Could people take out their anger on the people causing rather than their peers? What kind of piece of shit do you need to be to not just ruin your peers life but also a whole movement by giving it a bad rep...

65

The people responsible for this are just there for the violence, destruction and looting. They use the legit protests as a cover. They don't care about the people or the movement

41

opportunistic assholes, the same sort of asshole that loot homes after flooding etc

18

Welcome to crab mentality. Humans are scared, dumb, fucking creatures, man.

7

I forget the exact details but in Milwaukee the cops shot a black kid and in response the community.... burned down a gas station and hair salon in their own neighborhood.

There was a clip of a woman being interviewed begging people to stop destroying their own neighborhood. Something like "go to the suburbs and burn their shit down!! We need our weaves!"

Idk. A lot of unfocused rage and anger will take itself out on the first thing it can find.

2

as we've learned in other posts these are justifiable acts of the unheard and not commie agitators who fancy a rumble and some free shit

i hope they all get the education they so passionately want

... At least we got a bad ass straight out of an anime photo out of this?

68

absolute fucking trash, jump kicking a retreating man from behind

attempted murder, lock 'em up

23

Fly kicking someone from behind, as they walk away from confrontation, is a real piece of shit move.

Funny how cops are there to smash some high schooler but not to protect poeple from looters. It's almost like they are not here to protect /s

Anarchism in lemmy posts is some utopia while praxis looks a lil bit different

23
lemmy.today

Pray tell how this has anything to do with self-determined decentralized communal organizations, or did you just ask ChatGPT “what is anarchism” before this post

Thanks for sharing your conservative reactionary take…

-4
majsterreply
lemmy.zip

Ok. Then this is what happens during the glorious revolution. After the revolution, contrary to the last X times, we will have:

self-determined decentralized communal organizations

5

In practice anarchism sets up social institutions that serve as a quasi state apparatus without the centralized power structure, believe it or not often including activities close to “policing” .

Like all political ideologies it must function in a flawed reality operated by flawed humans. I have no doubt that the belief when taken to an extreme caricature is unrealistic.

Nonetheless it serves as a direction for political organizing towards an ideal, just as liberalism or facism.

Fine if it doesn’t suit your political ideal - for me it is helpful as a guidepoint to a just society.

Please don’t just sit here feeling superior with reductive takes that are frankly biased by the powers that maintain the status quo. Unless of course your political program is “perfect” if so - enlighten me.

on a society level i’d rather the dudes store get looted than constant school shootings but i acknowledge that is selfish

on a personal level if i was him i’d want a few buddies and ARs for sure

not sure how you reconcile that as a society, maybe address the issues that caused the original problem

It’s not selfish, just idiotic. There’s no minimum violence bar we need to hit, it’s okay to be against both.

what strawman? do you even know what the word means? my whole point was wanting guns as defense and not having to deal with schools shootings?

it can’t be a strawman when it’s been my own argument from the start

there has been no other engagement by me

the rest is just you rambling

lord help you if this is normal for you

I don't want to see another gun ban because I know they don't work. I'd rather see the root causes of violence addressed. If you address poverty, unemployment, homelessness, and mental illness with robust social programs and treat them as the systemic public health issues that they are, bans are unnecessary because crime will be obsolete.

Banning guns with a law, enforced by police to whom the law does not apply, won't stop gun violence; it will further entrench the police state.

If simply having guns lead to gun violence, then other countries with higher rates of gun ownership than the US would have the same problems with gun violence.

I'd love to know what countries you think have higher rate of gun ownership than the states. Maybe look that one up?

6

the only ones close have much stricter access laws

these dudes be making up shit to justify muricas bullshit

2

Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. Your first few sentences are correct. Mental health needs to be top priority. Bullying inschools needs to be handled differently. Your never going to stop gun violence 100% but if you can stop 95% of it, you take that as a win.

At least 1 decent person trying to help him after he was attacked. The rest are just terrible.

17

Tbh the amount of bystanders astounds me, like I cannot imagine being there, seeing that guy flying kick someone with their back turned and not immediately grabbing and pummeling him.

This is coming from someone who doesnt think rioting as protest is wrong--but it's really obvious why the videogame store is being looted/vandalized instead of things that actually matter.

16

What a piece of shit. This is not speaking truth to power, this is playing right into their hands and is hurting the legitimate protestor's cause.

Burn the banks, smash the Starbucks, loot the Dior Store. But leave the small shops in peace.

If dissent is not heard, it must be felt.

Doesnt really scream small business owner.

Maybe it's a franchise, making this guy technically a small business owner? Not familiar with zing btw

14

Could be I guess. Hard to know cause they'd probably never make it public.

Though there are particular people who would refer to this as a "small business owner" and not just labeling it "looters".

4

These are the people who are endlessly blasting my country on lemmy. XD Fucking clowns

2
lemmy.world

Then they will wonder why stores never open back up and others will wonder why nothing changed. If you want to protest, sit on your ass at home and don't spend money or go to work for a week.

I don't like this idea because you end up blocking emergency services and people in emergency situations. Essentially you would be killing someone indirectly.

You can arrange to leave emergency vehicles through.

France, your looking pretty bad to people in the US. And that's a low bar to clear.

I care about a european's opinion even less. Phenomenal hypocrites.

Don't act like France is any better than the US. They're just as imperialist as the rest of them.

I find it amusing that there's a lot of sympathetic comments on this post putting a face on the consequences of these riots but on the other post showing a police car in a crowd all the comments were proud of the rioters.

I'm all for showing numbers and voicing our concerns but we're just punching sideways when there's a riot. I find it sad that people here on Lemmy side with the rioters

1
dropdripreply
lemmy.ml

I side with the rioters because rioting creates a capital cost that can not be ignored. Peaceful protests can be ignored and are ignored. Smash windows and burn buildings. After the riot capital has to respond. It's juvenile to suggest political change can happen with none of the advocates harmed. That's a fantasy. Revolutions are messy--that is the reality. I'd rather advocate and be in a messy revolution than peacefully protest as capital subjugates labour into a poverty state. Assassinate your landlord and every real-estate agent.

5
lemmy.ca

Yes, peaceful protests are easy to ignore. But surely there is a balance between "don't break anything" and "destroy a working class business".

Maybe destroy public property (the property of those that need to make the change) or the property of the ultra rich (the property of those that made the change necessary).

It's like arguing that a kid who gets bullied is justified in responding violently, but instead of lashing out at a staff member or the bully, they're beating up band kids

9

No there is not. Peaceful protests are not easy to ignore they are ignored. That's historical fact. To protest is to intimidate and produce fear of overwhelming violence. A peaceful protest is nonsensical and such a thing has become not a protest but a farce or a form of entertainment--no wonder the Americans love such things!

Protest-leaders will be directing violence to where they think it will be most effective, but these are chaotic environments and self-harm is always a result. The goal is to minimize that, not eliminate it, because it can not be done. It is collateral.

0

I'm the type that doesn't consider burning down the city I live in and destroying public property is the path to progress. France's economy is already strained and guess who'll have to pay to rebuild everything? Hint: It's not the elites

It might be cathartic to burn down your house because you don't like your landlord but it doesn't solve anything

3
lemmy.world

As, so this is the shining example of protest so many of you have been insisting that Americans must replicate over the last couple years?

Can't tell you how many times I've heard, "you need to protest like the French" on here. How righteous they are indeed.

10

Of course its not, stop pretending it is

Yeah, that's literally my point.

0

The protests stem from underfunded schools. The US tried to sell ad space on a public execution. The countries are not comparable.

Its disgraceful to see the French doing this. The US should have done something ages ago.

2

Bro what the fuck are you talking about?

This is a real video you can see with your own eyes of rioters trying to loot a small business.

This isn't some hypothetical argument on Reddit like you're used to, it's some real that actually happened.
