They're a little more than twice that where I'm at in the US ($5/lb for hass, which are about 200g avg; roughly $2.25 ea) which isn't too bad. Of course in more urban areas I expect the price will inevitably be higher.
Good and cheap is a free cookbook based on the food stamp budget of $4 per day. It’s a free pdf from many sources including the authors website if you sign up for a newsletter or something and paper copies are very inexpensive.
The food inflation isn’t evenly distributed across all groceries. I hit $6 a day with little snacks and workout oriented meals with greater caloric content and higher Q factor in a bunch of different ways.
If you want to bring down your own grocery bill and go from zero to sixty on cooking at home I can’t recommend that book highly enough. You don’t have to suffer.
E: oh yeah, the book title and premise are based on 2015 prices too.
RatX® coats the lining of a part of the rodent’s lower gut. This coating of the “fine hairs” in the lower gut, called villi, disrupts the messaging system to the rodents brain, causing it to stop drinking water. This leads to dehydration, blood thickening, kidney dysfunction, coma and eventual death. It also leads to a prcoess called "mummification", which means the body of the diseased rodent will dry out, rather than decompose normally. This means a 95% reduction in smell.
It should be noted that generally the suffering of dehydration is caused by the brain telling you you need to drink water, much like with breathing and eating. All in all it's a lot more humane than a lot of poisons.
Price of dog food really depends on the size of the dog, errr human. If you’re tall, the food budget is automatically higher. And that dog food looks wet, which is pricier than kibble. Perhaps tall people need to soak their kibble in water, to balance their budget. Short people get the privilege of eating wet food, which is tastier. Not that I’ve tried or anything.
I'd take the rat poison. It's gonna give me food poisoning, true. But at least it's honest about it. With the other "foods" you'll get food poisoning too, but they don't sell themselves as poison, so I find it dishonest and not worth of my money.
I think (modern) rat poison works by mimicking vitamin K thus inhibiting digestion of actual vitamin K. This in turn will lead to internal bleeding and therefore the rats death.
So if you eat enough of it or are small (like children) and decide not to seek a doctor to stop the symtoms it can defenetly kill you, albeit slowly and painfully.
You could however save money, since this kind of rat poison is not really biodegradable and sticks around in its victims and their predators. So just eating a dead rat would be cheaper and might have the same effect.
everyone clearly knows a family is a competitive relationship. if you help each other i will sic ICE on you! no communism allowed in my god-fearing country!
You have $3 to spend and can pick any combination of items. The items in the top row cost $5 each, the items in the middle row cost $4 each, and the items in the bottom row cost $1 each.
::: spoiler Spoiler
Since you only have $3, you can only afford to choose from items in the bottom row.

Someone hasn't seen the price of nails recently...
Or advocado
In Brazil I get a giant fresh avocado por 1us, or 3 of them for 2us.

What wild mix of units
Is it? There's only three units with a single conversion, and it's quite a commonplace one (lbs <> g)
The best way to afford life in the US is moving to Brazil?!, there's probably a bunch that have done that within the last couple of years.
In the us they are 20 for a dollar or 20 free if you buy other vegetables and fruits
They grow like crazy too so you can always just have a tree similar to lemons
See you gotta get the Costco bag of nails and meal prep your nails over a month for those long term savings
these are clearly nails scavenged from free wood on facebook
Or dog food
I get them for free at the manicure
Dog food, delicious!
RFK would complain about the lack of real dog in dog food
Truly the first human to ever look like an AI food poster parody of himself
Ah gad I can hear his voice being enthusiastic
he prefer the dogs and cats themselves.
with gravy? win/win!

That's based on 2024 prices. I'd say it's probably $8-12 / day based on food price inflation.
I'm sure it's still a good book, though

lftl
My dog would be thrilled about a three-cans-of-wet-food meal.
Pedigree for 1$ not even in your wildest dreams
Dogfood would be $3.01
It has tasty morsels so that's fair
You can get dog food for $1 a can? Please let me know where, best I can find is $3.
Worth mentioning that RatX is corn gluten meal and salt, it is harmless to humans.
How does it work to kill rats?
Uh, in a kinda fucked up way ngl:

Good to know, honestly was hoping it wasn't that bad (all things relative). At least it's not a glue trap 😅
The irony is hilarious
That avocado has 2 weeks before it's ripe
and then you've got 90 seconds until it's rotten.

It would just be straight up poisoning, and you would die
Would you die or just get really sick? I thought rat poison only works because rats can't vomit it out

So, like with a bag of salad, except the bag of salad won't tell you that it's poison.
You really should be cooking your bacon longer or at a higher temperature if its giving you food poisoning. If its crispy its safe to eat.
Now you only find out about it much later. After you’ve had apple sauce with cinnamon, and wonder why you felt so ill afterwards.
three orders of nails please. i already drank a cup of ratx
I take the salmon and remove the nails and rat poison from it.
Rice, beans, and onions have been banned from the chat
Sell my bucket of rusty nails, buy some bacon
Good one. I was stuck on 2 of the onion rings and some dog food.
That's not a bad option either
Only works once, unless you have a lot of rusty nails.
Working at the rusty nail factory is long hours but the benefits (free samples) are nice
3 onion rings
Portions that small will only be available for an additional tiny convenience fee of $2. Sorry.
If I have an avocado + rat poison and I throw it up, I get $2 back after the restocking fee, right?
Beef jerky + chicken nuggets.
$3 per person for a family of 3.
But l get your point.
You're not trying to do a socialism are you?
At the… family level?
everyone clearly knows a family is a competitive relationship. if you help each other i will sic ICE on you! no communism allowed in my god-fearing country!

Maybe in the US, but here in Denmark, beef jerky is a specialty item and costs as much by weight as instant coffee, sometimes more!
in the u.s. for common mass-market brands of each, that is also true. about the same price by weight.
dehydrators are not terribly expensive, and jerky isn't difficult to make at home.
Does Denmark use a dollar as currency?
Nope, but that's so far besides the point that it's crossed the border into Germany. Who use the Euro, in case you wonder.
That is clearly bacon.
Sorry, I don’t eat that. Easy for me to confuse.
You can definitely get 3 bullets for a dollar in case two are duds
Where can you get 3 bullets for a dollar. Maybe you can find 50 9mm rounds for $15, but you'd need to split the cost with 16 other people.
Can of dog food. A sizable blunt object to attain the rest.
nails nails nails
Guys it's a fraud the bag that says "RAT" on it does not actually contain any rats :(
I hate that this is becoming more realistic. Fuck this shit ass economy. We are getting utterly fucked.
five dollar salmon? must be pacific...
Dog food isnt that bad if tou get the right one. I hate the taste but there are actual dishes that i like less so thats a thing.
$3 is 11 loafs of bread worth
You getting scammed with the other food
Maybe, if you rob a guy with $3 and 11 loafs of bread.
Ah, yes, 11 loaves of bread per meal, a perfect and balanced diet.
You also have enough left for a candy or 2
funny while i searching for mouse traps/bait that particular brand isnt good against mice, let alone rats.
I eat keto and take warfarin, so C A/B B is actually a meal I have lol
Half a cado
Psh, easy. One fifth of a chicken nugget and two bags of rat poison.
I don't get it. Is a row or a column supposed to add up to $3?
You have $3 to spend and can pick any combination of items. The items in the top row cost $5 each, the items in the middle row cost $4 each, and the items in the bottom row cost $1 each.

Yeah that's what it seemed like. I guess I just didn't really get the joke. Maybe it's an existing format this is playing off
can't do the rat pellets either, unless you and a bunch of your buddies, who also each have three bucks for lunch, are gonna share a bag.
Only THREE chikn nuggies?!
