, with the help of our partner the Interledger Foundation, we are announcing a new program of grants for multimedia software and creators. In this program, we are asking software developers and publishers to partner to make new and better content on the Fediverse.

Multimedia, such as audio, video, and images, provides an engaging experience for Fediverse users. It can give a more visceral social and media experience than text alone. Multimedia software, however, can be difficult to develop, host, and use, and integrating it with other ActivityPub services takes time.

It’s also challenging to produce engaging media on the Fediverse. It can be hard to develop an audience, work with unfamiliar tools, and understand the different dynamics of a federated architecture.

Our intent with the Fediverse Multimedia Grants program is to bring more, and newer, rich content to the Fediverse for people to enjoy. We want to give creators a chance to get their feet under them, develop an audience, and make a permanent home on the Fediverse. We also want this program to help developers concentrate on creators’ needs — authoring, editing, organizing and publishing rich, engaging content.

For this program, we are offering grants of up to US$20,000 to developer/creator teams to start new publications on the Fediverse. We expect the teams to work in close cooperation, providing mutual support and feedback. Our expected outcome is ActivityPub-enabled software that’s better fitted to the needs of creators, and new publications with a foothold in the Fediverse.

Applications are open today at the Fediverse Multimedia Grants round of our grants portal. Applications are only for developer/creator teams. For publishers who aren’t familiar with Fediverse software, or developers who don’t have a good idea for a publisher to work with, please feel free to contact us and we’ll try to point you in the right direction to make a match.

Important dates for the program:

Applications open: 7 Oct 2026 (today)
Applications due: 4 Nov 2026
Decisions announced: 18 Nov 2026
Projects start: 1 Dec 2026
Please ask questions in the comments and replies for this post, or contact us privately. I (Evan) will also be organizing a session on the grant program at Fediforum today, 7 Oct 2026.

Thanks so much to the Interledger Foundation who generously funded this and other programs at the Social Web Foundation and who have been excellent creative partners in crafting this program.

Or 'What is PeerTube lacking that you simply cannot do without?'

I believe it's a safe assumption that fediverse users want to move away from the monopolies and closed gardens so often associated with video streaming, and yet it's not a task that's ever been made easy. Maybe an ounce of inspiration is the cue we need, and so my question to you is; What's Stopping you from using PeerTube?

It's been a while since we last talked about EV battery health, and in that time a fair bit has changed. Some of the advice we all used to give has been overtaken by real-world fleet data — and with LFP packs turning up in more and more cars, what was good practice for an NCM battery doesn't always hold true any more.

So today we're going deep: how to find out what chemistry your car actually has, why your EV behaves nothing like your phone, what the data really says about fast charging and spirited driving, and the handful of habits that will keep your EV's battery healthy for as long as possible.

• Chapters *:

0:00 Introduction
1:55 Why old battery advice no longer fits
2:43 Not every battery pack behaves the same
3:50 Your EV is not your phone
5:58 NCM — what it is, and its two problems
7:14 Why NCM gets its bad reputation
8:29 EV fires vs gas fires, in context
9:28 LFP — the other main chemistry
10:35 Lead-acid, Ni-Cad and Nickel Metal Hydride
11:48 An honorable nod to sodium ion
12:26 Support us! 13:02 How you charge and how you use your EV
16:12 The packed Tube train analogy
17:19 The 20-85% sweet spot
18:53 Coulomb counting — and when the BMS loses count
19:48 Why a full charge resets things (and what Ford is doing)
21:59 Fast charging: what the data actually says
25:06 Cooling, temperature and the Nissan LEAF lesson
26:38 Thermal management, and why preconditioning matters
27:11 Spirited driving: it's current, not power
30:50 Real-world data keeps beating the lab
32:53 So should you worry about razzing it?
33:27 Chemistry again: NCM vs LFP under load
35:44 Lithium plating and dendrites
36:42 The LFP voltage curve — and why it needs a full charge
38:21 Recommendations
42:28 Sometimes you roll a nat 1
43:30 Thanks, and goodbye!
