What social media/community, is seen as "the least toxic"?

Just wondering as i feel each platform has its pros and cons but toxic-ness seems to be everywhere? is there a way to avoid most of toxic online? or is that not possible?

Why do you say so? There are few trolls, and only a few overzealous and careless mods. It's easy to get the good and avoid the bad.

It can be a bit of a pressure cooker of poser pseudosocialists and pretentious idealistic antagonists.

Once you filter these kids out of your feed, it gets better.

I don't know if I could say Lemmy as a whole, but if you take a few seconds to block toxicity when you see it, you'll eventually have a pretty sterile environment.

It's made the experience so much better with the free tagging. A little bit of time labeling trolls in bright red makes it pretty clear that only a few are the problem. Then you find out they mod the subreddit they spam to, and ban you for down voting their posts. The trash takes itself out.

Then you find out they mod the subreddit they spam to,

The big green M never clued you in?

It doesn't display on this client on All I don't think. If I'm looking at the community then yes, but not in the aggregated feed, unless I'm doing it wrong

Give me a second to engage my telepathy to find out what client you're using...

To give a non Fediverse answer (we're awesome), of the mainstream-ish platforms I've found Bluesky very non-toxic-- perhaps, I dare say... not toxic enough? You'll get really dumb takes or sloppy AI posts without a hint of pushback.

But I'm with people in these comments, I like this place most. Call outs aren't always considerate, but at least it keeps it from being utterly stupid. Polite corrections though are a treasure. That, and Never Slop kitties.

interesting contrast of experience; I'm on a bsky with a bunch of game devs and artists, and the slop gets called out instantly.

guess it's the company you keep.

It certainly matters on who they put in your algorithm. I get more of the basic feed of political stuff and it's like... Gavin Newsom with AI abs or some stupid slop and liberal boomers going heart eyes, lol.

I wouldn't mind the artists and creators more, though. It did trickle in for a bit then uh, a few nsfw popped up unblurred and for some reason saying no to that made them all stop popping up. If I really cared though I'd probably actually follow people more, lol

do you mean this instance? lemmy? or the fediverse in general?

I was going to comment something toxic to prove you wrong, but I couldn't bring myself to do it.

I hope you have a good day!

Maybe tildes?

I haven't spent much time there, so can't be sure, but I think it has that reputation.

R/knitting was really nice on Reddit before the migration a couple years ago. Idk how it is now. But it was always so supportive and encouraging.

sdf.org is pretty low key, republic.circumlunar.space is another

I feel like every HN comment or reply is, “yes, that’s very interesting. It’s much like a project I worked on last year that does X, Y, and Z in the most amazing way and here’s a link to my project site and reasons why Y Combinator should shower me with money.”

It’s like if LinkedIn had actual forum threads.

No. Anything programming is quite toxic because it draws in people with a superiority complex

I've been on a subscription based platform with around 30k users for about a year now and I've yet to see a single insult or an obnoxious user there. Personal attacks are against the rules and they'll just kick you out without a warning. The people there are unreasonably reasonable.

I highly doubt that can be achieved on free platform except for small niche communities.

it usualy depends on the size of the comunity, like if u now go into the nomadnet and talk to people there chance is high they gona be chill cuz they just happy u found the way there.
