Titanic tourist sub goes missing sparking search
Trapped in a sub amongst the wreckage of the Titanic is nightmare fuel. I don't think I would have even came up with that on my own, I thought they only send robotic subs down that far.

The guy in this CBS video points out how shitty the sub "seems." Dude drives the thing with a Madcatz controller!

DeSantis says he would eliminate four federal agencies if elected president

He's polling worse than fucking RFK jr, he stands no chance. YoUr'Re AlL JuSt SiTtInG tHeRe! We're more than a year away from the general election, which he will never make it to because there are months of primaries before where Trump will assuredly win.

YouTube removes video of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Jordan Peterson for vaccine misinformation
Reply in thread
Last I heard he was actually polling higher than DeSantis is among republicans. He's a Kennedy so that's going to get him so following alone. RFK Jr has actually done some incredible environmental law work that has earned him some fans. Anti-vax rhetoric was originally a hippie left-wing movement so he's got that going for him.
Personally, I think its just that people see "Jr." and assume he's a younger candidate than Biden. He's 70.

Why do we associate nuclear radiation with a green glow?
Reply in thread
Tritium glows bright green and is used in a lot of consumer products, specifically gun sights and watches. Uranium glass also glows bright green.
Maybe people think radioactive things glow green because... they often do glow green.

"Debris field" found near Titanic in search for missing sub, U.S. Coast Guard says

The thing is that if they cheap out on one area then you have to think "what else did they skimp on?" Like if they're that careless about what you can see you should be terrified of what you can't.
And it'd be one thing if we were all just laughing at some tech bro fulfilling his wacky dream and using some odd parts, its a totally different conversation now that we know the sub imploded. The guy probably cut every corner possible and if those people with him had said "hey, this sub uses shitty consumer grade parts, I'm out" they would be alive still.

The reasons were less tangible before. Taking away popular apps will have a much bigger impact than some subreddit drama.

"We're shocked that Joe Rogan would do this" - people who watched Joe Rogan do this to everyone else
Reply in thread
There's definitely a divide in his fans. There are the old Opie & Anthony people who mostly just listened for comedy. The pandemic changed a lot, Rogan started with his vaccine stuff and that attracted a lot of MAGA types.
Comedy in general has taken a right-wing shift. During the COVID lockdowns touring comedians could only perform in areas that didn't have extreme restrictions, now comedians like Bill Burr and Tom Segura are incredibly popular with conservatives. I saw Bill a couple of years ago and he was making jokes about about conservatives and a large section of the crowd was unironically agreeing with his dumb caricatures.

Oregon ends its 72-year ban on self-service gasoline - Autoblog
Reply in thread
For real! I understand it takes a few minutes longer but it's sooooo nice not having to get out of the car.
I am severely biased though, I drive a VW Golf diesel and Oregon allows drivers to pump their own diesel fuel. If the attendant takes more than two seconds to service me I just do it myself.

Prediction: Starfield is going to a massive blunder and people are going to be unhappy
Reply in thread
It could be a problem with modern console's dynamic resolution. Most console games don't run close to 4k outside of menus and low action areas. That might break Starfield so they just lock it at 30 fps with a static resolution.

Military Base on Fire in Moscow Region
Reply in thread
Russia is a wild place. Its obviously huge and filled with many different ethic groups in isolated regions. There are 80+ "states"/ territories and they vary greatly in their association with the Federation. A soldier conscripted from Dagestan or Chechnya probably doesn't identify as a Russian first.
