TIL Alice Walton (Walmart heir) killed a pedestrian in a driving accident and was never charged. She has also been arrested for DUI twice but never charged.
This happens a LOT more often than you think. I worked with a well-connected person that killed a dude while she was drunk driving. She was not in jail at any point.

Is there any way to reverse degrowth of the niche communities on Lemmy?
Anyone that was around while Reddit was growing will remember that there were few subreddits to begin with. I think fediverse needs that to happen before expanding.
I don’t know how to fix it. Maybe sub-feddits need to be pruned if they aren’t thriving. Maybe tags in titles would be more helpful until they have enough content to warrant their on category.

In your opinion, what is a thing that lived up to the hype it had or still has?
Lasers. They seem to have endless uses from playing with cats, scientific measurements, military, construction, heating, cooling, even used for space-based internet communications. There’s so many more uses that I’m not using.

Should platforms like kbin/lemmy/etc have limits to how many magazines/categories a single user can moderate?

The cost to drive on the road is probably about the same as the cost to buy one.
About 10 years ago a Chevy Malibu had a sticker price of $120k USD, which included registration for 10 years.
