Because context is fun

Rich family were batteling themselves to have the highest tour because after a 2 years old without enough sleep the biggest baby are the richs

Rich families were battling each other to build the tallest tower; turns out even grown adults act like overtired two-year-olds when it comes to having the biggest one.

Obviously they said a rich family had a 2 year old that wouldn't stop crying so they made towers really high to get away from the noise because they themselves are babies.

Sounds like the US president on 9/11 after hearing the towers fell so his hotel moved up the list.

Such a classy man.

Just imagine how rock hard their collective calves and hamstrings must have been during that time

Holy shit I've been in that tower and I didn't even know. TBF, we showed up in August, and apparently 95% of the town just shuts down for vacation. Still managed to find some mind-blowing tortellini.

Europe holidays in August. This should be converted to common knowledge and spread all around the world

It absolutely does not lol, most employers in most countries let you choose when to take your vacations.

Looks like these are winners then. A whole society fighting to be remembered and there was actually a winner. Wild.

Is there meant to be a link to a source, here? I’d really like to read about this. Wikipedia article linked by another comment does not mention any more towers besides the two that continue to exist today.

Holy cursed unit Batman!...

The one you're looking for is called a hectometer

17
lemmy.ca

The word you are looking for is a "hectometre".

That tower would be:

  • 0.097 kilometres tall
  • 0.97 hectometres tall
  • 9.7 decametres tall
  • 97 metres tall
  • 970 decimetres tall
  • 9700 centimetres tall
  • 97000 millimetres tall

The leaning tower of Pisa was cute. Those two are really menacing.

12th century cameras weren't very good. Too many pixels, Terrible noise reduction and lousy tonal gradation due to compression.

It's a black and white picture of a miniature model of the city, so yes, fake. I don't think we actually have any pictures of the skyline, so it's mostly guesswork.

18

It's probably an artist of the day's rendering

5

I was gonna say how it actually looks kind of like early b&w photography. It do be lookin like a claymation model tho.

Tbh I think it's a really good piece of art

4
infosec.pub

Yeah, what I expected happened was that the b/w pic was from the early days of photography (1850's) and that the most of the towers were ruined during The World Wars.

Though reading on the topic of the towers, it sounds like the populations of towers has declined much more gradually since the 13th century ish. Says to me the vast majority should have been knocked down by the time photography emerged.

Probably means the photo is fake or (as another commenter suggested) is a photo of a clay model of how the towers were described.

I thought those were towers to provide air conditioning

6

Both towers are in OP's picture. One is just a bit shorter.

I have AI as much as the next guy, but this is a drawing from 1929 by an artist named Angelo Finelli. The caption translates to: "Bologna at the time Dante stayed there"

Edit, Dammit! Hate, not have. I hate AI. Friggin' V is no where near the T. What the hell.

22

I actually love this style. It's so otherworldly. Fine work, Finelli.

Except that your statement becomes incrementally more false every day.

Sure, it’s still mostly true. Likely in the 80% range, at most. But give it another year or two of additional AI improvements, and it won’t be anymore.

Hell, even now I’ve had to start filtering videos more on the content’s behaviour - whether it is realistic or not - than any AI oopsies like sudden changes in the background.

Sounds like there will always be things you don't immediately understand and falsely attribute to AI.

You’re holding a mirror up and seeing your own reflection, there.

I work in the IT industry. I am embedded into this bullshit quite deeply. I know what to look for and can see just how pervasive it’s getting.

You thought a picture of a model was an AI interpretation of a photo from the middle ages.

So I doubt that whole-heartedly.

I can believe its amped your paranoia though.

What TF are you smoking? I never said anything of the kind.

Next time, compare the usernames of the commenters instead of making wild, unsupported accusations.

I can't tell if dropped a /s or you actually think it's meant to be passed off as a real medieval picture 😅

I think someone said it's a picture of a model city made to represent what it looked like. Not sure how true that is or if it's AI. The buildings look cartoonish though so I'm inclined to believe it's really a model city.

6

In my eyes, it's clearly a clay (or similar material) model of a city. Some of the towers taper through the middle as if they'd been sqished into shape by hand, windows and other features don't maintain a constant shape/size when in rows, and in the modern day image you can make out individual bricks in the tower while in the b/w one everything is completely smooth.

3

To my old-ass eyes I thought it was an old picture of a painting... Looking closer I could totally see it being an old picture of a model too.
