Normally i stay away from comp albums, but some could be albums in their own right, and Gord's Gold is one of them.

I picked this up last Sunday while i was in Detroit for the 50th commemoration of the Edmund Fitzgerald (the Edmund Fitzgerald wouldn't sink for another year after this album was released so The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald does not make an appearance) and am in love with it. Canadian Railroad Trilogy is an absolute masterpiece. The album enbs and flow between love, heartbreak, and nostalgia in a the way only a master of folk rock could ever accomplish. It's a lovely, crisp fall evening here and this is making the perfect sound track while i bake cinnamon rolls.

I spent the week visiting family in Chicago and St. Louis this week and took the Amtrak for both. Had an amazing time and highly recommended taking Amtrak for shorter vacations if it is available to you.

I had a long wait between my trains yesterday so my English uncle wanted to watch the Ireland/All Blacks game while we were in Chicago. I ended up getting to Union Station about 5 minutes before my train left and sprinted to the platform, making it just in time. I was an absolute wreck and he offered me the seat next to him and gave me some ginger ale and gum when we all thought i was going to the bathroom for a stress puke. Nick wasn't actually his name, but he and his family were so kind to me last night that i just wanted to voice my appreciation.

Fortunately she only got her coat singed so no real harm was done. My apartment smelled like burnt hair all morning, but i now feel very vindicated in yelling at them everytime they jump onto the stove. In her defense, i have been out of town all week and she was very excited for her breakfast this morning,as normally it is my tortie that i am normally yelling at to not jump onto the stove. She likely has some radiation burns on her left side, but she wasn't on fire after running off and seems fine now.

Niniane was the sweetest little kitten when i got her, but became very aloof and distant when i moved apartments this spring. Now that the weather has cooled, she is as cuddly as ever, climbing on my chest and purring away whenever she can.

Not sure where else to inquire about this, but i got hime from wirk and gave my cats some shrimp temptations. I rarely ever give them treats, but i figured why not. Nini was hesitant about them at first but ate 3-4, then she started to make puke sounds and puked a bit. Only the treats and some bile came out, and she seems to have stopped.

Did she have an allergic reaction? She seems to be relatively fine now, maybe a bit sluggish. In the year that i have had her this is only the second time she has puked, and the first time was maybe a month ago.

My grandpa was from the last generation of Geordie sailors. He was an engineer for the merchant navy, hence the great uniform. They didn't like the thunder one bit this afternoon when i got home. But the thunder has stopped, the rain has let up, and we are settling in for a cozy night.

We have a lot of stray cats on my block, and i saw one that i call Boots staring at me, shaking his little white boot at me while i was having a smoke, letting me know he was hurt. I was so heartbroken and thought of my little girls, so I brought him a whole can of food. There are plenty of safe spaces around here, so hopefully he can find a place to lay low and heal.

My dad gave me a CD copy of it for my 15th birthday and i was immediately obsessed with it. I was listening to it and 2112 on the bus once a week, playing it on my stereo in my room, asking my dad if we could listen to it on road trips, all of it. I found this first edition copy alongside a first edition of Wish You Were Here up in town a couple years ago and absolutely love it. Both are in great condition and sound absolutely beautiful, and i usually only break them out for special occasions since i ball up and cry whenever i listen to either.

She had the record wrapped up for me to open, and the pack of smokes right on top. gotta say that i have the best of friends out in Cleveland. This wasn't the first time this year someone had a brand new record waiting for me when I arrived out there.

I went in with mich to specific of goals this time around, and when i finally decided to just browse and dig, i managed to find some stuff i had been looking for, mainly Switched on Bach. I hate 80's music, but absolutely love the Bangles and am excited to listen to that, and anyone who has seen my collection knows, i love me some Peter Gabriel Genesis.

I had Niniane (the tabby) for about two weeks before someone dumped Boudica, my tortie, in the lobby at the restaurant i worked at. Best i could tell, Nini was about 2-4 weeks older and they immediately became inseperable. I am so fortunate to have two cats that love each other and are so sweet and sociable with absolutely everyone. I'll watch them cycle between intense makeout sessions grooming each other, to zooming after each other acrtthe apartment, to full on WWE Smackdown events throwing each other to the floor.

It's been a hell of adventure for me this week so I wanted to wind down today and bake some granola. Step one for good baking is smoking a think doobie, and step two is putting on some classical music. My collection of classical records is still quite limited, so i reach for random Beethoven symphonies from this box set when i have listened to everything else recently.

Pastoral is one of Beethoven's lesser known symphonies as it's calm and serene melodies are overshadowed by the sheer might of his 5th symphony and euphoria of the 9th. But it's still a lovely piece especially if you live in a rural town like i do.

Just the coolest album ever! Miles's cover of Down By The River is what introduced me to this album. I don't know if I have ever listened to an album where the singer gives off such a sexy and confident vibe. An almost defiant nonchalance pervades over this album that i completely love.

I always put classical music on when i bake, and i have been doing some serious baking this weekend. I've been working on rhubarb and walnut loaves since rhubarb is growing everywhere right now.

Anyway, i picked up this box set of all of Beethoven's symphony about 6 months ago and i love it. Beethoven's 5th and 9th symphonies understandably get all the love, but Eorica is absolutely magnificent. Originally called "Napoleon", Beethoven intendit as a praise to Napoleon's military prowress and commitment to the French Revolution, but quickly changed the name and 4th movement after Napoleon declared himself Emperor of France. I've been obsessed with the Napoleonic wars for the past couple years after i started reading my dad's old Hornblower books, so i spent my afternoon baking rhubarb and thinking about Napoleon.

I have been picking up a classical record every time i visit a shop to fill out my collection. Box sets like this are great because i get hours and hours of music for maybe $20, or i can get favorites of mine such as Holst's The Planets or the 1812 Overture for a couple bucks. I am currently hoping to find the complete Nutcracker suite for when i do my Christmas cookies this year.
