Well, you know what they say about Greek soldiers. They never leave their brother's behind.

How do you separate the men from the boys on a Greek freighter?

Little known fact that Greeks invented sex. Later on Romans introduced it to women as well.

That apostrophe is doing some major lifting here.

In the scope of humanity, homophobia is a very new invention.

The conception of gender and sexuality is complicated depending on the culture. Not sure how true it is but apparently in ancient Rome, it's not considered gay if you are on top.

That's because sex was perceived specifically through a lens of power dynamics in that culture, which was not the case in several Eastern cultures at the time.

I don’t know, a country that invaded everyone has a power-dynamic kink? I’m not buying it…

Reminds me of the line, "ain't nothing gay about gettin' your dick sucked," from the second Harold and Kumar movie.

3

Yeah you still have a lot of gay bros today insisting they're not gay while they fuck dude ass but that don't make it true. Maybe it was the same back then.

1

Hmmm I doubt it, the way it varies among cultures. It's not just Christianity and Islam that gets weird about it. From what I've read it's more about sex acts that are considered taboo, like a man laying with another man, and not about some modern idea of what homosexuality is. And I believe it can be argued sometimes that we don't know if these ancient laws are about a man raping a man rather than just men having sex with men. (And if there's no victim, who's reporting it? An observer or jealous spouse?)

we're talking like 12th century BCE Assyria...

The way cultures can vary so much on what is taboo, is it that surprising that people make same sex relations taboo?

6

Because they didn't call it that. They still killed whoever got fucked.

think musks "historically accurate" grok version will tell them?

They each furiously masterbate to photos of elon that were sent back in time.

Fijn fact: Odysseus didn't need to be tied down to resist the sirens song, but he just was into bondage and roleplay.

10 years were fighting a war, most definitely with some "spoils" of war

Eventually, yes. But it took them 10 years just to breach the outer wall. They had to wait a decade before partaking in any spoils.

20

Armies travelled with large entourages which included soldiers wives, and plenty of whores for the single men.

There’s also Odysseus’s stop on Ogygia where he was railing Calypso for seven years.

5

They weren't sitting on a beach for 10 years waiting. They were pillaging the villages surrounding Troy.

Consenting spoils I hope 🫣

Or maybe some CNC stuff that'd be pretty hot actually.

In the movie, I don't specifically remember them showing that (but might be mistaken, they certainly did loot Troy), but

::: spoiler Minor spoiler if you care One witch character curses his men and turns them into pigs because she believes they would have stolen from her and had their way with her. Odysseus very specifically uses the argument that they didn't do those things to her while convincing her to change them back. So take as you will. You could interpret this as Odysseus's men not being rapists. But I don't really remember the dialogue or flashbacks super well, I might be forgetting something. All that said, even if it didn't happen on screen, I don't really think there's a specific reason to believe they didn't do it off screen based on the overall tone and theme of the movie. :::

(It's been a long time since I read the story, so it may have been different.)

I really like how Hades has introduced the stories to a lot of people. The witch is a character in Hades 2.

The Odyssey took 20 years but 10 was spent fighting at Troy where they’d have had camp followers, wives, whores and such.

Then 7 of the next 10 years were on Ogygia where Odysseus at least was fucking Calypso.

Three years is a long dry spell but probably unlikely to change the way you bat… for those who even survived very long.

22

They were already batting that direction lmao, didn't not need isolation or dry spells to partake in the pisso glendi.

Hey, I've been a decade without some love so it can be done. I'm only halfway there

My buddy in the Navy always says: 100 sailors go out, 50 couples come back.

4

Greeks been doing it. Celts been doing it. Everybody been doing it!

3

What's more likely, that all of them were ace or that some of them were homosexual?

22

You reached the end
