Kidnapping for ransom? That's not really a thing in the US. I don't think there's been a successful kidnapping like that in the US during the last quarter of a century so criminals don't try it. If someone breaks into your house and ties you up and blind folds you, they don't want a ransom.
Scary place, the US. I suppose the locals just don’t see how scary it can be to a foreigner.

Basically this is the only test that matters in your whole student career. And if you don’t do better than millions of other kids on this test, it’s easier to go to university in another country than in China. It’s technically possible to retake it but very rare.

It's bad enough that there's usually an increase in the number of suicides when the results are released, from students taking their own lives because they didn't so as well as hoped.
Sure, but why the US, there's heaps of other countries with better education systems..
University level education in the US is actually very competitive, it's everything below that that sucks.
Probably prestige. Despite the rivalry by the government, it hit different if you tell others you graduate from US college. Also they probably want to stay in US for work as well, a couple of year in college helps you adapt and have better chance.
Because before Trump started his second term, it was a better place to live.
Also it's harder normally to get into a prestigious Chinese university then a prestigious university abroad.
China is the biggest exporter in the world.
Therefore, if you study in a well known US university and gather international experience, it will increase your career prospects. Also, they want to perfect their English. It's hard for them to speak proper English, just like it's hard for us to speak proper Chinese. It's best learned by being exposed to it every day.
The other reply makes it sound like it’s for second rate students who fail a test. (Also this is probably a super expensive alternative to schools in China, given out of state and foreign tuition fees. I assume they come from money. )
So which is it?
It's both. Is it that hard to believe that the second-rate students might need something the first-rste students don't have (like English proficiency or knowledge of American industry) in order to stay competitive?
