This Casio A159 is by far the cheapest of my (mostly mechanical watches) collection, both in construction and in price. It's plastic, has a folded links bracelet, has a digital movement unchanged since the late 80s but somehow, it brings me a lot of joy these days. Maybe it's the no-nonsense functionality. Maybe it's the beloved childhood aesthetics. I love it.

I'm looking for a cheap SBC for 4k HDR local content streaming on my TV. I'm moving away from streaming "services" and towards the Caribbean seas.

What I already have

• a LG 55B9 OLED tv. It has a serviceable media player, but due to ongoing enshittification (every update is slower than the previous one, ads everywhere, basically becoming useless) it's been airgapped for the past couple of years, forcing me to transfer content on a USB drive
• an Apple TV 4K. It's amazing for streaming but absolutely useless for local HDR content. VLC is years away from HDR playback and the leading media players are stupidly expensive, I hate the subscription model and I'm not buying a 150€+ lifetime licence.

What I'm looking for

• a cheap/affordable SBC
• running Linux (obviously)
• guaranteed to play 4k HDR content from my local network.
• bonus points if it can do all this while running a general enough purpose distro for light emulation.

What are your ideas? Thanks!

WipEout 2097 was my first WipEout. Its soundtrack is etched in my memory and is, for me, the greatest videogame soundtrack ever. It defined my tastes in music, even when I strayed away from electronic towards metal. But my absolute favorite memories were on Wip3out, especially the Special Edition.

Everything about this game is perfect. It's incredibly beautiful, fluid and fast for a PS1 game. The classical physics are refined to perfection. The Designer's Republic have done their best job ever at designing the identity of this game. The soundtrack is great. The tracks are varied and a breath of fresh air after the industrial-design-fest of 2097.

It has the most content of any classic WipEout. 8 new tracks, 8 tracks remade from WipEout and WipEout 2097, 6 prototype tracks including two with a mysterious proto-"Zone" ship, all the classic teams and new ones for varied gameplay...

I fell in love again. I hadn't touched this game in almost 25 years and I love it as much, if not even more than before. I've been a lifelong WipEout fan, I've since done and enjoyed them all (except Fusion. Fuck you you ugly-ass bastard), I've spent hours on BallisticNG just to scratch that itch. But WipEout 3 Special Edition is and forever will be my love.

I didn't know it was possible for domestic use, but my stock burrs died. I just couldn't grind fine enough anymore for espresso.

Upgrading to SSP burrs was a breeze, the hardest part was the cleanup. I'm lucky to have a pretty well aligned grinder so a single shim was necessary.

The difference with the old burrs is amazing despite having barely seasoned these burrs. A lot more range is available (I'm currently grinding pretty fine at +21, while the old burrs in their prime only had around +5 to +12 of usable range). Going down to +15 is enough to choke the machine. They're a bit slower than the old ones and have a much higher pitched sound.

HU burrs are all about texture. And oh boy the espresso they create is syrupy as fuck. Taste is great too, they bring out a lot of different notes from my beans. Maybe not extreme-clarity, but still as least as good as the old ones without compromising on texture.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with the upgrade.

For those who would only want/need to upgrade their Framework 13 Classic input cover to the Pro one for the haptic trackpad, what looks would you choose?

• Silver for a stealth upgrade, monochrome all the way
• graphite for that classic XPS13 look, silver on the outside, black on the inside
• Fuck it I'm doing a full external upgrade, matte black everything

Cut shots look normal. But in the main shots, everything is weird. It looks plasticky, off, like they are AI-generated. It's unsettling and eroding my trust in a content creator i respect and enjoy.

Also, I find it quite hard as there are no native Norwegian speakers around me. I spent a year on Duolingo but stopped because fuck Duolingo and I spent a lot of time learning obscure concepts busy still can't count up to ten. I'm starting again with a couple of Anki decks. We'll see.

• Kyrö from Finland: they exclusively make rye whiskies. I already bought 3 of their 4 expressions. My favorite is Wood Smoke. Powerful smoky character from alder-smoked malts, sun dried plums and lots of character.

• Ninkasi from France: one of the oldest breweries from the Craft Beer Revival started distilling about 5 years ago with a cognac still. Lots of great finishes, my favorite is Manifesto, finished in Pineau des Charentes casks. Massive old wine and must character.
