I mean, after doing a genocide Cromwell declared his son his political heir... I don't disagree but it just never had a chance because British people barely knew what a republic was. They literally just had classical-inspired vibes about it.

No joke, I wrote a paper in college that sourced an Enlightenment era English writer who claimed that the English state was a monarchal republic because the citizens had more rights than the French.

Labour and Reform: destroy BBC, force them to provide cover for the establishment and then privatise it!

The pride flag is being framed more and more as some kind of big and divisive political statement, while it shouldn't be... But how do we respond to that? How does one defend against such framing?

87

You don't. You make them defend why it's divisive and why it's a political statement.

You don't engage them. Make them engage you.

Same way you deal with racist/sexist jokes. Make them explain what's funny.

Or in the case of the pride flag, make them explain why it's a bad thing? Which is when they'll say it's being forced upon them, and the woke agenda is pushed down everyone's throat and whatever.

Which is also very hard to defend against... That is, I myself find it difficult to find something to say.

It's just like ... Not though?

If they just straight up live in an alternate reality world where seeing a flag and leaving people alone to live their lives is equivalent to pushing the "woke agenda" there isn't much you can do.

You can ask how it's being forced on them but honestly they just are cowards with a victim complex who want to feel like they're being persecuted as they actually are insulated from the worst shit and are benefiting the most from our society.

So ... Yeah anyone that says woke stuff is being shoved down their throats is a moron tbh. I've had Mormons come knock on my door, never a queer person trying to convert me to ... The horrible idea of equality before the eyes of the law?

2

Yes, it's exhausting... In any case I want to hang up a pride flag outside my home soon, to at least show some solidarity. I'm afraid it might lead to vandalism, but we'll see, I guess.

The comparison with Mormons is a good one. We thankfully don't have those here, but we do have Jehovah's creeps.

Not sure between the Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses which of them is worse. They both share a lot of commonality. In that both were created by some dude to excuse their behavior and control the community (in my opinion). Obviously deeper than that and plenty of differences but both of them I find have pretty dubious history.

"what has the BBC ever done for me"

It's part of their campaign to try and beg people not to abandon the licence fee.

So, what has the BBC done for me?

Erased my culture. There.

I hate those ads with a burning passion! What has the BBC ever done?

Provided transphobes with a platform. Downplayed Israel's genocide. Provided Jimmy Savile with victims. I could go on...

I swear the BBC used to have the best comedies in the world. Monty Python, Only Fools and Horses, Fawlty Towers, BlackAdder, Red Dwarf, I could go on and on and on.

I feel like they haven't really done anything drastically funny since The Mighty Boosh, which was over 20 years ago now. Inside Number 9 was alright, but gave up its comedic undertone after the first series or so. Red Dwarf has moved to Dave, The Goes Wrong Show was good too, but that was an adapted stage show. Technically The Mighty Boosh started as a stage show too, have the BBC not done any good original adult comedies since the 90s?

I know this is a facetious tangent given everything else the BBC do, but I'm honestly surprised how little anyone seems to notice or care that arguably the biggest entertainment network in the world can't even entertain its audience any more

There is still some masterful comedy, like Taskmaster and various panel shows.

However the embraceing of the modern, counter culture and edgy things has gone down the drain as directors have boomerified and have things to lose.

The Thick of It? I would say the office but that's 25ish at this point.

My hatred for the BBC grows with each passing day. I could understand (using their twisted logic) if they were trans pride pins, given their BBC’s status as TERF island enablers, but they were a progress pride and bisexual flag.

They still haven't forgotten they lost that culture war in their eyes. After this "war on trans" they are hoping to redo the "war on gays" again

Prime Ministers change chairs

Whilst the Epstein Files flair like hemorrhoids on the derriere of whatever King is over there.

Meanwhile, The united states awaits their newest press secretary

The results could vary but I doubt it'll be anything that Trump doesn't want to Marry, or contrary.
