GM confirms $130,000 Cadillac Escalade IQ won’t have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto

Look, I'm not the target market for this anyway, and I know that. But I won't ever buy another car that doesn't have both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Especially now that head units aren't so simple to replace.

Like, no matter how good your software is when you release it, you're not going to have the same level of support, frequency of updates, timelines of new feature releases, and actual hardware upgrades (via my phone) I'd get from you having AA or CarPlay.

Both AA and CarPlay have gotten pretty damn good in the last few years too.

I drive a 2008 Mustang and I finally replaced my head unit a couple years ago with the Sony XAV-AX5000 and it was the best upgrade I could've possibly made to my car. I was really feeling like getting something new because I wanted modern convenience and this $350 upgrade gave me the luxury of perpetually being up to date. The only downside is that it doesn't have wireless AA, but hardly anything does.

And no, I'm not good with having just one. My last several phones have been Pixels, but my GF and my Best Friend have iPhones. I need to be able to do both seamlessly. Plus, I don't want my car locking me in to a phone OS. If apple releases an iPhone with USB-C, AoD, side loading (all of which should be in the next phone), add better UI scaling options, and they fix the back gesture, I'll want to switch and I don't want my car to keep me from doing that.

Hasbro May Be Eyeing AI for Dungeons & Dragons

Ever since I started studying AI back in 2015, this has been my #1 interest and end goal for AI.

I don't think LLMs are quite good enough for what I want yet, but in a few years I think we may be there.

I really don't understand why anyone would be complaining about this. No one is going to force you to use it. You can still run your own campaigns, this will just be an amazing tool to make it more accessible to new players, and take a lot of the work off of a DM that doesn't have the time or want to put in the effort.

Imagine being able to select a setting and a ruleset, and having an AI generate an entire campaign for you along with music, location art, character art, etc, then be able to handle the rules for you, track your stats and equipment, etc and maybe even generate art for cool moments when you roll a crit.

It's currently a great tool for a DM. I always end up being the DM for my groups and I've really enjoyed using LLMs and Art generators as tools, but if I could have a competent AI DM run the game for us so I could play, I would be SO happy.

This is amazing, and the negative response just seems like elitist, gatekeepy, crotchety bitter old man syndrome.

What are you Watching? (August 2023)

I've been working my through TNG. Watching every episode in order for the first time. I've always loved the show, but I only used to catch random episodes when they'd come on TV as a kid. Been slowly working my way through all of Trek for about two years. I started with ToS and it's movies, then watched The Animated Series.

Strange New Worlds, I've been watching as new episodes release, but when I heard the praise for the Lower Decks crossover, I decided to start and finish Lower Decks before I catch up on SNW. I'm about halfway through the second season of Lower Decks right now.

Discovery almost killed my interest in New Trek, but man the Orville and SNW really revived my love of Star Trek.

Once I finish Lower Decks, I'll get back up to date with SNW and keep working through TNG. Once I finish TNG, I think I'm gonna start Picard.

Oh, and I've also been keeping up with Futurama and recently watched Hello Tomorrow! And The Big Door Prize on Apple TV. They were both okay.
