It's especially cool when it's your coworkers during the workday and they are not answering your messages.

6

Fun fact: instead of going invisible, you can mark games as private.

They won't show up as recently played, on your profile, and other people won't see you're in-game, but at least you're not announcing to the world what you're doing.

Conversely, if you're annoyed by others, you can turn those notifications off.

4

OTOH this is how I find out about fun new single player games (my favorite type of game) since all of my friends are more unemployed than I am and find the good shit before me.

This is me 15 minutes before refunding a game due to compatibility issues on Proton.

I haven't found too many of those over the years. Lucky me I guess?

I haven’t run into one at all yet. Either proton got better before I switched, or I’m lucky.

I’ve been eternally cursed by the “it should just work”, especially in the world of Linux. For every game that launches fine with no support listed, there’s another that lists Steam Deck compatibility and I can’t even make it to the loading screen.

I’ve tried half a dozen OSs with Proton over the years at this point and every time I turn the corner after explaining my setup, someone whips around telling me my entire setup was never going to work in the first place and I should have been using this stack instead.

I’m just tired, so usually, I’ll put about 30 minutes of effort of trying random bullshit from ProtonDB before realizing my time is worth more than troubleshooting a video game.

Really? Damn, I can't remember the last time I tried launching a Steam game and it didn't work. What are you trying to play?

Most recent example was Horizon 6. 4 and 5 run without a hitch and the world looked really promising. Made it over the first crest of a hill and crashed every time. Tons of missing textures in the 7 seconds of gameplay I got to see.

I refunded it and got 007 instead and I think I’m having more fun with that than I would have with Horizon anyway.

6

Yeah horizon is a weird one I've heard for some it's completely broken and some works totally fine.

Yes. The point is more that balatro is a lot easier to run.

Except when you are trying to go NaNeInf

7

I've got this one friend and he plays Skyrim three or four times a day for less than ten minutes.

Strangest thing.

12

My friend called me out doing this with Rimworld. The mod list must grow.

10

"Alright Frank, let's get one for the kids. Turn the ball cap around and let's do another take like that."

I go invisible specifically to not annoy people while I dick around with launch options :3

You turn invisible off?

I see what my profile looks like sometimes ("last online 150 days ago") and quickly toggle it just so people don't think I cuddled a moving bus or something

47

I hear cuddling a moving bus has some nasty side effects like responsibility and haremitis.

1

I go invisible because I legit don't remember who any of my steam friends are IRL and I just don't want to delete them.

3

The pain of steam is that i love grinding at achievements to show them off to people but i don't like playing videogames with people so i don't really have anyone to see or appreciate my achievments. But then again, i'm doing it for myself 😄

I have my wife, and my brother in law that I play with. And then one guy that played space engineers with us and helped us build a big ass ship and then his friends logged on so he left us

I turned off those notifications years ago when someone was apparently messing around with a game for a few days. Was getting spammed so much lol

I set myself to invisible at all times. My friends can message me if they want to do shit but they don't need to know my status at all times. Too many motherfuckers messaging me the instant I appear online.

11

I do the same. It's nice to not broadcast what you're doing all the time

6

I wish I had some steam friends so this meme would be relatable

11
lemmy.today

At least I know I'm not that person. I don't like being stalked so I keep invisible on always.

10

I let everyone know I was logging off and not planning on dying anytime soon. I stopped playing games all the time and started doing other things. Real things with real results. I still play some really old games but its just filler for when I have nothing else to do a the moment.

0

Ive already logged off my friends list because I'm kind of embarrassed I cant get this damn game to work properly and need to restart again.

7

It's more like a domestic argument. You know they are fighting with each other and maybe trying to change things, but it's not working out. And you just don't want to get involved or reminded.

How does the Deck factor in here? Does it ping my friends I'm playing the same game every time I take it out of sleep?
