With all the contaminated food headlines. I feel like I'm playing a game of minesweeper whenever I go shopping.

It's really just increased media scrutiny. There are similar food recalls constantly and as someone who at least skims every one I haven't noticed a significant uptick in frequency or severity.

Screwworm is an actual problem caused by their actions. Additionally, all the inevitable recalls of 'raw' food are more significant with them actively boosting it. Neither of those shifts the safety of groceries, however.

theres also significantly less inspectors, since msot of them were fired. only when it gets too severe, like people getting sick or dying is when they "suddenly" reported.

Most recalls were already packaging issues (product A in B's package, causing allergen issues) or physical debris, both of which are customer-reported.

Most of the day-to-day monitoring of plant output is self-testing, which doesn't change overnight. It will slip as people get lazy, but that takes time.

I worry that cuts will actually reduce recalls. Most bacterial recalls come from the government tracing what sick people ate.

Our backyard vegetable garden has gone from concept to 3 dozen plants in the last month.

Yea I have vegetable Fort Knox but I tried expanding to outside of that and it…predictably failed.

Get some barn cats? Or make a decoy garden, or dump a gallon of peanuts somewhere nearby so they don't bother with your vegetables

How do you accidentally get lead in your food? What were you trying to do, that required lead and cinnamon to be in close proximity?

This point it's just become a game of bingo.

4

No, the spice companies literally add adulterants like lead chromate into ground spices like cinnamon and turmeric. It's purposefully added to the products, look it up.

Yeah I cooked up some mahimahi and both my partner and I got this. Its like an allergic reaction because its basically a massive dose of histamines.

Not to brag, but when I'M involved, it's always heavy bag work 😉

Because I have crippling elephantiasis of the scrotum. 😎

How did the tuna get a toxin that is so so close to being what trump and his brethren are "Scam bro toxin"

8

apparently scrombo food poisoning comes from spoiled fish, so the fish was likely spoiling before it hit the stores, so they produce a high histadine, a precursor to histamine, so it would cause an "allergic-like reaction"

I’m pretty sure it’s called photoshopping images so you can make a meme.

4

There is no reason Rapeublicans should be in charge of going to the gas station to pick up snacks. Let alone an entire country.

There are likely programs that organize images by the most common colors, similar to the ones that let you create a collage image with a whole bunch of tiny images

Off the top of my head, such a program could probably achieve this by

  1. For each saved RFK image, calculate the average red green and blue values
  2. Calculate the average red green and blue values for the food image
  3. Look for the closest RFK image

Those images don't look like AI to me, but rather photos taken under different lighting.

Or just photoshop the images so the meme makes sense.

12

Yes, although I suspect this is one of those cases where converting from RGB to HSL (Hue, Saturation, Lightness) before doing the comparison is much better.

You'd want the hue to match rather precisely, whereas saturation and lightness can be adjusted as needed afterwards.

"Please color correct this photo of RFK Jr. to have a similar palette to this cheese."

Or "find photos of RFK that match the colors of this photo"

19

Seems like AI could do it efficiently enough for how frequently they posted these images. Dataset of RFK photos, data set of food images.
