Tipping
Reply in thread
Sure, but there are already news reports of servers complaining that all the people visiting aren't tipping for the World Cup. Trying to call it "our culture". Sure they should be paid normally, but, that's also something that's been said for at least the last 2 decades (and probably far longer). If they (servers) are going to keep pushing for tips, businesses keep pushing for tips, and people keep tipping...

The creator of Ultima is reportedly reclaiming the series' rights back from EA, and it could happen as soon as next year
If he got ahold of it and worked with someone like Larian, I'd have hope. But the last thing he was working on, was an NFT MMO. The last game he worked on "Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues" has... mixed reviews on Steam.
I loved UO back in the day. But, things have changed since then and we have far more options in terms of games. A lot of games back in the day, had a lot of tedious mechanics that just weren't fun.

A trillionaire and richest man in the world and still plays the biggest victim
Reply in thread
I don't wonder if it's because he's bought and paid for so many "yes-men" around him, surrounded by sycophants when he sees people talk poorly about him, it just doesn't line up with his day to day world view he bought. I doubt a single engineer who works for him has ever told him no, or that what he's doing is dumb.

MAGA arguments
The fun thing is, we know Trump wouldn't do anything to help someone, anyone, in a burning building.
There was a wealthy, elderly man who hit his head at Mar-a-Lago some years back. Trump noted he frantically looked for someone to clean up the blood because he was worried about the marble. And then the next day, was still bitching about the blood and how the marble looked different.
He's not going into any burning building for anyone. No matter age, no matter wealth, that man is a coward. Always has been, always will be. Their post should be "Imagine if Trump didn't dodge the draft..." because they'd have to imply he wasn't already a spineless coward 60 years ago.

Apple to raise prices as AI boom pushes up chip costs

They're not 90%, yet... But just raise the prices and pass the blame has been in fashion pretty hard for the last 6 years.

I mean.. being "unmanly" in private has to be better than looking like a fool in public right? (Granted, maybe par for the course with him...)
And no one around him, said "Hey, your ties fucked up man".

AI needs to stop
I hated it when everything became 'smart'.
Now everything has 'AI'.
Nothing was smart. And that's not AI.
Everything costs more, everything has a stupid app that gets abandoned, IoT backend that's on life support the moment it was turned on. Subscriptions everywhere! Everything is built with lower quality, lower standards.

Fully working 270€ Nest Dropcam will no longer be supported.

Not only are they dropping support for it and unless someone figures out how to hack you just throw it away. But don't worry, they won't automatically cancel your subscription.... that function keeps working.

The SssniperWolf is the biggest 'reaction' channel on YouTube. I.e. steal other people's videos, giving no credit, and not being transformative. You see a ton of these, and every last one is 100% worthless. She constantly goes for the 8 minute marker so she can run more ads. It's all stolen content, nothing given back to the real creators.
Jack, had been making videos about this, calling out SssniperWolf specifically (the biggest offender currently). Helping people get their videos removed from hers. He's done this for years, SssniperWolf is just the latest. Example, many years ago the big offender (though one could argue actually had some effort put in...) =3 with RayWilliamJohnson.
So, this week, SssniperWolf decided to track down where Jack lives, then made a video post showing his address, doxxing him and his wife. Now she's playing ignorant and innocent, pretending she doesn't even know what doxxing is. Doxxing has in the past led to swatting which has led to people dying.

Pedophiles Don't Deserve Plea Deals
So story time.
Back near the 2016 election, with the news covering Clinton Vs. Trump, a douchebag I worked with... a former(?) military guy... often talked about how he and a few military buddies of his had stockpiles of guns and ammo and he knew folks in the military yet. And would say something to the effect "if she wins, well sometimes things happen to planes" implying he or one of his military buddies was going to assassinate Clinton if she won. I told a military friend of mine who said, crap like that gets said all the time an nothing is ever done about it.
Fun fact, said douchebag got arrested by the police for soliciting what he thought was a minor. Eat shit Phil.

My opinion on Bone conduction earphones
I'm partial deaf... These let me hear music in a way I never could. I remember being in a quiet place and listened to an audio sample... Hearing an instrument on my bad side was like listening to it for the first time. Hearing in stereo is just wild when you have only heard in mono your whole life

PC speed gains erased by modern software
Massive amounts of telemetry data and nearly every app these days just being a web app just chews through your hardware. We use Teams at work and it's just god awful. Hell, even steam is a problem. Even having your friends list open can cause a loss to your fps in some games.

Pokemon Company "having conversations" about how to ensure game quality with regular releases
Words are cheap.
I'll believe it when I see it. The last time I personally believe they last put any effort into their games was X/Y. And only because they went from pixel to polys.
The story has been crap for a while. Even gen 1 has a more compelling story. The bad guys have been laughably stupid, and your rival... Your rival is an overly clingy person who desperately wants to be your best friend. The mechanics haven't budged in forever. So much so a goldfish can accidentally win. Every game is more about that games mechanic then building the franchise or gameplay. And a gimmicks are half baked, propped up just to sell but never follow through on. How many pokémon actually got mega evolutions? Or Z-moves, or Dynamaxing and Gigantamaxing. I mean, I quit shield like maybe a few weeks after it came out and I have most of them because... It was just a temporary gimmick to slap on the box to try to sell it.
But beyond just a bare bones mechanics that is the game...
Scarlett and violet run terribly. And I know a lot of people kept trying to blame the switch hardware because god forbid you blame pokémon. But it's not like it was just Scarlet and violet, sword and shield also ran pretty terribly not as bad but still bad. And they look like upscaled PS1 games. Mainstream pokémon games are just an example of putting in minimum effort while riding nostalgia and cartoon tie-in.
I hope when the next game gets announced, no one pre-orders. I know that won't happen because people are afraid that somehow they're going to run out of digital copies... But I can dream. I hope everyone waits until reviews come out. Because I want to remind you Nintendo doesn't do returns.

Lemmy devs are considering making all votes public - have your say
I think it's a bad idea. It's just going to start harassment and witch hunts when someone gets a downvote they don't like. Stalking is going to be a thing, people are going to aggregate all the votes you've done to make assumptions about you to then bully you. Once public, sources outside Lemmy will start gathering and cross referencing data about you.
In the US, when you vote, the vote is private to protect the person. Making votes public will only empower those that would abuse it. It very well could end Lemmy due to massive bulling, harassment, and the decline of activity.
