I swear intune is a rootkit. The machine grinds to a halt, it's hogging all the CPU, the fans are blowing, but the stat counters show nothing.

But I kiss ground returning to Linux or Windows after being stuck on Mac OS.
Windows is an old comfort. I know all the shortcuts. I hate their brand, ethos, etc.
But when I am stuck using an Apple product I want to rip off my fucking skin. Fuck your command key, stop trying to be special. Your system tray is obnoxious. I hate your unified application menu bar, it makes no sense with un-maximized windows. You got rid of the single button mouse because yeah obviously that was stupid, why not get rid of the rest? Firewire? Fuck off. Those fucking charging cables. Fuck. Off.
Fuck Microsoft, but Apple don't catch enough hate. Fuck them too for their benign prison of an ecosystem.

Sorry. I get way more bent out of shape having to use macos or ios for work than I do windows. Way more. Fuck em both. I can handle powershell. I cannot handle a fucking circus of bullshit.
Every Mac I must use at work gets a Linux VM. I will not tolerate their operating systems. I don't do the same for windows at work. I tolerate it.
I feel this post in my heart and just wanted to say I support you 100%.
What I really hate about macOS (and iOS) is Apple prioritizing fancy design over functionality. Liquid Glass is just bad UI with shitty contrast, to the point where they had to dial it down before the final release to make it somewhat useable. And doing things like hiding the username field in Apple Mail so you have to enter a fail state first before it gets shown to you is absolute garbage. Apps don't have to look as clean as possible, they have to be fucking functional.
...and why are we still including .DS_Store files when zipping a directory and creating them on network drives? What is this? 2001 Windows XP with its useless Thumbs.db files? Even Microsoft has long moved on from storing thumbnails in this way.
Thumbs.db is still a thing it's just a hidden file by default.
Mac OS is just NeXTStep (i.e. UNIX) with a candy coating. It's annoyingly proprietary (especially these days, compared to the early OS X era) but it's fine for a work machine.
It vaguely looks like Unix until you start to look at the directories (which aren't standard any more), try to read the logs (which are fucking useless and look like what Windows outputs), or dig at anything beyond the shell. Then you see that they've completely scrambled the system. It's infuriating.
I once got an Apple laptop around the time they switched away from Intel chips, I lasted about four months with it before running back to KDE. I hated that thing with a passion. And don't get me started on the Apple software.
Maybe it got better since, maybe not, doesn't matter, I won't get near one of those things again.
Just a little fun fact: POSIX does not specify any standard filesystem directories in the way that the FreeDesktop Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (FHS) does for Linux and Unix-likes. MacOS remains a fully POSIX-certified Unix system.
Wasn't windows NT posix at one point?
They had a really bad POSIX subsystem that was coded by an intern, so they could say "We're compliant" and get some sweet government contracts.
NCommander made a lot of videos about it on YouTube and had to patch the hell out of it to even get the most basic programs to run.
That's well into the time that they were getting worse. They were good in the PowerPC G3/4/5 era, when they were doing things like making laptops that could have the RAM upgraded without even needing a tool. They were also trying to be taken more seriously for business, so they had stuff like the XServe and cared about scripting (putting effort into Applescript/Automator APIs for their apps) and such.
The hardware was kind of ok, it's really with the software that I had issues.
As an aside I tried to configure their email client for a friend a year or so ago and I've never seen such a convoluted piece of software. I thought accessibility was their thing, this was astoundingly Byzantine. Never seen anything like it before or since (in that class of software).
I honestly wish there was a way to consistently do something like the command key on linux, it's so nice to have desktop shortcuts not conflict with your terminal. Haiku does it as well, they use alt.
Everything just works on MacOS unlike Windows. Their Liquid Glass stuff sucks hard, but it doesn't matter if you live in the terminal.

Fortunately I use linux at work and at home for years now.
The rest of my family apparently hate themselves and use windows... I can now just use the excuse that it's too long since I've used windows and can't help.

For real. Once in a blue moon I have to use windows at work or to help a family member, I always forget just how bad it is.

I've finally made the switch about a year ago. The only thing I still need Windows for is VR, which I seldom use.
Whenever I boot into it, I always get a little nauseous thinking how this used to be the norm for me.
Same here, I only use it for VR as well (Reverb G2 support is BAD on Linux).
It's so fucking annoying when you only boot into Windows every few weeks or so, it immediately hogs my CPU pulling down updates (which often takes 20 minutes or longer).
When the Steam Frame comes out I will finally ditch this dumpsterfire completely.

But more to the point, it's a popular(-ish) meme format for when you have to go do something you hate (or end up hating) and then you're so freaking happy to be back to your comfort zone. I.e. exactly how it's used in this post. Who she is and the whole backstory of how it happened is really not important, I believe the feeling she was conveying is real, even if the act of actually kissing the ground was just a stunt for the camera.
There are better things to be angry about.
I use Windows at work. It's so shitty and pathetic.
My least favorite part is the slow pasting. I select some text to copy, press ctrl-c, then press ctrl-v and wait like 10seconds for the text to be pasted. So fucking weak.

That's definitely default behaviour, the start menu is a resource hog. I can recommend StartAllBack.
Me at the end of the day, when I finally turn off my work laptop and on my Linux desktop no application has copilot integration.
i turn on my laptop at work, go make a coffee and it's still booting and loading stuff.
Same laptop (after they gave me a new one and the option of buying the old one for really cheap) with cachyos: 30 seconds to a full kde desktop and an unblinking hdd light (including bios and bootloader 5 second delay).

Almost everyone who uses a PC uses Windows. It's hard to see that inside our Linux bubble, but it's true. Only one of my friends uses Linux. Mostly because of the very occasional problems with running games.
He uses Cachy, I use Bazzite because I want to pay the least amount of attention possible to my PC's requirements and that one sounded better.
I might be wrong about my choice, but it works fine so far and I will not change until I am absolutely pushed into it, just like I kept Windows 10 until I could not stand its bullshit.
Too mentally fried by life atm to give this stuff the proper attention. Just want to play games, edit audio, use Zoom and Discord, and not be bothered by the OS in any way.
Bazzite has absolutely done that for me better than any windows since my beloved highly tweaked Win 7, and for that I am grateful. It is a breath of fresh air.
Good point. I honestly don't know anyone who uses Windows at home anymore. Nobody in my greater family circle, certainly. A couple use Linux, but it's mostly Mac.
And a ton of iPhones. My wife is þe only Android user, and I'm on a Linux phones.
I knew a few people, who eventually completely returned to Windows.
Most of them saw Linux as a "hobby OS to tinker with", and had problems with the "trans IT specialist" stereotype. They complained every time some Linux-native application got a GUI, or the existing GUI got easier to use. Some of them jumped onto FreeBSD and similar OSes for a while even.
