Begging your pardon, but perhaps the Italians can address your concerns.

Oh, look at Mr. Bigbucks with his fancy kerning. Poor companies can't afford such luxuries.

Atkinson Hyperlegible Mono has a zero with a reverse/Burroughs slash so it doesn't look like a capital "o" or a Nordic letter Scandinavian Ø. It also tries to clearly differentiate other similar glyphs like lowercase "L" and a capital "i", "8" and the capital "b", etc....

It's proportional sans-serif version Atkinson Hyperlegible Next unfortunately uses proportional numbers instead of tabular ones like most good sans-serifs.

Been using the Monaspice Nerd Font lately and enjoying it.

There always an xkcd. Or Simpsons episode

Where are you getting this future knowledge from, and is it worth the journey

Zooming in, they look absolutely identical to me.

42

The first one looks ever so sightly wider to me, but their shape is exactly the same otherwise and it would be impossible to notice if no one told me

21
sh.itjust.works

I feel like the first one being "rn" just because that first hump looks ever so slightly more bold than the entirety of the second "m".

lemmy.today

Whenever I see the word kerning or keming I think of Ken Jennings. I don't feel like explaining why, it's just a vague similarity and that's the direction my brain goes.

I can feel that. Everytime I see the world "CHIPOTLE" I need to say "CHIPOTLE". "CHIPOTLE".

Don't give them any more credit than they deserve, calling them a whole entire world 🌍

I always wanted to build an alternate to maven central, called pomhub.

There's a hidden war over many common typos of popular domains. Almost every misspelling of YouTube redirects to the main site. Try yootube or yputube or yoitube.com. But less common misspellings or as soon as a domain registration expires, you bet some bot will snap that up and host malware, then demand a royal's random from Google to win it back

2
discuss.tchncs.de

The yoitube one is clickable on web. It appears to link nowhere to an adblock user, unless they press F12 and see that it's a bunch of links to random domains all titled either "top sex" or "barzolar" (whatever the latter means), probably some ancient search engine manipulation: marking normal sites people paid against as NSFW; advertising actual NSFW sites people paid for.

yootube seems to be parked or something (could be fake), yptube redirects through a bunch of stuff then eventually declares me unwanted (probably because referrer turned off) and redirects me to rozetka.com.ua (they probably looked up top 10 sites per region and since I used my IP in Ukraine it directed to a Ukrainian store)

That's really interesting. I would have thought the URLs would work the same for everybody, but maybe there's some DNS strangeness going on, or even my device might be correcting the mistakes

1
Zarobireply
aussie.zone

Oooh that's sneaky. It feels illegal for a DNS provider to mess with lookup results in their own favour like that.

In an ideal world I would change it, but I can't right now.

so me - personally - I like everything about reddit content, I just dont want to consume it on reddit with ads and without normal apps.
if I can consume it on lemmy - I would be delighted and satisfied. Thats why I post shit from reddit - for people like me to get out of dodge. I want reddit burned to the ground @huppakee I will take all of their content and more, and then there will be more organic content from lemmywinks as well. thats my plan

automation is not against lemmy.world rules. im genuinely not a bot

2

no, I mean was thinking to run some kind of a reddit mirror on fedi.

tbh when I started seeing you I was a bit skeptical, but you are regularly active in the comments so you are good!

I checked this persons post history and damn, they post constantly

lemmy.world

Over 4k posts in 3 months, is at least 4,000 / 120 = 30 post per day.

9
lemmy.zip

They're almost certainly just reposting everything from reddit. Might even be a bot.

17
huppakeereply
lemmy.world

I don't mind that content getting copied here to be honest. If it's a bot I'd like to know, but as long as bots make themselves known and don't upvote anything I'm fine with it.

There are down votes and comments so not sure? Might be a bot with a human occasionally logging into the account?

4
huppakeereply
lemmy.world

And over half their posts didn't federate to your instance, interestingy enough.

1

well just looking at their profile on the home instance maybe 1/3 or more of the communities are unknown to my instance.

3
glimsereply
lemmy.world

I think it's insane that people want a bot reposting other people's complaints from a mostly-OC community. It's just ragebait at this point, no justifying it with "I needed to vent"

So thanks to this bot, we know that some people we'll never interact with are infuriated by something. Cool. Great community idea.

This place was doing fine before the spambot showed up. More content doesn't mean better content. Why must every site be a bucket to dump the same content from the last site into?

2
huppakeereply
lemmy.world

I don't mind ≠ I want something. If it is about creating a great community you have two very wonderful tools: moderation and collective action. If multiple people in this community have negative feelings about this, either collectively act (downvote this kind of content, block this kind of posters etc) or set up rules that a moderator can use. Don't do nothing yet expect everything to remain the same, that is madness.

1

Hence why I've left a lot of comments letting people know they're responding to a bot.

2

A human runs the account but they claim they're not a bot, they just have.....automated posts set up. You know. Like a bot.

3

Monospace should be mandatory, but the people who lay these out are not trained for it.

"It's just text, I can do text. Duh!"

"Duh" is right.

Are those all lowercase M's? Ya gotta mix in some R's & N's somewhere because...

Oh I see inferno.

Ok but that would be funny too if it was infemo.

I would not recommend a password that is just 7 times a * character. You gotta at least vary things up with some letters and numbers.

I'm thinking the customer said "this should be in monospace", and it was, and then the label printing got outsourced to China.

You've used mobile data to post this right after you cancelled tha WiFi contract 😅

3

I had the same problem with a font where l and I look the same. I know removing uppercase i and lowercase L will reduce the range of randomised passwords but it is that or a different font.

3

I think of the two apparent lowercase m's, I think that the first one is the actual m. The middle stem looks like it finishes marginally above the other one's
