This ruling doesn't let Biden write new laws. But, he could put out an EO and then use force to enforce it. He could put one out, that then gets overruled, then he could just claim that the justice department was wrong.

I'm a little disappointed that the appropriations committee required further studies before it goes into effect. Originally it was supposed to be effective immediately, but now it doesn't start till January of 2025.

Either way, this is great news for so many people struggling with mental health conditions. Really happy to see it. I'm thinking this transition will happen a lot faster than marijuana.

The only reason I don't pirate music is because of discovery. I haven't found a good way to find new music without using a streaming service. And then, I'm already using a streaming service, so why bother.

Also, a lot of people just don't have time. I don't mean "they have a busy schedule and don't want to reschedule". I mean there is a significant preventative of the population who camper afford to take time off from work.

Many hourly employees don't have vacation time. And they can't afford to miss a single day of work. They may even be retaliated against (or at least think they will) for missing work.

America is fucked.

Also, because of the lack of time, they might not even be aware of what's happening.

I had a really great boss a while back. I was a team lead and he noticed that I'd have a hard time remembering things. Like, he'd give me 5 tasks to do, and I'd only remember 2 or 3 of them. I'd just space out, or my priorities would be fucked up. So he'd come back hours later "hey, did you do this thing yet?" "Oh, I forgot about that".

Eventually, he decided to "force" me to carry a little notebook and had me write the tasks down. He'd start talking to me about the things we needed to do and suddenly go "oh, you should write this down".

Now 10 years later, its a strong habit for me. Anytime I talk to someone at work, I bust out the notebook and just start taking notes. Then later in my office I'll consolidate the notes.

It's helped me out a ton. That boss giving me reminders and helping me to build the habit is one of the greatest skills he taught me. Thanks to him, my second marriage is much better because I can actually listen to my partner (yes, I take notes when my wife and I are talking about bills and plans and chores).

Between writing things down and having someone who would help give me reminders and feedback on my successes and failures, ive definitely grown so much more than I ever could alone.

It felt like the right way to approach the topic. AI has become so pervasive, I'm not even sure I could search for it without simultaneously using AI.

I'd book a trip on a tall ship. I found one a while back called the Bark Europa. It's one of the few ships that goes to Tristan da Cunha, the most remote civilization in the world.

Its already expensive ($10,000+) and even more expensive if you want to go to the arctic. Unfortunately, I have celiacs, so the only way I'd be able to do it, is if I paid a stupid amount of money.

For a while, I had thought "I could have been successful like him, if i had applied myself". Not music, but other ways. It had felt like he was everything I could have been.

But then his he died and I realized that I had gotten out of that world (drugs and partying). And that I was the successful one. I had a house, a job I love, a wonderful wife, etc.

I'm not rich. I'm not always happy. I regularly think about my addictions. But Im clean. I'm sober. I'm intelligent. I have a good life.

If I didn't figure out how to step away from that life, Im sure I would have OD'd. Mac's death hit me hard, because I went from "that could have been me" to "that could have been me"

I think you meant lag. But this is a good one. One of my favorite words. It seems to be used in technical settings a lot, especially for electricity. I read an article a while back that applied it to social situations I.e. social hysteresis. It applies to so many things its ridiculous.

Excelled point. I think there are some legitimate uses of AI. Especially in image processing for science related topics.

But for the most part, almost every common use is unethical. Whether it be the energy demands, (and its contributions to climate change), the theft of intellectual property, the spread of misinformation, and so much more. Overall, it's a huge net negative on society.

I remember hearing about the lawyer one. IIRC chatGPT was citing laws that didn't even exist. How do you not check what it wrote? You wouldn't blindly accept predictive word typing with your phones keyboard and autocorrect. So why would you blindly trust a fancier autocorrect?
