This is just slavery. Fuck the USA. What a nightmare to live in
Yay Capitalism! /s
had a close friend try to defend 6 sick days a year as "generous"
lmao.
What is wrong with some people? Was he never sick? Does he not know sickness is a real thing? Jeez.
unfortunately i see it way too often in this country, eventually you get deep enough to become unable to reject the absurdity, as it would mean acknowledging your own status as a slave
Makes sense. Cognitive dissonance. Hard to blame as noone really wants to admit he's basically just a slave with no option.
Although there is an option. Emigration. Be abetted treated slave elsewhere. But that probably also won't come to mind if you're already adamant you're in the greatest nation already 😑
It's spreading all over the world, I hope the rest are able to stop it
Doubt that, the rest will adapt or submit. Slowly but steadily.
Slaves aren’t armed to the teeth. Stop letting these people pretend cowardice is helplessness.
Who does the 70 year old need to shoot to fix his situation?
Himself - duh. The old Hunter S Thompson retirement plan.
Americans, forever incapable of imagining solutions above the level of individual behavior (though at a certain point one suspects you’ll fall back on any talking points that allow you to avoid actually doing something).
70 will hit you faster than you think- if you want to be considered an invalid at that age, be my guest.
What an empty and pointless response. It's like you're a bot trained exclusively on smug European comments.
Dude literally made his entire account about Americans, look at his profile lmao
Would, but I already got bored and blocked him lmao
Solid decision
Fascist enablers, always REAL defensive 👍
Enjoy MAGA. You’ve earned it.
Still haven't told me who the old man needs to shoot to get good healthcare. I'm the defensive one?
Could start with another Brian Thompson.
We’re talking here about someone who has already given up. He could do nothing, or he could move the needle a bit.
You know what isn’t going to help him? Waiting for you to get off your able-bodied ass.
“Smug European” - this is cute. It’s like you don’t even clock how MAGA-adjacent you are.
This doesn't answer the very simply question of: Who does the 70 year old need to shoot to fix his situation?
What country are you from?
The one just north that’s been telling you for 30 years to get your house in order. ‘What country are you from?’ bullshit is clown-ass deflection from comfortable white liberals. We've been telling you for decades you were on this path, you refused to fix it, got belligerent, and renamed french fries in response, NEVER changed your tactics while the far right continually escalated, and now your failure is spilling across borders and becoming everybody else’s problem. You don't get to export your Nazis and then suddenly discover nationalism when somebody outside your borders points out that your self-satisfied, shitty inaction is responsible. Keep sitting on your ass, you pants-pissing coward, while 30% of your country "jokes" about annexing mine. Fuck you.
Oh the one that had a Nazi parade this week?
We have the same problem friend, i’m not fighting you. I’ll fight beside you when the time comes, fuck man I am not even 30 yet, some of those early warnings were missed because I was either sperm or not old enough
I would belay judgement of others until you get the full picture, shame on you.
I dunno what a gun would solve here for anyone? Shoot "the state"?
Charlie Kirk got pretty well “solved”
Couldn't care less for this douche, but...what did that bullet solve? one less bootlicker, but system stays the same.
Every Charlie Kirk moves the needle.
Every piece of MAGA trash needs to think twice about opening their mouth or stepping out in public.
Nah. Making Kirk into a martyr was a mistake. He has a bigger presence on the right now than he did when he was alive.
Nobody gives a shit about Kirk anymore. I'm honestly surprised how little anyone cared a week later.
More Charlie Kirks every day, please.
True. But those who own you, you cannot just shoot as you will never ever even get in their rough vicinity. And those matter, not the legions of dumb kirks.
You’re a fucking coward.
“I care deeply as long as I don’t have to risk or sacrifice anything.” Fuck off. Blocked.
That's disgusting.
Kirk was a racist asshole and we don't need to feel bad for him to say it was shitty of you to post this.
Cool. Enjoy allowing your high profile Nazis to continue to feel safe in public. You’re not part of the problem at all.
Is there some way to get you to a mental health professional, because you have post after post calling for violence against people.
Only one thing ever stopped Nazis
But keep patting yourself on the back, you absolute coward.
What are you going to do with your guns? The army and police doesn't have better guns, vehicles, high tech surveillance gear, AND the law on their side?
You can't do shit even with your guns. You can protect your family and that's what they are for.
You're making a very convincing case for pipe bombs.
This bullshit argument has been shut down every time it’s been leveled, and always results in a page full of moderator-deleted comments.
Your schtick is tired.
I haven't personally commented on this before so haven't seen that, but if moderators shut down discussions about it, I guess we stick to memes. :)
Long- and short-term disability need regulation. Companies cut funding to their own employees at times when it hurts the most while also throwing them to the health insurance vultures.
It sends the message fuck you, find your own way or die.
Why are private companies even in the loop? Where I live, the government pays disability.
Murica, the ultra rich making anything related to the welfare of others “communism”
Basically 100 years of social engineering to convince 50% of the country that any that benefits them is evil and wrong
The funny part is that the second you actually need disability coverage, the companies are all too happy to throw you over to the government for that as fast as they can.
Because they own the politicians.
It does in the US too. I’m not sure what the previous commenter is talking about with companies cutting off funds. No company I’ve ever worked for paid workers for disability time. They throw you over to the government for that at the first opportunity, though they may be involved to the extent of validating yes this person works here, etc.
The issue in the OP is the amount paid, if we actually read it. Of course all the comments are just going in the usual directions of “fuck capitalism / corporations / the USA” and sadly nothings going to change that.
I believe they are talking about company-sponsored short term and long term disability, STD and LTD. LTD commonly covers a percentage of your wages... my companies provides 60% with an upper limit.
Government provided disability you have to qualify for and requires an application process. It doesn't provide much money either, which is why companies often have LTD benefit plans a person can enroll in.
Netherlands here:
Yikes.
Another dutchie here:
Yikes. +1
y'all need any immigrates? I'd love to bike more.
No we don’t need any more ‘immigrates’.
What about immigrants?
I see you understand conservatives' opinions regarding asylum seekers.
Too old to work
cracking tune
i'll be playing that one at the folk club
cheers!
The american dream is a nightmare.
American here, this isn't even remotely the saddest story I've heard. In fact, it's a pretty happy one.
I'm not joking.
Gets to recover in an office instead of a manufacturing line or coal mine, with 3 weeks off first? Guys got it better than half the people.
The American safety net is in israel right now. These guys just don't fucking care about us. We are strategic human capital and we don't matter. And these people claim they're 'godly' . Imagine if they were satanist
I feel like american christianity has already taken the worst parts of laveyian satanism
We'd be a hell of a lot better off, considering levelheadedness and rationalism are central tenets of Satanism
This is conservatism. Conservatives (including neo-liberals) serve the billionaire class. Conservatives have ALWAYS been the foot-soldiers of the wealthy.
It is conservatives who despise unions and conservatives who violently attack and murder union members for the rich during strikes. It is conservatives who allow the rich to be immune to laws and taxes.
Conservatives are doing this to us. They cannot stop on their own. We must physically, forcibly, violently help them stop. If we do not, they will kill us all.
The boss cannot be defeated until his foot-soldiers are dead.
Wen
The Republican plan for us all.
Has the frog been boiled yet?
It's been liquified and is no longer recognized as such.
No vitals for 10 minutes doesn't make sense
Anyone without vitals for 10 minutes would he dead
They should have still had vitals with a heart attack
If CPR is keeping your blood flowing for 10 mins then you don't have vitals. CPR stops when your vitals comes back or when they pronounce you are dead-dead.
That's not the case.
Ultimately though, the part that matters is that the part you found implausible was the medical details, not that someone would go back to work shortly after a severe emergency while still concerned about their own sudden death because they can't afford to recover.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defibrillation
Defibrillators don't restart the heart, that's a common misconception. They effectively shock-reset it so that it can resume its normal beating rhythm.
You are correct, it was a lazy-ish shortcut on my part.
The sooner a defibrillator can be used to induce the hearts electrical rhythm to resume ordered behavior and allow meaningful contractions to pump blood, the better.
Even more succinctly: YELL 911 AED CPR GOGOGO
The AED can only reset electric rythyms. Not every source of not having a pulse is due to chaotic electrical rhythm, not every electrical issue has a lack of pulse. "Stopped" and "restart" are ambiguous. I would generally forgive the usage of "not working" and "make start working" from anyone less trained than an EMT.
Point at someone, name them by clothing, and tell them forcibly to call 911
Too many times people think someone else is calling 911
One thing I like about modern phones is that you can get to the emergency number from the lock screen or by hitting the power button a bunch quickly (depending on phone and settings), so it's easy for an individual to get a 911 call going and on speakerphone without delaying anything else.
Random bystanders are way too concerned about breaking ribs.
If you see me on the ground with no heartbeat, break my fucking ribs when you do that shit. If you don't hear them snap, you aren't trying hard enough.
Fun fact: people are often hesitant or uncomfortable to do effective AED and CPR on peeps with breasts because they either weren't taught about it or are too embarrassed. Get out my tits if I'm buying the farm. I'd rather my girls get exposed than fucking die.
For the curious: It's ok if you end up touching breast tissue when performing CPR. It happens, especially for those with large breasts.
When using an AED you need to expose the chest and remove/cut off the bra to get the pads placed correctly, to avoid arcing with an underwire, and to get gel on the skin under the pads.
The problem is that you may feel that way, but other people may not, and it's not always clear why someone may be passed out on the ground. There are also reasons like drugs, poverty, etc, and so if someone guesses and does upset someone, it can be a terrible situation for the person who has ripped a shirt and pushing down on someone's chest. I know I'll be downvoted for this, but laws very greatly on this most likely and I certainly don't know them. I appreciate your comment, and you're right that when in doubt people should try to do CPR, but also don't know how this can change in the real world for strangers or bystandards.
Stories like this have a habit of expanding as they're told.
That said, I had a coworker in his 50s who continued to work after having a near life ending cardiac event. He was the company CTO but couldn't afford to retire because he couldn't afford private insurance.
Died last year, after having a follow up event and spending his last few months in hospital.
He's lucky. Cause faking not not having vitals to get out of work is an instant write up and automatic termination.
This man has likely been a part of the work force for almost SIXTY YEARS.
still not enough
I had a colleague who went into a diabetic shock at work. Passed out, due to other related things, his retina disconnected. They had him back in two weeks, and framed him for stealing cash from the register rather than cover the treatment to recover. Gotta love corporate America.
Had another buddy, and three others conveniently murdered the night before a Lyft Union contract was up for negotiation in my home city. Needless to say, negotiations were conveniently cancelled, and the union disbanded in following days, suddenly lacking four of the main officers.
Just saying, if you think you're costing the corporations too much, none of us are, and they'll pay to make sure you don't.
Indentured servitude for the ability to exist.
This sums up capitalism, i.e. for-profit institution in general.
I don't know where the guy in the post is from. When I started a job with disability benefits (not sure if they were from the company or the state), they emphasized that we needed to look at the tax / take-home implications for if we were ever on disability.
If we had our disability insurance payment taken out of our paycheck before taxes were paid from our paycheck, then we would also owe taxes on any payments we got while we were on disability. If we paid taxes first and then paid for our disability insurance, then any payments would be tax-free.
Thing was, after taxes and deductions from our regular paycheck, we only got about 80% of the money we'd earned. And disability paid 80% of our regular paycheck. So if you paid for disability after paying taxes, you would still have about the same amount of income (though being disabled would bring in a bunch of new expenses). But if you paid for disability before paying taxes, then disability would pay 80% of your regular paycheck, and then it would be taxed - meaning you'd only be getting about 65% of your usual income.
I know it's not like that everywhere, and many places don't even have disability anymore. But if you're getting disability insurance deducted from your paycheck, it's worth checking the tax/income implications if you ever need to claim it.
Let’s not complicate our two-minutes hate against the US with details. We’re all slaves here, don’t you know? Oops excuse me I have to go a billionaire is here to fuck ne in the ass with a rake.
It was international news when China proposed raising it's maximum retirement age to 63.
I was told that this proved only Capitalism could guarantee a good retirement.
They meant having capital
Lhand ov the Fee!
This is pretty much what I'm looking at if I get hurt at work. At best I can get 60% of my normal take home, or if I pay like 50-100+/mo more, I can get a whole 6.67% more! Totally worth it! /s
Some places on this earth are horrible and Im pretty sure if reincarnation is real, we are all going to experience this shit (or have before).
I call BS. He's a Boomer. He must be wealthy. /S
He's eligible for both the full amount of SS and/or SS disability. He's likely not exploring all options and should talk to a social worker.
Ie, we aren't getting the full story here.
It's possible he still has a mortgage, or is in debt or any hundreds of reasons why the tiny amount of SS isn't enough to survive on for him.
This is my biggest fear, people aren't buying their first home as early as they used to. Imagine you don't buy your first home till 40, and you get a 30yr mortgage. You're still paying it well past standard retirement age.
That's the great thing: they keep raising the retirement age. Soon, I'll be able to buy a house at 45 with a 50-year mortgage, literally work until I'm dead, and let the bank take the house because I still owe $150k.
This is pretty much how it works. Paid employment is modern days slavery. They pay you just enough for a living wage and forces you to consume more all the time. And you just try to keeping up appearances like all your neighbors do. And finally you die in doing that.
Makes me wonder why we bother.
Because we don’t believe life could be different. Centuries of propaganda has made us what we are today. And we are proud of it.
That was also always the plan. When Social Security was initially established with a retirement age of 65, the life expectancy of an American was 63.
It was never meant to be a national retirement plan. It was a social safety net meant to keep people who couldn't work due to injury or age from dying homeless on the streets where people could see them.
Then we started living longer and pensions started going away and it became the primary retirement plan for millions of people who started living 20 years longer than the system had planned for.
And the educated, healthy people who live forever and collect the most in payments due to their higher wages tend to be people who didn't start contributing until their mid-20s after finishing college. So for the majority of their lives they don't contribute, but they take the most out of the system.
It's fundamentally broken as designed.
enrolls 300 people per year. someone old who only had a heart attack ain't getting it
You all can group up and change things. That does mean living a very different life than what you probably planned, but maybe one with more meaning than social media and video games.
You think fascism can't exist without social media and video games? What are you, a boomer?
How did you managed to conjured that response?
The old work until you croak. The US healthcare, income distribution and labor laws all suck shit.

if I ever get a job again this will be me.
Fuck that. Dont tell people to check on you to see if you are dead at work. Let yourself fester and let it be a memorable moment and bigger cleanup when they find you the next day.
What if he wants to live though? That’s probably why he’s asking… so he can continue living
Literally says to make sure he isn't dead.
Exactly. Say that to that other user with the same name.
Taking out your anger on people who have no responsibility is childish.
That's happening pretty much everywhere in the corporate.
Heart attacks or people cannot afford to retire?
People not being able to retire, even not able to survive on the income they get. Heart attack is a consequence of lifestyle that people have to live these days. Many people simply don't feel enough, that sense of not being enough and being replaceable often leads to a decline in mental and physical health.
thats why we need uhc
What a short term outlook. If he dies on the job insurance pays out triple!

Crossing my fingers that my wife and my insurance agent are plotting to kill me on a train, so they can afford the life they deserve.
But I thought all the Boomers were rich landlords?
Schrodinger's boomer
We don’t know anything about these guy. I imagine that he keeps working to afford his lavish lifestyle with a huge home, pool, multiple vehicles and helicopters while doing fundraising events every week.
I would love to get embroiled in some masturbation at work scandal to push them Republican husky fucks off the deep end to rotundo their vision of full-fupa-fap-fest,or as we call it over Anon Hill 34, 4foipstukke (biowoman alt tag: 4 foidstukke), but no seriously, I am with those sad hoshi fuckers from bunker 9 and I do ass to mouth for tree fiddy an ounce. Don't overdo it, dude. You're trying too hard. Just slide into the dipsy doodle of the rat race, ferretface.
Not always, but often, people can save more and retire <60yo if they learn about it and plan ahead. Some people's identity is too tied to work and worry about losing that and don't want to leave. Of course companies should pay workers more and have benefits like in better countries, including healthcare for all, so boss can't use that leverage. Healthy lifestyle reduces common health issues too, cook at home healthy, mindfulness and be active. It all works together, simple living, improve skills for more income, side work, and DIY saves money, live healthier, keep adding FIRE skills for more autonomy, better health and retirement fund. Mustachians unite!
My grandpa is ~10 years retired after working as a pharmacist his whole career. He's calling my parents every month, asking for help with his rent and groceries because he can't afford both at once with his retirement and social security payments.
Mind you, my grandmother did taxes and financials for small businesses, so it's not like my grandparents weren't set up. But my grandma's health went down, hospital bills ate all of their savings, and now that she's passed, my grandpa can't afford anything.
It's not so black and white as "save more and just be healthy". Not even close
See the other reply and that's really sad I hope he will be ok.
Read the room
Unfortunately, the gap between what people make, what people need to survive on ramen noodles and a closet for living in, and what people need to be able to save up for retirement, not just now, but when they are ready for retirement when inflation has vastly devalued their savings, is a very big gap. Only the most successful and lucky individuals get to retire at a reasonable age. The rest are work until they die poor. This was not true for many of the oldest generation, who had more buying power out of the money they made, but true for almost everyone that's first entered the workforce after the 1990s is facing this problem.
This is not true in all places and often people "feel like" things are worse than they are, but yes some really are stuck, and more right-wing policies will make it worse. I worked since I was 14 but didn't start career until 2000. I spent within what I made, while friends didn't and they had financial issues. I worked hard at various jobs and had student loans that I paid off, paid rent, food, car, all of it. I fully agree that companies need to pay more, better benefits and universal healthcare, and we will only get those for all, if enough politicians are elected at once to pass big reforms. It sucks if it's really impossible to cut costs and learn new ways that MMM and others do, and it's not just higher incomes if you look into it. There is a post for jobs over $50k w/o degree, which is old so incomes should be more than that now. Ask how can you make this work rather than why it's impossible, you can do it! It is sad that some get stuck in a hole to start and keep digging in deeper, when they could learn how to do better. What a shitty take.
This isn’t a common experience from what I’ve seen.
Just give it a few more years 😐
Goodness I hope not. Maybe I’m in a bubble.
You are closer to being this guy than being a millionaire
Hehe, you don’t know that 😉
But I see your point. I’m just being a smart ass.
With no ageism intended, I see folks who are old enough that I wish they were retired still working way too often. Particularly at grocery stores (I think they're partially working there to get the employee discount on groceries).
I think some do it because they don't know what else to do with their time honestly. A lot of older folks basically defined their entire existence by their job. Then they retire and have "nothing to do". They don't do or have any hobbies.
Like man, I would love to retire, even better if I could now, while I am young-ish. I could spend the days playing video games, or go walk all the local trails looking for birds and bugs, or just go to all the random little small town festivals in a 100 miles radius listening to all the random live music.
There is just, a lot in the world out there. But too many have no idea, or they have been hammered all their life that anything not work is frivolous, or they worked themselves to death and just can't get around anymore.
It's sad.
Nosey gocery store employee who asks questions about peoples personal lives!
Its usually this tbh. the amount of "I'm bored of retirement and I get extra cash to spoil the grandkids." is pretty dang high. they usually only work like 20ish hours a week.
the ones who work a full 40 are doing it for healthcare or they need the money.
You reminded me of a funny anecdote.
There is this older guy sometimes working the produce area in Kroger, and I was buying produce, he was stocking.
And he asks "You doing ok?" In this... Tone of voice, that had me wondering for a moment if I was. Like, why would you ask that way, in that tone, if I was not stroking out or bleeding from some place I am unaware of.
I have heard him ask other people this way too while shopping. It's just his tone but it actually kind of freaked me out.
Yesterday I ordered a pizza from dominos. The delivery driver took almost 5 minutes just to park and grab the pizza from his back seat. I was wondering wtf was going on, so I opened the door and saw him hobbling toward my steps with a cane. The man was at least 70. I quickly ran to get my wallet and tipped him whatever cash I had on hand. The pizza didn't taste as good as it usually did.
Now wait for the media to frame this as a hero story rather than focusing on the broken system that requires him to work until his last breathe.
Damn that’s sad. Maybe I am in a bubble idk
I was talking to someone the other day that got scammed out of their retirement savings.
Yes, he was an idiot for falling for it so hard.
However, he's going to be working late into his retirement years.
My support worker had half a million in the bank, in cash. She got scammed out of it and now struggles every day trying to afford rent and food :(
Yeah. I just can't imagine the grief.
You know, if you were the guy in this post, struggling away at your desk at 72 years old, knowing that you're essentially paying every day for a mistake you made 40 years ago.
I think it would be something like, say a bad car accident that left you disabled, or maybe one of your passengers died.
That’s super tragic holy moly. I wonder how we can protect these folks and help them.
Yeah I wonder too.
On one hand people should be restricted from screwing themselves so bad, but on the other hand people need to be free to make their own mistakes.
Tell me you're not labour class without telling me you're not labour class.
Some people are sheep. When you have literally nothing to lose, why not lash out on these mistreating you (and us).
Go ahead, you do it.
Why not us, like a a massive group of people. As much as I hate MAGA and what they were pursuing on Jan 6, at least they didn't just wait around when they were dumb enough to believe a pathological lying narcissist about their liberties being violated. We know our liberties are being violated and we're a bunch of cowards. I don't expect we'll win against fascism if we can't even put up a fight.
Now that I can get behind... not literally though, I can't fight the US fight, am too busy fighting the AfD over here in Germany.
Edit: That reminds me, for all my German comrades reading this: https://pruef-demos.de/baden-wuerttemberg/
This dunce: "what a sheep for not trying to murder his boss"
not saying his boss is abusing him.
This dunce: "He's gotta go hunt someone, for revenge, right?"
Because if everyone did that, we would live in anarchy, and not in the good way. There is a lot of value in social peace even for those who are on the brink of society, because those are the first to get shafted. Also even a 72 y.o. can have people depending on them, so you don't know if he "didn't have something to lose" - he might have a wife at home which depends on him because of health issues, or he might have children that need support regardless of age.
Although if i ever find myself in a situation where i whatever i can lose isn't worth much anymore, i will probably find an interesting way to go out. From my current standpoint, that day is pretty far away.
Baa Ram Ewe
