Locked in rule

I started over at 30. New country, new field of study, new everything and although it wasn't easy (mostly because I didn't even know the language), it could be done. Now, at 40, I'm learning Japanese just for fun and to keep my mind engaged. If you think someone at 28 is too old, I hate to break it to you, but you are terribly wrong. You're too old only when you decide you are too old.

USS Lincoln wasn't resupplied because Hegseth 'hid' that Iran destroyed main U.S. base: Rohde

So... "a few shepherds with basically sticks and stones" managed to fuck royally the whole US navy? The navy of the strongest military of the world? The navy that, apparently was able to destroy anything in its path?

I mean, they were saying months ago that Iran's military was utterly destroyed and they won the war... How did they go from "we're winning the war and Iran's military is gone" to "our sailors are eating boot soles"?

Republican who backed death penalty for pedophiles faces child sex charges

The 67-year-old married father of seven

Oh... he's just a family man, don't you all see? He's a married father of seven! Maybe he did horrible things to a child (or more than one) but which married father hasn't ever molested repeatedly a minor? Which married father hasn't ever kidnapped a kid? We're all here virtue signaling him when he's just the average (republican) married father... have a little shame you all!

Insiders Say Leaked GTA 6 Build Is Running on PC, Breach Allegedly Happened at Rockstar India

Reply in thread

Half a dozen? Pffft... amateur. I just saw people buying several copies from a keyshop vendor, having paid them already under the promise that the vendor will deliver. They have paid around 63€ per game. If the games arrive, they will be rich!! Especially when rockstar finishes the allotted key batches and the bytes from the warehouses end. In a big brain move, these guys found a loophole to become the richest* scalpers on earth!

*Assuming they recieve the keys and rockstar has actually a limit on the amount of download codes they can print and a quota in the amount of bytes they can transfer from the servers and, most importantly, assuming the game actually launches and doesn't get delayed to change the ending that is probably going to be leaked soon.

Blahaj zone hacked

The feeling when a small hobby non-profit project gets hacked and the owners quickly respond to the users and say "hey, we got hacked but don't worry, your passwords are safe because they were encrypted!!"

But a damn multi-billion company gets hacked, takes months to tell the users and their answer is: "so... a few months ago, we got hacked, but it wasn't that bad so we didn't think about telling you until someone found our database for sale in a forum. Also, change your passwords, email, physical adress, bank account, credit cards and if you sent it to us, your SSN, because we didn't think it was important so it was all stored in a plain wordpad file without any encryption".

I know this must have been awful for you guys, but damn if it feels good to know that even if the fucker got access to your database, they couldn't do shit because you were competent and took measures to protect your users in a way a multi-billion company doesn't.

Men with higher IQs are less conservative, study finds

from a logical standpoint, conservatism is lacking any kind of sense or logic. I think it's safe to assume that, in order to follow blindly an idea that crumbles as soon as you critically think about it, you have to lack the ability to critically think.

What I think tho is that it's empathy what we should link to intelligence (or whatever you want to call the skill set that allows you to question and critizice everything).

Conservatism is a lack of empathy (which comes with a lack of said "intelligence").

xkcd #3214: Electric Vehicles

As an EV owner, I have recieved an interesting amount of reasons why people won't buy them:

  1. The autonomy is not real (so far it's been in my case and in any case, in italy, for how people drive, the declared consumptions are all fake because people here only drives by pressing the accelerator to the bottom)
  2. What if there's a blackout in the whole city and you can't charge your car? (The whole city, for a long time? I'd be worried about other stuff, but go on...)
  3. What if all the public plugs are occupied when you want to charge and you find yourself without battery to go to "ork tomorrow? (ALL OF THEM? At the same time? And why are you waiting to charge your car until it reaches 1% charge?)
  4. What if you come back from a long trip and have a 10% battery remaining and then you recieve an emergency call and have to leave immediately and you can't because the 50-60km you have in your battery are not enough to reach your destination? (I can get to a quick charge station and get 200km in 15mins or so? The world is not ending? And if it's THAT urgent then I should be calling an ambulance anyway, because I probably need one)
  5. I don't want an automatic car! I love changing my gear! (Thank fuck I got rid of the clutch and the gears... never been happier when I drive!)
  6. Ah... but the speed, the torque of a thermic sports car... (Dude, you can't afford a sports car, what the thell are you talking about? And even if I can't either and I have a pretty average EV, you should just press the accelerator of an EV to the bottom and see for yourself)
  7. But it's all about the feeling... the sound... (oh, I get it now... you want to "feel powerful" making everyone look at you and your noise making machine... yeah, I can't compete there, and I don't even want to anyway)
  8. But the electricity is made by burning fuel! (Most of it comes from green sources and, anyway, what the hell do you think your car run on? Water? Are you not very intelligent?)
  9. But the lithium comes from child labor!! (Says while casually using their iPhone, wearing clothes made in a third world country...)

After this, they usually proceed to make absurd claims like "I don't care, I just don't trust EVs.
