Okay, so for some context .ml is run by the Lemmy devs and the devs are openly tankies (authoritarian communists). .ml, along with Lemmygrad (also run by the devs) and Hexbear are known as the Tankie Triad. While not as bad as the other two, .ml still has a lot of tankies compared to instances that aren't part of the triad. Additionally, .ml used to be the recommended instance (until .world came along), making it one of the more populated instances. Most other instances defederate with Lemmygrad and Hexbear, but not necessarily .ml.

Basically, there's a lot of extremely opinionated and often combative people there and provoking them (intentionally or not) is very easy.

Sega released the Genesis/Mega Drive in 1988, then to extend its capabilities they released the Sega CD/Mega CD addon in 1991, which was followed by a second addon, the 32X, in 1994. There were even some games that required both add-ons, resulting in a high initial investment from consumers. The base Genesis/Mega Drive was massively successful outside of Japan and the Sega CD/Mega CD did reasonably well, but the 32X flopped. This was due to a lack of interest, partially because they also released the Genesis'/Mega Drive's successor, the Sega Saturn, in 1994 (the 32X actually released after the Saturn in Japan).

In the fourth-generation console war Sega only had to deal with Nintendo as their main competitor. For the fifth-generation there was a second front. PlayStation came out in 1994 in Japan and was a success from launch. Sega was terrified. Both the Saturn and PlayStation would debut internationally in September 1995 and Sega knew they had to do something decisive to get ahead. E3 1995 would make or break Saturn in America and Sega had a plan to beat Sony. At their presentation Sega declared that Saturn would be available immediately, four months ahead of the previous release date, at select retailers at a price of $399. This gamble backfired massively on Sega. The retailers that weren't part of the early release were pissed and some even boycotted Sega over this. The second blow came from Sony. At the PlayStation presentation they had one of their presenter walk on stage, say "299" and leave. This number was PlayStation's price.

By the time Dreamcast came out in 1998 Sega had tanked their reputation with consumers and retailers and they never stood a chance against the PlayStation 2. Additionally, the PS2 had almost complete backwards compatibility with its predecessor and it played DVDs. It had better specs than the Dreamcast, but not GameCube and Xbox. It is also worth noting that the PS2 was so successful that it actually outsold all three of it's competitors combined.

My understanding is that it's related to the decline of three and four engine planes. Originally airlines preferred them over two engined planes because they were safer, had greater range, and could carry more passengers. On the other hand, they were more expensive to operate due to requiring more maintenance and fuel. Additionally, these planes were larger and couldn't get into places that smaller twinjets could. Eventually technology improved to the point that the (literal) costs of more engines began to outweigh the benefits to airlines. These days most passenger airlines only operate twinjets and the remaining tri- and quadjets are relegated to cargo.

The init system is the first thing that runs on boot and kind of allows other stuff to run. It's not really something the average user needs to worry about.

Systemd is probably the most common init on Linux distros these days. Some people don't like it. One reason is because it does a lot of things in addition to what traditional init systems do and that goes against the Unix philosophy (do one thing and do it well).

SysV, OpenRC, and runit are all more traditional init systems. I don't really have experience with them.

Devuan is basically just Debian without systemd. It's name is derived from Debian and VUA (Veteran Unix Admins, if I remember correctly).

Debian is a Linux distribution, meaning that it's a complete operating system based around the Linux kernel.

Ubuntu is another distribution and is derived from Debian. Ubuntu makes a lot of changes from Debian. It would be better to think of their relationship as parent and child rather than a superhero's alter ego.

Ubuntu is run by a company called Canonical. Over the years Canonical has made a number of controversial decisions (which I won't get in to) and that's why a lot of people don't like Ubuntu.

Debian, on the other hand is community run. Additionally, they tend to not make radical changes since their focus is on providing a stable operating system.

As for why there are more Ubuntu based distros than Debian, I'm not certain. My guess is because Ubuntu is (or was?) more user friendly out of the box and it was a lot of people's first distro for many years.

For your last question, I'd just go with the Debian version. As a beginner it would probably be easier to find help with that version. The Devuan version is aimed at more experienced users and old school sysadmins.

Are you referring to a drawing tablet? If so, then a good number of ones from the better known brands are supported by the kernel by default. Your safest bet though is Wacom. Wacom is definitely the best supported brand, but it tends to be more expensive than other brands (such as XP-pen and Huion). Non-Wacom branded tablets may require a little bit more initial configuration, like adding a udev rule (I had to do that for my Huion Inspiroy Ink).
