OneUI 8 effectively bricked my Fold

I can't use my phone with Samsung's newest update. I get a (super slow) welcome screen with animations that takes ages. Then unresponsive buttons to skip their Samsung account screen. Who designs these things at Samsung?? Then accept their """"Advanced AI"""" I don't care about. Then I'm sent back to the welcome screen where I can stare at their terrible crossfade for a few seconds.

Does Samsung hire QA people? Do they have any competent designers?

The whole flow is annoying enough without getting sent back to start every time.

I was trying to use the Samsung keyboard and it started saying letters that I touched out loud. It wasn't talkback (turned off and disabled). When I switch to gboard it goes away.

It happened once before but went away I think when I restarted but now it's full time and persistent across restarts. I guess I'm going to have to use gboard which I don't prefer.

Does anyone else know about this that has an answer other than it's TalkBack. Because it's not.

What is the driving app for SAMSUNG?

I have owned a S24 for a while now, and quite recently (i.e a couple of days) this notification popped up.

  • Driving app is running Tap to exit driving app.

And no matter how many times I tap on it to exit the supposed "Driving App", the notification always reappears a couple of seconds to minutes later.

My Device is:

S24

One UI Version: 7.0

Android Version: 15

45w Charging - what you might need to get SFC2.0 on s25u

So I've been seeing and reading a tonne of conflicting stuff about 45w Charging and sfc2.0 especially for the s25u. Some say 5a cable is no longer required even.

I went out and bought a bunch of 3rd party brand chargers, all of which are supposed to support sfc2.0, namely:

  • Anker 735 65w Ganprime
  • Anker 313 Ace2 45w
  • Ugreen Nexode 65W
  • Ugreen 100W USB C Charger, Nexode 4 Ports Charging Station

And my personal conclusion is:

  • 65w (or under) chargers need 5a cable to get sfc2.0
  • 100w chargers can use any cable, including the one that came in box to get sfc2.0

Just FYI if anyone is looking for charger/cable combo to get sfc2.0. 5a cables, I believe any cable marketing itself as 100w or above should be 5a capable. E.g. I got this generic cable off Amazon: LISEN USB C to USB C Cable 1M 1 Pack 240W and it's fine.

Noting that even with sfc2.0, the highest watts I saw on screen with AccuBattery, however accurate that is, was 35w when my battery was 4% and kept cool so I still haven't seen that magical 45w yet, but it charged very fast. 4% to 85% took 40 mins, which is very very fast in my books. Changed the way I use the phone, virtually no battery anxiety anymore.

I noticed sfc1.0 also maxes out at 30w and not 25w as well, which makes the difference even more negligible. I would end this by saying don't feel the need to go out of your way to spend money to get sfc2.0.

What tablet would suit me best?

I have an A7 Lite and I’m just getting sick of the lag and sluggishness. I had done a lot of research prior to buying it, and was led to believe it could be optimized enough to run really nicely.

Well it turns out that any rare successful ROM replacement procedures are long gone with no live file links and not a single coherent procedure instruction. So despite it being theoretically doable, there isn’t a solid document with accompanying files available. I have spent many months looking for something that isn't obsolete, incomplete or missing accompanying files.

So… what I need is something around that size +/- a little. So like 8"-11" range. I want a long lasting battery and a decent enough CPU, RAM, GPU arrangement to handle most basic tasks such as videos, photoshop and the occasional game - without any stuttering or hanging due to latency.

Ideally, I’d really like to be able to do a custom ROM if I should so desire. This isn’t urgent but in my experience with a dozen different test cases, a slimmer ROM make a crazy improvement in performance (seriously, it's astonishing how much faster most devices perform with a slimmed ROM) . However, given I’d likely wind up going with a Samsung I’d want the S-Pen to work nicely. I really don’t like how bloated One-UI is, but it would seem I’d be stuck with it unless there are ROMs that integrate their S-Pen utilities. I actually quite like them.

So good performance but don’t need the best or even close to the best. Just not the bargain basement slug that is the Mediatek inside the A7 Lite. It’s honestly shameful.

Oh and just in case they’ve started to fuck around with this, I need a microSD slot.

Sorry for being so verbose but I wanted to be as clear about what I wanna avoid as what I am looking for.

Edit: some grammar and clarifications.
