The Supreme Court strikes down Biden's student-loan forgiveness plan, blocking debt relief for millions of borrowers

Reply in thread

yeah, i'm glad that there wasn't anything that could of been done under Obama...oh wait (yes it was a multi factor fuck up, but all the fuck ups were from people who were supposed to be "on our side" trying to claim power just a little longer and fucking miss me with the hand waving of there was nothing that could be done! there was!) Voting is important yes but can we stop pretending it's a fucking magic bullet? Cause it's not. Its one tiny itty bitty thing that needs to be done. Hell voting doesn't even work if you don't have any of the other stuff surrounding it. People need to get organized both at home and at work and get ready to take the fight to them through unions and strikes at the very least.

i'm so fucking sick of the answer to all of this is "go vote" when there is much more than just that needing to be done. Don't just vote, go get fucking organized with community, and fucking fight.

Biden confronts a 'pissed-off generation' of young voters who may be decisive in 2024

Reply in thread

That's the neat part, they don't most of the time. But people get this idea that "well if they are not voting Biden then they are voting trump" then go shock pikachu when the numbers of those who don't vote come out. We ignore it or blame it on the youth for being stupid and then we repeat the mistakes. Because that's easier then dealing with the cognitive dissonance

Don't overstate 1.5 degrees C threat, new IPCC head says

oh look people in the comments who are missing the fucking point. I'm honestly so sick of this shit. You either have rainbows and unicorns and "we'll just figure it out"/climate deniers to "WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH" apathetic fucks who won't do shit* because "what's the point we are all doomed anyway" which...causes the same problem as denying does.

honestly i've delt with more people who refuse to change anything because "what's the point" than I deal with outright deniers anymore.

*not sure if anyone in the comments is an apathetic "do nothing though tbf and honest. So there is my disclaimer don't @ me.

Lol its amazing people can say shit like this with a straight face after Bernie. The democratic party said "no fuck you, its us or trump take your slightly socialist dude and fuck off" and a lot of young people did. Thankfully a lot of them took their work in politics and moved it to labor organizing, but please miss me with the "young people just need to get involved" shit when it has proven that any time they do, they get slapped down by said establishment dems. Systematic problems need systematic solutions. If "go vote blue no matter what" spent just as much energy fighting against systematic barriers to voting like gerrymandering, days off, mail in ballots, etc as they did finger wagging and yelling at younger people (cause you know, that'll help) we might be somewhere different.

Don't even get me started on the fact that we need more then voting.

China's new high-speed train just set a new record as the world’s fastest — and it could travel faster than an airplane

I think we really need to start shoving the noses of Democrats on how much China is beating our ass in just about everything in regard to infrastructure and going green. Pride is about the only thing i can think of that might make the Dems do something other than the barest of bare minimums on these things and point out how the supposedly "bad" country is doing better then us might get people to think. idk anything to challenge American Exceptionalism

[Answered] Why is the consumption of Meat considered bad

Reply in thread

I'm going to piggyback off of this too since i havn't seen it mentioned as much, cows need a LOT of water. They are literally walking bathtubs (the average cow stomach is the size of a tub, i have a bachelor's in animal science and actually have seen in one ><) and this is why it baffles me when someone talks about the water need for plants or things like almond milk. It's not even comparable as far as efficiency is concerned, and honestly, plant producers have actually worked to be better at water conservation since it's important to them, but most cow production doesn't even consider it into the equation.

This is 'the end of the beginning' of the battle against inflation, economist says

"battle against inflation" what battle? I don't see us going after the corporate profit greed that is causing all of this. They use the word inflation like it's some weird mystical word that we need to go to the profits (economists) for answers for. It's corporate greed and late-stage capitalism, always has been and always will be. If little number has to always go up and can never stall or go down, you gotta start squeezing water from the stone at some point. Infinite growth is bullshit in a world that doesn't have infinite growth. Most of the companies that are charging more and more for shit are doing stock buy backs, employment cuts, etc. People need to wake up to the reality of the fact that this shit isn't some mystical mumbo jumbo, it's very straightforward, the ruling class just doesn't want you to understand it.

Any reason is good enough especially in America. There are nuances and stuff here obviously but in general, fuck your job. Unless you somehow live in an actual socialist society which many don't, your job doesnt matter and pays less then it should by design. Everytime you get out of working or do malicious compliance that is less money going to a ceo somewhere.

Kentucky cops release KKK member who pulled a loaded gun on LGBTQ protest

Reply in thread

I would strongly recomend listening to 99% invisible Freedom House episode. This has happened before. In the past we didnt have ambulances services and cops would often throw a dying person in a paddy wagon and then take them to the hospital...hopefully i don't have to explain why this is bad. When the first ambulance service was being organized the cops through a fucking fit about their "jobs being stolen". There have been a number of programs trying to take off like the Denver Star program that do similar things. They take on wellfare cases. There have also been things proposed for other types of issues that cops do. A exercise is to start thinking of cops as "murder squad". Do you need the murder squad to take care of X? Do you need them for tickets? Hell sometimes if the answer may seem yes, but the way they do things as reckless and bloody as possible has shown that it is often not effective. High speed chases down packed streets? Shoot outs they start in heavily crowded areas? A kid who shoplifted candy and surrendered and got murdered anyway? (Know one of those). We have got to deprogram ourselves in thinking we know what police do, because what we were sold is no where centered in reality.

[Answered] Why is the consumption of Meat considered bad

well lab grown meat has just recently been approved for sell. So that's a major thing. But there are a lot of plant protein resources. I'm vegetarian so I eat eggs and some milk. (I actually prefer almond milk, most of my milk consumption probably comes from why protein powder cause I can't afford the plant protein powders for weight lifting). Now as someone who actually studied nutrition in college, the confusion comes from the fact that people don't factor amino acids. As my teacher said "You don't have a protein requirement, you have an amino acid requirement" once you look at it in this way, there are ways around this that we can do, but there are shortcomings as of right now (especially socio-economic) if you cut out eggs. However, it would be pretty easy to add the missing nutrients in other foods the issue comes from good ol classic capitalism issues of "efficiency and money" shit.

Honestly, some of the biggest problems we face is just a matter of focus and funding in research. There are a lot of solutions and it's honestly amazing how far we've come despite special interest groups (oil, farming trusts, etc) have worked to stunt the growth of things, so you just have to imagine what ecological, vegan, etc tech could do if it hand the same funding and backing as these other sectors. I honestly can't wait.
