Not allowed to work from home

I always refused to put work apps on my personal phone because they would make you agree to some bullshit where they could remote access your phone or potentially wipe it. So I would refuse and say they needed to provide a company phone for me if it was that important. Most companies are either ok with this or provide a phone, except for one company. This was a software company, and literally everything else about this company was a unicorn of a job. But for some reason they wanted me to have slack on my phone and also wouldn't give me a company phone. So I dug up an old phone, reset it to factory settings, and added slack to that so I could say I did it. Then I put the phone away and they never asked about it again. So I really don't know what the point of that was 🤷

Breakfast Buffet

Malcolm in the middle was always excellent for showing exaggerated examples of realistic family meals. For breakfast the kids are all eating some kind of sugary cereal and maybe some orange juice and dad is running as fast as he can to grab coffee and go burning himself in the process. Or on the occasion they make a nice weekend breakfast, the older boys grab most of the food and there's almost nothing left for Dewey. If that show could manage to come up with a multitude of family meal scenarios over the course of the show, why can't people writing movie scripts write one single semi-realistic scene? This trope bugs me just as much as hanging up without concluding the call.

Straight men, what's the weirdest thing you've been told you can't do because it's gay?

One story my husband shared with me was when he and my dad stopped into a local bar after working hard on home renovations all day. They planned to get some dinner and have some beer after a hard day's work but needed to wash their very dirty hands first. So they went back into the bathroom and washed their hands. Well apparently that was too "gay" for the owner of the bar and they went over to the bathroom and started saying things like "I don't know what you think you're doing in there" and "I just need to make sure you're not doing anything funny". So they ended up just leaving while the guy yelled at them saying they had to buy something.

A slightly different version of this concept also happened to my husband. At one point, 2 of our lady friends were talking about fashion and my husband, who is MUCH more fashionable than I am, chimed in. They proceeded to tell him that he's "not allowed to have an opinion because he's a man" which is the most double standard bullshit I've ever heard come out of any of my friends mouths. It's stuck with me for a long time now because I think it keeps me honest with myself about standards and reminds me to think about how opinions change when you flip genders.

The new prius

I have a new Prius and my parents have a Tesla. I am very happy with my Prius but my dad is always trying to make me feel like I should have bought a Tesla and I made the wrong choice. Now he's scared to visit me in the city because someone might scratch a swastika in his car. So who made the wrong choice again?

Chappell Roan Said “F**k ICE Forever” at a Concert. Homeland Security Responded

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem responded directly to a parody of her in an episode of South Park that targeted the ICE raids, as well as her personally, in August. “It’s so lazy to just constantly make fun of women for how they look,” Noem said of the episode on the Glenn Beck Program podcast, per The Guardian. “If they wanted to criticize my job, go ahead and do that. But clearly they can’t – they just pick something petty like that.”

But she's cool with all the jokes about her shooting dogs?

Imagine paying for Paramount Plus to then have missing episodes

Has anyone watched the most recent season of The Rehearsal? Nathan mentions that an episode of his previous show "Nathan for You" was taken off Paramount Plus because it had a segment where he started a fashion line where the profits would go toward holocaust education and remembrance. So even though this was a positive thing, it still brings up the holocaust and is therefore too sensitive subject to air. He then proceeds to paint Paramount Plus as literal Nazis in proceeding episodes to drive his point home. Highly recommend if you haven't seen his new show yet.

Clueless about Biology

Reply in thread

I could be wrong, but I think the original idea for the matrix was that they were using human brains for processing power and not energy. But someone in the movie making process decided people wouldn't understand that and instead went with the battery analogy.

Time to solve the housing crisis...

I agree. A lot of the trouble that Airbnb causes can be mitigated with simple regulations that we already have in place. Additionally, we should recognize that Airbnb is currently filling a void in the market that hotels aren't currently filling. There are times when people want to rent a place to stay for a full week or a month and also not have to pay to eat out every night. Airbnb allows you to rent a place that's generally cheaper for longer stays and also provides a basic kitchen including cookware and dishes. Hotels just don't have that unless you pay a premium. The only other thing they offer, which I'm on the fence about, is the ability to rent a place in close proximity or directly in a specific neighborhood or town as opposed to whatever area has a hotel to host tourists. On the one hand, that's super nice for exploring cities and doing non-touristy things. On the other hand, residents deserve some separation from tourists especially since they don't all behave. If hotels can find a way to fill these gaps, then I'd be ok with banning Airbnb. But we can also just regulate Airbnb 🤷

From what I understand, asbestos is far worse. Fiberglass causes irritation but that's about it. Asbestos, while it takes its time, will eventually cause mesothelioma and you really don't want that.

I wish sleep wasn't so appealing now.

Bruh, I'm 33 and I started playing Subnautica for the first time a few weeks ago only to realize that in the first day I accidentally played for 10 hours. You just need to find the right game for you to revitalize your interest in gaming. Whatever that game may be!
