Behold.

For those out of the loop with Bluey, it's a fucking amazing kids show. I really can't compare it to anything that came before, the style, the music, topics that they cover (and even how they approach things). It's truly a once in a lifetime show kinda like the original LOTR trilogy. Lola Sebastian just recently did a video touching on it and comparing it to the MAGA copycat, "The Mundane Misery of MAGA's Bluey Copycat". A good 2 hour video to put on for entertainment and get the gist of the show.

The gauntlet

I was a wee little lad when a neighborhood friend showed me what happens to a slug when you pour salt on it, how anyone can see that and condone or joke about the use is akin to gas chambers being "effective" for the nazis or death sentences.

Slugs are amazing, their benefits are like worms, birds, and legumes super packed into tiny squishy guys (they compost, spread seeds, and are a good protein source for nature (link)).

Slugs also don't just "show up" and sneak into the house. If you've got a gap under the door like that then EVERYTHING is getting in and your entrance is about as energy efficient as a barn door (for the love of god just get an under door weatherstrip for 10$ even if you rent).

Slugs rely on very moist conditions, your gutter/foundation drainage at that point should be a priority and will 100% make the problem naturally go away. If they're in your house, you should be concerned about possible health complications with whatever conditions are making it a viable habitat for them (probably an open crawlspace with plumbing leaks and water pooling from improper grading). I would probably be worrying about mold and termites more at that point than some slimy guys.

Just a reminder...

I remember growing up in the 90's and being acutely aware of the growing minimum wage. I knew no matter what that when I was able to get a job I would be guaranteed "this" amount and always thought about prices and how long I had to work to get something I wanted when I was an adult. Every small bump made it a little mini-celebration like I was getting a future raise that would allow me to have a better life.

Now? Shake and bake costs over 5$, I have to literally work over an hour to buy half a cup of "convenient" seasoned bread crumbs. I could buy the flour, make the bread, and process it to make my own... but now I'm out of time in the day to work enough to actually afford the meat or any other side item. Oh yeah, and at some point I should pay my bills and save for retirement -_-

*Permanently Deleted*

I just don't get why we're not training and endorsing out the next group with all this press. Sanders and Warren need to back and/or start a coalition of progressive up-and-coming leaders that they can help hone and introduce to the larger political landscape while they have the energy and influence. They need to stop being the only torch bearers and start bringing in underlings. Idc if they follow them around like a posse, might actually be better if they did. I would cuddle with Sanders all night if I could, I'm just tired of his name being the only one catching attention. The will try to bury any movement with him when his time comes, best to get ahead of it so momentum can keep going.

Iran War Megathread

Reply in thread

As someone who doesn't enjoy megathreads, is it just because people don't want to see multiple articles in their feed? I've seen megathreads

  • get abused by mods (mass deletion of anything even loosely related),
  • user engagement is buried (100 comments in 10 different articles is better than just 500 comments in a megathread to me),
  • and it's harder to see updates/new happenings without constantly checking back in for edits.

Mod megathread's also seems like an overreach of moderator's role. They are now in the driver seat of a pinned, mega popular post and it goes to their head (I've been in communities before where they just start blanketing megathreads for anything that's gaining traction and squash even legitimate posts). They now also have added workload onto themselves by having to curate even further what gets posted at their discretion (and competing with their own post).

Anon hates Apple

Reply in thread

Holy shit TIL, I had no clue this dude died because he was basically an anti-vaxxer/alternative medicine guy.

Jobs also believed that his commitment to vegan diets meant his body was flushed of mucus -- and that it meant he was free from body odor, so he didn't need to wear deodorant or shower regularly. Unsurprisingly, the book quotes former coworkers saying that he was very, very wrong. ..... One of his go-to stress relievers during Apple's early days was soaking his bare feet in the company toilets. (link)

his doctors advised him to seek surgery as soon as possible. Instead, he delayed the procedure for nine months and attempted to treat himself with alternative medicine. This fateful decision may have quickened Steve Jobs’ death — when he still could’ve been saved. (link)

Dozens attend 'Hetero Awesome Fest' in Idaho

That whole article is infuriating... WHAT WAS THE SONG!!

but seriously, this article paints such a sad sad picture for them

The festival, which drew roughly 30 to 50 people at any given time on both Friday and Saturday (at a park...in the state capitol.... it was just people wandering around wondering wtf was going on lol)

"He sang a song with lyrics that go against our values," Fitzpatrick said... "This is yet another example of lies and deceptions from the Pride community. That’s what they are: liars and deceivers. They do it to victimize children. It’s pathetic and evil."

like, ffs. That was such an insane comment to make after someone sings a song you don't like, but then you find out the rest of his "events"

various events, including "Beers for Breeders" gatherings, Conspiracy Theory Trivia Night, where patrons can win an AR-15 rifle, Christian singles events, Bible study sessions, and gatherings for flat-earthers.

postmarketOS v25.06: the one with systemd

I feel so proud of postmarketOS! I've been using them for 2nd life uses for phones, tablets, and chromebooks with very minimal problems. It's like having an obscure band you follow all of a sudden getting mentioned everywhere and I couldn't be happier for the project (like the 3rd time on Lemmy this week alone I've seen them mentioned).

If you have some scrap equipment throw it on and report your findings! There's a lot of testing that needs done and information needs to flow. I've done a "recipe" notebook with an old chromebook, a tablet for easy video viewing I can send videos to (instead of making my partner come to the comp), and like 3 other devices that I haven't finished with but pmOS will be a part of it.

Join their testing team if you have devices that aren't listed! Unlike most requirements, if it's not listed that just means it probably hasn't been tested...not that it doesn't work on your device. (they could probably also use some editors for their text instructions, it's quite back and forth with links trying to find proper instructions).

What weird food or dishes do you eat regularly at home that you would never serve to someone else?

my special treat that my partner hates for me to make but gobbles up bowls of: White Rice, Ground Beef, and Cream of Mushroom soup (campbells can). White rice like you like it, Ground the beef and salt generously after draining grease (helps the beef pop out more in the taste), then I usually do half of the milk called for with the soup.

Bed of RIce in a bowl, ground beef on top, then pour the cream of mushroom soup on it. Such a warm and crazy good taste but I get looks whenever I bring it up so I don't make it that often unless it's just me for a few days.

A woman brought her own snacks to Despicable Me 4. Then the police arrived

Here is the original posting from New Zealand Herald which has video of the incident (1 of 3 near identical pages, that website is a mess). I searched out the real one because that linked article is just horrible and unnecessary (idk why he felt cool putting "The only things I’m planning to sneak in are sleeping tablets." at the end).

For anyone wanting to get riled up, NZ Herald also has this wonderful little opinion piece from Ryan Bridge (a local broadcaster).

Ryan Bridge is wondering where people’s shame went when it comes to breaking the rules. This is not the most important story that you will hear today, but it grinds my gears. It’s a small, seemingly insignificant event, but I think it speaks to two things that I absolutely hate about the world that we live in right now.

The opinion article is just a shit show from what sounds like a pretty horrible and privileged person.

Chrome Canary just killed uBlock Origin and other Manifest V2 extensions

Hopefully wikipedia recognizes this as the official Canary in the Chrome mine. I was first impressed with chrome book because of seeing them used for education, getting my own laptop during school would've been mindblowing to kid me. I was unimpressed with the strangulation process of the OS but again shocked when they added a linux boot mode. There needs to be better alternatives by now, I would be ok with an OS developed by the department of education in conjunction with higher educational institutions. Could have a decent non-profit approach to a browser and ad blockers could legitimately be built in as a "protect the children" aim of approach.

The script is mysterious and important.

I don't get people sometimes. Here's a hollywood elite who thinks they have the ability to physically assault another person (and so fucking brazenly in front of the whole world) and never be held responsible. Fuck Will Smith and anything he profits from including recognition of past performances. Comments in here are acting like a bunch of wannabe-nostalgia-cucks who don't care as long as the individual did a silly little dance and entertained them some. Dude needs serious rehabilitation and a reality check which will never come to him because people would rather talk about his performances instead of the actual person.
