Should We Separate the Art from the Artist?
Gopnik talks about moral and artistic values while completely ignoring the moral implications of financially supporting a living artist and their problematic behaviour.

People who use apps like "Notion", are you not worried about lock-in due to complex files/data structures?

My understanding is that Obsidian has these features and more with plugins and such, but, yeah, it’s a not insignificant amount of work to setup.

You’re entirely correct that there are two (well four) different concepts in play.
But I feel addressing the first without addressing the second is dangerous in our current social context.
Too many of us are naturally inclined to ignore the political/moral implications of our consumption.
That said, I understand that truly ethical consumption is nearly impossible within the existing system and that people did not choose to be trapped in this system.

the one where ross says a slur

It was Brad Pitt’s character in a Thanksgiving episode, but Ross, as member of the “I hate Rachel” club help spread the rumour in high school to stop jocks dating her.
I’d argue their intent was malicious, but not outside the norms for 80’s high school kids.

[fr > en] What does « voué à l’échec » mean?
Reply in thread
Short answer: yes.
Long, absolutely superfluous, answer:
Échec = Failure
Voué is the past participle of vouer which can mean to bless/offer to god or, in our case, to vow or solemnly promise.
So I guess a poetic translation would be like “Betrothed to failure.”
PS: I originally forgot to mention, but vouer mostly archaic. You’ll likely only encounter it as part of that expression.

I actually had to look it up myself. That is a very French (nationality) expression and I’m French Canadian…

Married people, do you have a wedding ring? Do you always wear it?
Yes and yes.
It was important to me when we got the bands that they not be particularly ornate. So they’re plain bands and don’t interfere with the vast majority of activities.

Board game suggestions for Marvel/comic fans?
The Unmatched Game System is on a lot of top lists recently and they have a set of Marvel-themed sets, with more planned I believe:
Personally, I love the game. I've had good experiences with gamers and non-gamers alike. I was originally concerned that the Marvel expansions would be subpar, relying on the IP, but, honestly, they have some of my favourite character mechanics.
