German government wants to let 16-year-olds vote – DW – 06/05/2023
I think it's fine in theory. However, like the other commenter mentioned, it might not be with the best intentions. Young voters, like older voters, tend to be easier to manipulate.

Let's treat eachother better; this isn't Reddit 2.0
I haven't seen anything like that, personally. I stick to my own communities and have had no issues so far. If anything it's been leagues better than reddit because it's so much smaller.

Reddit’s decline will look more like Tumblr’s than Digg’s
Tumblr is only good for extremely small and niche fandoms similarly to reddit. If I could mass exodus everyone from some of those smaller fandoms to an alternative like the fediverse I would, but most of them aren't techy (or stubborn) so it's difficult!

Tomorrow many subreddits will open up again, will you switch back to Reddit or stay on Lemmy (or use both)
Preferably staying here. We need to keep growing Lemmy.

You can have a healthy dose of both being informed and practicing self care. Being empathetic is also a good thing, actually.

This is awesome news! Thanks so much for your work overseeing the instance, I'm excited for things to come!

All that effort for nothing
They are both good. Obviously more work went into the realistic frog, but 40 hours is a stretch. It was probably more like 1-4 hours (saying as someone who's studied realism). The charming quality of the doodle frog is what made it stand out. It's smart.

That's wonderfully generous of them.
However, through this instance, the site is practically unusable at times. I want to see the community grow! The constant errors are frustrating, so I hope it doesn't detract anyone. I just wish there was more I could do. </3

Reddit says it’s ‘not acceptable’ for communities to go NSFW in protest
Their app being inaccessible for the blind was 'not acceptable'. They can go shove it.

It's solely dependent on the person and their experiences. I know I personally aged a lot from 16 to 18, but some people mature a little faster, some a little slower. Some not at all.
I think 18 is a decent starting cap, but for some people 16 is their 18, and for some it's their 14 or even 13. So it's hard to say.
The manipulation comment is based on my own experiences with teens I've known, so it's subject to bias.

I gotcha. I think currently, you'd only get banned if they found out (which they can't currently). If the app ever becomes more invasive client side, I'm certain it would cause a ban wave (and maybe a small riot) but for now, it's not that risky.
