Building the soft-release enclosures is a great first step. However, the real test won’t be getting the tigers to Cambodia it will be keeping them safe once they step outside the enclosures. If Cambodia can pair this move with the same level of strict, militarized forest protection that helped India rebuild its numbers, this could be a historic conservation comeback.

I’d argue that the '99% of terrible breeders figure mostly applies to profit driven puppy mills and backyard 'fad' breeders. True preservation breeders who meticulously health test are out there, but they are constantly fighting against kennel club standards that reward extreme, unhealthy looks.
