DeSantis says he would eliminate four federal agencies if elected president

Florida's Republican governor said he would seek to abolish the departments of Education, Commerce and Energy, as well as the IRS.

"If Congress will work with me on doing that, we'll be able to reduce the size and scope of government," he added. "If Congress won't go that far, I'm going to use those agencies to push back against woke ideology and against the leftism that we see creeping into all institutions of American life."

DeSantis is telling everyone that he's going to destroy the United States, and you're all just sitting there.

155

Laughing at Desantis’ ignorance or crying because republican voters are just as ignorant and eat that shit up.

Or my favorite… alternating between the two

Training and prepping. Historically, there's only been one way to stop fascist conservatism, and it's not something we are allowed to talk openly about until we're doing it.

Did the 6th of January insurrectionists do the right thing, given they believed they were fighting against an authoritarian government? Or should they have accepted the result of the democratic process even though they disagreed with it?

3
kbin.social

So when Hitler got voted in, the moral choice was to respect the democratic process and the completely legal murder of 12 million people. Got it

10

I agree in the event of a genocidal government, you throw them out, but obviously there needs to be a very high bar and a lot of safeguards to prevent partisan misuse. A losing Republican could claim a winning Democrat wants to conduct a genocide against unborn babies or something and the Jan6 insurrectionists would feel they were justified because of it.

What are the most damning pieces of evidence that Desantis will conduct a genocide if elected?

Should the 2016 election result have been overturned?

2

Making sure that all of the subhuman republicans around you are as uncomfortable as humanly possible. They live among us and far too many people tolerate them.

8
lemm.ee

Not much can be done as of yet. The election season will really kick off in January, and short of hiring a hit squad, marching around with signs and getting screamed at/assaulted by rednecks doesn't really seem too effective. What would you propose?

26

Do the Florida sewer and septic sucking service workers have a union? Might be able to convince them to use their, ah “waste” from yet another school’s clogged septic tanks to, uh “fertilize” desantis’ yard.

7

He's polling worse than fucking RFK jr, he stands no chance. YoUr'Re AlL JuSt SiTtInG tHeRe! We're more than a year away from the general election, which he will never make it to because there are months of primaries before where Trump will assuredly win.

18

Man, I remember in 2015 when there was "no way trump could possibly win the primaries, just look at the polls" and then "there's no way trump can win the general, just look at the polls."

1

I love comments like this for the blatant lack of self-awareness that you're doing exactly what everyone else is.

While somehow finding a way to feel like you're better than.

16

He's polling a distant 2nd to trump believe it or not. Twice impeached, twice indicted traitorous trump is polling highest among R in their primary.

reminds me of reagan wanting to give DoE the axe until he figured out they have the nukes lol

26

I wonder if you asked him which departments oversee that if he wouldn't be able to answer, akin to Rick Perry forgetting what departments he would get rid of...

4

Not to mention Commerce regulates international trade and enforces sanctions. Most Federal agencies do far more than most people realize.

2

Im too tired to give a witty comeback.

DeSantis is a fascist bitch

same. boring af. heard about some weird business. anti books is what i heard. Sorry, i am pro books.

8

I’m definitely pro library. Public libraries are awesome.

Ours has a living- seed bank of heirloom veggies, 3d printers, they do community events- including a Mongolian acrobatic circus (Friday-),sewing/quilting stuff. Oh and they have a lot of books … and that’s just off the top of my head.

"If Congress won't go that far, I'm going to use those agencies to push back against woke ideology and against the leftism that we see creeping into all institutions of American life."

He keep saying shit like this and just once I would like him to explain HOW. WHAT POLICY? What, Ron, will you do that will "push back against leftism"? Tell me what you plan to enact.

HOW. WHAT POLICY? What, Ron, will you do that will "push back against leftism"?

Being mean to trans and gay people. That's the policy.

28

But that's my point. I want him to say that. I want him to explain his actual policy in uncoded terms.

12

Don’t forget black people. He was busy scrubbing away black history in Florida.

6
kbin.social

The government having money to operate is A WOKE LIBERAL AGENDA!!!

10

Infrastructure spending? THAT'S A REAL LIBRUL IDEA YOU HAVE THERE. THEM BRIDGES SHOULD PULL THEMSELVES UP BY THE BOOTSTRAPS AND PAY FOR THEIR OWN REPAIRS.

1
kbin.social

Irs. Married filing jointly is only available for male female couples.

Education is an easy one because we already saw what he wants to do with floridas system. Basically erase history and ban books.

5

I have a guess he also wants to copy Hungary's education system, which is not only barely functioning due to a total lack of replenishment of retired teachers, but also horribly whitewash Hungarian history.

Think the "states rights" thing was bad? Get ready to the "we never did X, yet we got punished for it" method of teaching history.

6
Invalidreply
kbin.social

It's a threat. He is saying if congress does not get rid of federal agencies he is going to use Executive Orders to try to force policy he knows will piss people off. I don't think the policy really matters at this point.

4
iAmTheTotreply
kbin.social

It does though. Policy should be the only thing that matters. We need to force our politicians to talk about their actual plans, the actions they will actually take, the policies they will enforce.

4
Invalidreply
kbin.social

Let me rephrase. He is saying "Get rid of these agencies or I'm going to fuck you with all of the power they give me."

My point is that the details of how he fucks you is not as important as the fact that he is going to.

2
iAmTheTotreply
kbin.social

We fundamentally disagree my friend. I know what you're saying and I disagree. The how is important. I want him, and all politicians, to be pressed on telling Americans how they're going to do these things. Tell Americans in no uncertain terms how their policies will impact them.

2

I want him, and all politicians, to be pressed on telling Americans how they're going to do these things. Tell Americans in no uncertain terms how their policies will impact them.

I 100% agree with you there.

I'm just concerned about getting distracted by the "or else" part of his statement when his real intention is getting rid of the agencies.

1

If Republicans cared about policy, Hillary Clinton would have won 2016 in a landslide.

This is just the same shit Trump pulled. Scream about culture war "issues" and claim you're going to solve societal ills without detailing how. Promising you're going to fix people's problems by blaming the bureaucracy or minority communities is easy, coming up with solutions that actually work is hard (and boring to boot).

1
kbin.social

OMFG what a fucking bozo. So what he's proposing (among other very dumb things...literally) is an energy infrastructure like Texas. That'll go over real well.

24
Talarainereply
kbin.social

Texas would try to convince the average resident that 95 degrees in your house IS room temperature if they could get away with it.

12
goryramsyreply
kbin.social

"But if my room is that temperature, therefore that temperature is room temperature!"

edit: fixed markup

5

Funny enough I thought that's what room temperature was until I looked it up just now.

Colloquially, room temperature is a range of air temperatures that most people prefer for indoor settings. It feels comfortable to a person when they are wearing typical indoor clothing. Human comfort can extend beyond this range depending on humidity, air circulation and other factors. Food or beverages may be served at room temperature, meaning neither heated nor cooled.

1
13zeroreply

It’s worse than that. The DoE’s main job is overseeing nuclear materials (not just nuclear power plants, but the entire nuclear weapon stockpile).

7
kbin.social

Do I wish for a sane republicans or not. Doesn’t matter because one doesn’t seem to exist.

21

Never thought I’d miss McCain. At least he paid attention to reasoned arguments and tried a few himself.

7

I don't understand the end game here. I understand corporations trying to get more control, but you have less money and power if you're just ruling over ashes.

4
kbin.social

He's trying to out Trump Trump. You could say he's trumping Trump. All in hopes he can steal away enough wacko votes to win.

11

But he can't, and he won't be able to. There is only one Donald Trump and you can't easily replicate his appeal.

2
kbin.social

@kuontom During Rick Perry's short-lived presidential run, he said he wanted to eliminate 3 agencies but then forgot which ones they were. This is on the same level of stupidity

15

@HandsHurtLoL Yes that is right. Perry was appointed to DOE, the agency he wanted to abolish. Tillerson was installed at State so that he could dismantle it, which he did. All part of the Bannon "burn it down" theory of Government

@kuontom

8

Nothing says "Small government" like banning drag shows, banning books, banning certain subjects from being taught in college (CRT and black history), telling women what they can and cannot do with their own bodies, going after Disney because they opposed your anti gay bills, etc....

13
kbin.social

this anti-IRS position is not going away. my mom hates the IRS and feels victimized, (because she hasn't figured out her taxes)

The IRS owes my mom and most broke people a simple accounting,

10
kbin.social

It's too bad the Republicans keep voting to take away the IRS budget to allow them to pay your mom. Oh well, Republicans are essentially telling her and people that are owed money to go fuck themselves.

16
iAmTheTotreply
kbin.social

Or taking lobbying money from companies like HR Block to prevent changes to how taxes are done - ie, like a lot of the rest of the world where they send you a "does this look right?" report and you tick yes or no.

15

IIRC it's H&R Block and TurboTax that have given tons of cash to politicians to ensure the tax code is complicated, and that e-filing remains in their hands.

I remember there used to be a day where you could e-file 1040 long forms through the IRS without TurboTax or H&R Block. That ship sailed over 20 years ago.

3

No they cut back the IRS so the can't put resources into complicated audits on rich people.

4
kbin.social

He... does know what the IRS is, right? The way the federal government gets money. What, is he going to expect the treasury to print more money?

9

My guess (assuming he has any sort of plan at all)? Tax farming, Roman style.

Private tax collection companies bid for government contracts based on how much money they think they can extract from the populace. Any amount they manage to collect above that they keep as profit.

7

Ron DeKlantis, not even hiding how much of a fascist fuck he is

though considering many of those agencies aid in politicians' ill-gotten wealth, that isnt going to go far

9
kbin.social

But why? What's wrong with the department of energy? We'd no longer be able to subsidize energy creation, we'd literally be paying 20x more for power for no reason. And these power agencies would have no reason to operate power grids or maintain them. The bill would default back to the US, because no one could afford electricity anymore.

And what's with the threat? How does someone weaponize the IRS against wokeness? How?! Is an IRS agent going to throw an excel spreadsheet at me if I wear a rainbow? What a moron thing to say.

8

Eliminate tax benefits for non male/female couples. He didn’t say that, but that would be a way.

7
lemm.ee

What is he talking about? Department of Energy? They do all our nukes bro...

7

Maybe he's shifting to a platform based on disarmament.. 🤔 /s

1
kbin.social

He wants to make America into Gilead, waiting for him to announce he intends to create the department of Christianity.

Asked how he would replace the existing tax structure, DeSantis said he has “supported all of the single-rate proposals," referring to a flat tax.

A flat tax, a.k.a. taxing the people who can least afford it rather than the people who can most easily afford it. Cartoon villain shit.

6
kbin.social

I don't troll. I was 100% serious about that post. And if it pisses off any of you subhuman leftists, too bad. This isn't Reddit. I won't be censored here.

-7

if I had the chance to jump into an alternate timeline where the United States stayed a Christian Theocratic Republic, I would. You Demonrats are the most unsufferable collection of Savages in the entire multiverse. And one day, the last of you will finally die and this country can become great again.

@Craynak_Zero a song for you

Why don't you take your abhorrent chistofascism somewhere it's wanted? Because it's not here. That's some projection, given that the ideology that's dying is yours. Just look at the demographic shift away from religious absurdity that's taking place in most developed countries. I look forward to seeing it in the dustbin of history with other irrational, hateful belief systems.

2

then the global economy collapses

That's what they want. They got theirs, so fuck everyone else.

4

Congress would have to grant him Presidential Reorganization Authority to do what he's promising. The last president to be granted that was Reagan.

DeSantis is a facist fool with the personality of wet paper. He should never hold public office again.

3

I mean there is an argument to burning it all down and starting over but this ain't it lmao.

1
kbin.social

Before everyone starts jumping to conclusions I just want to start by saying Desantis is a toxic douche who I do not and will never support. Please hear me out though.

The worst thing about federal agencies is that the President can control them with Executive Orders. In other words, power granted to these agencies is power granted to whomever the President is.

Getting rid of them does mean that we lose many regulations in the short term but it gives the power back to Congress and the states (yeah I know some states are going to do stupid shit and Congress is going to sit around with their thumbs up their asses and take forever to enact policy to replace it).

Long term getting rid of federal agencies could actually help protect us should another tyrannical President be elected.

If you want an example of why executive power is dangerous just look at what Trump and Ajit Pai did to internet regulation after the FCC was given control of the internet in the name of net neutrality.

0

Yes, agencies can be misused by a president but for most, you'd still rather have them. The IRS is essential for tax revenue (the stuff that keeps the essential stuff going) and thr department of energy oversees both nuclear weapons and nuclear reactors. Both would be incredibly ineffectual if left to individual states.

4

Okay it could help, but the US need to not crumble or turn into a christofascist state first (impossible)

1

So a right wing echo chamber is what you're looking for. Exploding Heads and Voat have got you covered for your daily feed of blind hatred, vitriol and detachment from reality. Most people do not subscribe to that way of thinking (as it's backwards, reductive and harmful to society) and thus they are "everywhere". Your average online user is not a conservative.
