Trump on war in Iran: ‘Let ’em take out Los Angeles, let ’em take out San Diego’

U.S. President Donald Trump seemingly discussed the idea of foreign powers taking out California’s most populated cities while delivering a speech at a Republican rally at the Pinnacle Bank Expo in Grand Island, Nebraska Monday evening.

“With the war it’s just artificial, it’s a little bit high, it’s a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe. They could take out a city. Let ‘em take out Los Angeles. Let ‘em take out San Diego,” Trump said, drawing cheers from the crowd. “This is a very small price to pay and it’s going to be over very soon. It’s essentially almost over with.”

Every time I think my faith in humanity couldn't be shaken further, I find ways to be surprised.

It's a crowd that would actually go to a Trump rally in 2026. Don't hinge your faith in humanity on self selected bad people.

He has enough evil fucks who fully support his attacks on the US that he doesn't need a traveling circus.

We very much have a Nazi problem.

We should be tracking every person who still attends a Trump rally. They are future terrorists.

12

True, but we need to. We need to consider him human so we know exactly what we are and we have to look this shit in the face if we ever want to fix it.

7

I’m not sure why some palaver from a Republican event would affect your feelings about humanity - there’s no humanity involved.

The guy wants to be putin, and the administration demonstrated multiple times they have no issues with killing Americans.

Epstein himself wrote:

recall ive told you " i have met some very bad people " none as bad as trump. not one decent cell in his body.. so yes- dangerous

And fucking Epstein was a monster himself.

Your assumption is good for judging people we don't know, but we know him very well. During the pandemic he found a way to enrich himself. During Venezuela he bombed fishermen (never provided evidence to the accusation) so he liked innocent people only to create excuse to amass Navy in that region to do the operation. And now that dust settled all of our was to basically steal their oil.

2

Ah yes, "let them take out Los Angeles," a city that would rank as the 19th highest GDP if it was its own country. A city that alone contributes 4+% of the USA's economic output. Great strategy, Commander in Soiled Briefs.

Not to mention the absolute importance of Hollywood for the US status as the cultural hegemon of the West. Without US-centric entertainment, that status would never have materialized. In terms of propaganda power, there is no comparable place, not even NY comes close.

Yeah, during the start of COVID, I think it was either Trump himself or his chief of staff who said that COVID was a blue state thing, basically saying that it wasn't worth doing anything about as long as it was killing Democrats.

I'm sure there are other examples, but that one was famous. This is just the kind of inhuman statement that you expect from Trump.

I've seen far more Talarico signs than Paxton signs around here, so I feel like there are more productive cities to threaten. That being said, there are still far too many Paxton signs, so I get it.

Ostensibly the most powerful position in the world, says terrible things, but still sucks at doing those terrible things. That is the greatest indicator of his incompetence - he can't even break things very well. It should be no problem for him to make Iran, or most anywhere else, be in a much worse state than it is. Yes, after Venezuela had a decade or more of collapse, he made things worse. Yes, after Cuba had 60 years of sanctions, he made it worse. Yes, after Palestine went through decades of repression, he helped the guys who have been doing that for the last 30 years make it a lot worse. He should be able to do these things to objectively stable countries that just don't have the economic and military power to stand toe to toe. But Iran, which, while powerful, should have been possible to destabilize, has kept significant control of the strait. At the same time, their ability to project power around the world has been diminished.

Imagine being so incompetent you can't even break shit very well.

This idiot doesn't know where Iran is. He doesn't know the world is round. He doesn't know Mar-a-Lago is closer than California to Iran. It is literally easier to target him than it is LA.

46

Roughly 8000 miles from Tehran to LA. Roughly 7000 miles from Tehran to Orlando.

I will give the "however" of a missile to LA would pass over Russia, the North Pole, and middle of nowhere Canada. While a missile to Orlando would go over Europe and the Eastern seaboard. There might be an argument it is more likely that a missile completes the first journey due to flying over uncontested space.

32

The Iranians are not stupid enough to remove an idiot who is ruining the US military. That is how the Allies viewed Hitler, they knew who was fucking up Germany's war effort.

TRAITOR

I mean, is this how treason works historically? It's only widely accepted after the fact? Like, when you're in it and actively experiencing it most people don't acknowledge it?

That can't be it. People have been executed for treason. Why the fuck are we so bad at this?

32
lemmy.today

Isn't it illegal to incite violence against the citizens of the USA? Especially by the "potus"? In the normal run-by-the-US Constitution world, wouldn't that be considered treason?

29

Every once in a while Trump does a little treason as a treat.

2

While I'd agree with someone with any other title it's a hell of a lot harder to counter the president especially with groups based in DC since there's no state level institutions to work as a buffer. Also just shooting the president is quite hard so the violent counter barely exists.

Also he fired a lot of higher ups outright, the Smithsonian was hit particularly hard by Musk and his fuckboys. Even still a lot of the Smithsonian especially the elements based outside of DC are resisting as best as they can, sorta similar to park services. The problem is it's scattered and not talked about.

‘The most uneducated buffoon in history stands at a podium, bloated with self-importance, lips pursed like a carnival barker ready to sell turd milk to the unsuspecting. He grins a grotesque smirk stretched across his face as he scrawls his name onto a hollow decree, a sham celebration of the dismantling of knowledge itself. The Department of Education falls, not with a bang, but with wheezing verbs, suffocated under the weight of his own staggering ignorance. Surrounding him are the usual suspects: cowards in expensive suits, servile sycophants clapping like trained seals, and racist opportunistic ghouls picking clean the bones of democracy. Liars, fools, and thieves all parasites fattening themselves on the hardships of the many. They stand in rigid formation, dead-eyed and soulless, their allegiance sworn not to country, not to principle, but to power, and the dark, festering rot that clings to it. And there he is the convicted wrong, the living embodiment of septic tank spew, his voice a noxious fog of grift and grievance. He lectures the world on right and wrong, irony clawing at the walls, desperate to escape the grotesque theatre of his moral void. The stomach turns, the air curdles, and for a moment, history itself recoils watching, in horror, as the great American experiment teeters on the precipice, led by a man who couldn't spell "precipice" if his life depended on it.’

21

The great American experiment is winding down. It's been interesting to watch. TBH it didn't last nearly as long as many historical empires, oh well.

2
lemmy.zip

Well, according to some of my former Christian teachers, that’s because of of the gays.

Yes, they claim that most empires average 250 years and fall when they start normalizing open homosexuality. No I don’t believe any of that crap anymore.

A more educated look showed years ago that the US system was based too much on “gentlemen’s agreements” and lacked clear and real protections for democracy and human rights.

2

Christians are appaling. I am a reasonable man and am certain that their holy book is an absolute heap of disgusting, slavery condoning, male infant genital mutilation demanding, repellent, demented, vicious dark age mumbo jumbo. Christians should be told quite clearly that our citizens have the legal right to criticise, lampoon, ridicule and mock god and Jesus to their heart's content, in any way that they wish: that Christians have no special claim to protection from the rough and tumble of post-Enlightenment intellectual, political and social life. If they cannot live in a society in which this is the case, they should go somewhere else; they are, after all, spoilt for choice, at least in theory.

The Scotland leave vote was obviously supported by Putin.

They didn’t even have a plan for what currency they’d use. They said “uhh.. pound?” and England said “no.” Then they said “uhhh.. euro?” and Europe said “guess again.”

California would lose its biggest market, the rest of America. I don’t think Canada or Mexico would welcome California at this moment. The EU wouldn’t offer California a guest pass or whatever Canada is getting.

California leaving the US and taking its 40+ million voters would further fracture the US in particular and The West in general and not have any obvious upside.

The only way to exit the USA as a state is revolutionary war and winning that war. for CA that would require all the military bases in CA to outnumber the rest of the country AND for all the personnel on those bases to side with and fight with CA or for some other military force to capture all those bases, than bases all over the US, at that point, winning the war would be totally destroying the US government and military, meaning CA would then become the ruling body of the USA, so the necessary methods won't really meet the desired outcome, you can't stop being a state, we fought a whole war about this, you can only exit with war, and winning means becoming the governing body of the US, so if CA really wants to leave, it's gonna cost a lot of money and lives and it's never going to work out the way you want it to.

I mean... anything in the constitution can be changed with enough political willpower. Peaceful legal secession from the USA is without precedent, but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen in the future. However, it does seem unlikely in the immediate future.

1

The editing you're talking about would effectively be a brand new constitution. That will require a revolution. those can be popular and relatively low casualty, but it's not ever going to be bloodless, also CA wouldn't solve anything by being a be country, I live in CA, like most Americans, and the problem isn't being in the US as a state, the problem is a huge amount of compounding factors mostly related to corporatism and cultural problems both longstanding and new. leaving solves nothing and creates more problems.

7

First of all, California has already been declared an Iranian province as a result of Straight of Trump declaration.

California should consider rejecting US membership in protest of this... without necessarily accepting Iran's invitation.
