Live updates: Trump announces sweeping tariffs

Reply in thread

The following quote from ChrisO_wiki on bsky

"@chriso-wiki.bsky.social Just figured out where these fake tariff rates come from. They didn't actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us." Just about sums it up.

Trump launches website for $5m ‘gold card’ granting US residency

It has been alleged that certain faves in the streaming and beauty bits of the internet, go on pilgrimages to the gulf states in the middle east to have certain individuals with more money than hair follicles shit into their bucal cavities, in exchange for shiny bits of metal and agitated electrons that grants them financial umbrage enough for them to show off to their fawning acolytes and disciples on the internet and return again for more bucal decorations.

There’s No Coming Back From Trump’s Tariff Disaster | America was the world’s economic anchor. Thanks to the president, it may never have that role again.

Now ask yourself what countries does this "defeat/isolationism" benefit the most. What country would wine and dine on the grave that was the USA. What countries went out of their way to ensure this bumbling idiot got elected, what countries can't this idiot talk negatively about. Welp my aluminum hat is melting gotta go buy some more from the company store.

Pete Hegseth’s Arabic tattoo stirs controversy: ‘clear symbol of Islamophobia’

Reply in thread

In Arabic there aren't such distinctions between 2 f's and an f. Kafir, Kaffir, Kafer are all transliterations with the same root k-f-r in Arabic.

The Afrikaners borrowed the word, from Kaffir which was used by Arabic and European settlers, merchants and administrators to refer to the black population since they were neither Muslims nor Christians (they were mostly animist or pagans) in Africa to mean all black non-muslims, ultimately borrowed (just as they do every symbol or words) by South African white minority settlers to derogatorily refer to black people.

How they spell it doesn't really matter. It's like N-word with an -er or an a, said by the wrong race is still racist however they spell it.

‘Harrowing': Video shows Worcester police hold girl's face on ground during ICE operation

He's probably alluding to this Reagan joke:

An American boasts, "In my country, I can walk into the Oval Office, pound the President's desk, and say, 'Mr. President, I don't like the way you're running our country."

A Soviet citizen responds, "I can do that too. I can go into the Kremlin, pound the General Secretary's desk, and say, 'Mr. General Secretary, I don't like the way President Reagan is running his country."
