With Gruesome Newsom being the possible front leader of the Democrats for presidential candidates they're utterly not hiding they don't care about human rights. They'd happily walk back LGBT+ rights to stay in office at this point.

No. You're missing the point. Suppression is not what tricking you into believing voting making a difference when the trick was always to make you think that what is done to you is what you asked for. In this particular when Trump took a criminal stank of green blood of gold to do and eat this dirt work being done and nothing at all for the Jerry rig to the card "shuffler."

Get this bullshit out of here? You are the liberal in a communist space, the one that doesn't belong is you

Ah yes, removing a top comment from the thread is such a power move. It's so cool how you seem to know my political views, please tell me everything else I think.

Thin skinned cowards here.

lemmy.world

Since I was not clear the first time, your ideology is not welcome here. This is a communist space. This is a leftist space. Democrats are not left-wing, they are not leftist, they are fascists. We have a fascist in the White House because of fascist Democrats getting him elected.

Winning over one voter is much harder than convincing someone not to vote. It’s exactly the sort of strategy an effective political actor would engage in to win when faced with a deeply unpopular party.

It really gives away just how much you shitlibs go out to brunch between elections that you assume they only say this during elections

"People who held a belief in the past still hold it now? How suspicious!"

He still does. Progressives are winning more and more seats, eventually the DNC will be replaced and be useful brick by brick.

Progressives are winning more and more seats

Can't undersell the amount of progress DSA and its allies have made in the last six years.

But we're talking about half a dozen Congressional seats. A smattering of state and local races. Lots of people who are totally untested and unproven. Lots of people - like El Sayud and Mamdani - who seem more than happy to meet Zionists and bigot reactionaries halfway.

And they're squaring off against legions of ICE goons, corporate drones, and fascist billionaires fully on board with mass extermination of their opponents.

Look at Bo French down in Texas. This is a guy who is advocating a Holocaust of 100M people across the US. He's polling even with Jon Rosenthal, a Democrat who wants to maybe raise taxes on energy companies a little bit.

the DNC will be replaced

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it to happen.

Didn't the DNC largely get taken over by progressives already? Which is probably why progressives are sometimes winning primaries now: The DNC aren't ratfucking them anymore.

For those complaining that the DNC not endorsing progressives until after they won the primary -- that's what "not ratfucking the primary" looks like. The DNC is not supposed to play favorites in the primary.

It's going to take a while before there's traction in actual Congress, though, because they take longer to replace. But as soon as you have enough progressives to get actual leverage, you're going to start seeing a lot more happening.

Those progressives you cheer for still uphold the oppressive systems that keep the working class down.

The kind of massive change we'd all like to have happen doesn't come instantly - at least not without massive upheaval and destruction that would waste a LOT of lives.

Sure. Doesn't mean people can't have feelings about it though. The dems have done very little to effectively fight the GOP. Doesn't mean OP won't support them but expressing a little frustration is not undermining anything.

One of the big reason Democrats have lost is that they have this toxic impulse to label any criticism as a Russian or Republican conspiracy. There's a "speak no evil" mindset that pretends that squashing criticism actually helps. Instead it just makes people bitter. The Dems tried the "sit down and shut up" approach in 2024 over Gaza. There's nothing voters hate more than being told they have to shut up about the issues they care about. It sends a crystal-clear message:

We want your votes, not your voices. Sit down, shut up, and do what you're told. If you don't vote for us, the bad cop over there will win.

And the toxic positivity "the more you know" crap is also a trope repeated by Democrats that love losing elections.

3

"Express any criticism of party? Clearly you're an evil foreigner!"

I know, people do lie on the internet. Especially if they're trying to steer people in a certain direction.

2

Those progressives you cheer for

Make up maybe 5-10% of the party as a whole. They're not the problem

6

The accountability Democrats created after a literal attempted coup, and having the power to do something about it for four years:

We're here because of the repeated and reliable failure of Democrats. And that failure is possible because of commentors like you.

8

Buddy I think they’ve got all the help they need.

6

Interesting crap. The only truth here is if you don’t vote, you have voted for the winner. All this business about not liking a party or candidate and not voting is essentially just voting for the winner. Not very smart and just planning to roll over and take it.

4
lemmy.world

I love how a simple and obvious critique of the perpetual failure which is the Democratic party is almost routinely met with the Hey this isn't cheerleading?! retort.

6
lemmy.world

No it's not. Don't be a fucking moron.

Democrats have earned every fucking iota of critism that can be mustered and it's 💯 deservered.

What actually hurts Democrats is this unnecessary, thoughtless, cheerleader protection you offer them.

Democrats can't do better if they don't change, entirely, as a party, and guarding them from well warranted critism has done lasting and material damage to their ability to be a bulwark agaisnt fascism. You hurt Democrats chances when you dismiss critiques of them with this kind of "but Republicans bad too" shit.

As an enterpuse, Blue MAGA is largely respond for the revivL of fascism and this act you are putting on, it's central how that process functions.

3

Fresh out of the nest I suppose..

This has been a primary topic of conservation on political lemmy, and before that reddit, for years. You being new to a discussion doesn't mean the discussion is new. As a collective we've been having this discussion for a very long time. No, its not a coincidence that critiques about how objectively anti-democratic the Democratic party is often emerge around elections. There is an election, its time for critiques like that. Its also not your fucking place to decide for other people when is the right time for criticism or not. You can deal with the critique on its merits, or you can shut the fuck up. Otherwise you are doing precisely what I'm accusing you of.

No one in this thread is saying not to criticize Democrats…

No see thats exactly what's happening and its exactly what you are doing. And it spoiled the election for Democrats in '24 by allowing them to continue with an internal process which is structurally manufactured to ignore the will of the voting population.

It's not name calling if it is factually true

Best case scenario we get a dozen DSA's elected and their presence numerically forces a small measure of change. The centrists are probably insider trading off their security briefings and aren't going to do anything to stop the golden goose.

The fascists already won. Your only power now is local, as we saw in LA, Portland, Chicago, and Minneapolis earlier this year.

It couldn't possibly be the Democrats doing nothing that causes voters to be apathetic, rather than users of an obscure social media platform complaining. I mean, c'mon, we gotta be realistic!

5

I heard this so much during Biden's term of "holding Dems accountable" and "we're pushing them left".

Then Biden did this right before leaving (not even accounting for all the anti-worker shit he did before then during his time in office). Yeah we really held them accountable and pushed him left.

Waiting for justice for Trumps role in J6 from the period of J7 2020 till November 2024:

Remember how lib's were sucking off Meuller, and then Garland, and then smith while Justice lay "just around the corner". Pepperridge farms remembers.

Our problem isn't actually Republicans. Republicans are predictable and always will do the worst thing. They can be easily stopped if Democrats had the will to act. Our problem is Democrats who shield republicans from accountability, and those who protect Democrats from criticism and replacement.

9
lemmy.world

No that's not our fucking problem dude. Our problem is shitlibs and blue MAGA for a party which should have been burnt to the ground because of their inability to stop fascism back in 2016. Instead, cowardly blue maggots continue to run interference a Democratic party which continues to run interference for genocide and fascism.

It's not the facists preventing us from stopping fascism. Genuinely. It's Democratic leadership and their geriatric control of the party structure which has enabled fascism in the first place. Nothing of the current moment is possible with our Democrats and how theyve governed in the past decade. And nothing of their governence is possible without apologists like you .

4

I don't really give a fuck what you think because I've been in this game much longer than you. I've seen how the narratives have shifted and how things have gone from the retconned narrative you liberals try to push, to the generalized recognition even among ficking boomers that actually Democrats are also the fucking problem. 16 years ago, 12 years ago, 8 years ago, hell even 2 years ago, your narrative was what "most Democrats" believed.

But things have changed. The majority of likely Democrat voters recognize that the Democrats are just as in favor of fascism as Republicans. And as such mainstream liberalism has effectively no motion. You lost this battle for narrative when you said the exact same fucking thing in 2016, and 2024 only for your team to hand the keys to the fascists. So I'm not worried because no one fucking believes you any more. We know Democrats are just as much the problem as Republicans.

Third time's the charm right? They'll totally actually get rid of him this time unlike the previous times they wasted time and money doing it.
