Transgender ballot initiative could require genital exams for WA secondary school students

Language in the initiative claims that kids are already required to undergo verification of their “biological sex” before they can play sports. But KUOW spoke with medical professionals and a school sports official who said otherwise. Paperwork used by medical professionals in sports physicals also shows that the initiative would be a departure from current state requirements for athletic participation.

According to the initiative, students would have several options to confirm their sex: a visual genital exam, a lab test to determine their genetic makeup, or an analysis of testosterone levels in the blood. The genital exam, which a medical professional can conduct without touching the child, would likely be the most accessible option for most kids.

or an analysis of testosterone levels in the blood

Fun fact: that’s not a sex test because cis girls also produce testosterone, sometimes at heightened levels comparable to some cis boys. That’s just how biology does.

This is being done by the IOC now. This regulation will force many women athletes whom are known to have high levels of testosterone naturally, to be forced out of women’s events.

EDIT: If you aren’t aware, the IOC announced a ban on transgender women participating in women’s events in April.

Some cis males also produce little testosterone. Look at Clavicular.

I feel like that jackass has probably rat fucked his biology with the shit he puts in his system so bad example.

5

Uhhhhhhhhhhh

If you are so against transgender folks being transgender that you're cool with a stranger confirming children's gender by taking a peek at their genitals, you are a fucking monster of a human being.

59

"Sex-testing" children in schools sounds like something you'd find in a niche pervert hentai drooled over by 4chan /pol/ board weirdos; right along with all the other infringements on bodily autonomy we've seen from this regime. We don't live in "Hell". We live in the fantasy of the formerly rightfully-ostracized.

You're telling me the party that actively wants to destroy women's rights while supporting a pedophile in office would... try to do things that pedophiles and rapists would like? Say it ain't so! /s

This is literally who you’re allowing to run your country

Uh, wouldn’t this make trans girls test as girls and trans boys test as boys?

Like, don’t tell them if so, because it’s absolutely funnier that way.

49

Sounds like some people just want to look at kid's junk. Sounds very Republican.

44
lemmy.world

The WIAA is aware of roughly 10 trans athletes out of more than 200,000 kids who compete across the state, Kesterson said.

20,000:1 RATIO, FUCKING HELL HOW WILL GIRLS SPORTS EVER OVERCOME SUCH A HUGE PROBLEM???? no choice but to MAKE SURE YOU AIN'T SMUGGLING ANY BALLS ONTO THE COURT!

I really cannot see this ever passing, at least. Laurie Jenkins would have Bob shot if this somehow passes the house & senate and he didn't veto, and it'd probably be done with Mike Brown's gun (tho I similarly cannot envision a world in which Ferguson would ever pass this. Guy's pretty decent.)

44

I really cannot see this ever passing

There are a helluva lot of things that "I cannot see happening" that the USA is actively doing right now (and over the last decade or more) .

7

This is Brian Heywood absuing the ballot initiative process again. Brian Heywood is a rich fuck who left California for Washington State because he's dumb as fuck and thought WA was further to the right. He moved his entire business here and is now using his wealth to flood the zone with shitty, fucked up, misleading, and pointless ballot initiatives in an attempt to make WA what he originally (and stupidly) thought it was.

Brian Heywood should take his dumbass to Idaho, where they're happy to bend over while he goes to town.

41

To save women from having "men" theoretically sneaking into bathrooms to see their genitals, we've now mandated that all women must allow "medical professional men" to see their genitals.

..... This is what conservatism does to your brain....

39

They call us groomers, but conservatives want to look at little kid's junk before they can play sports. Fucking gross

38

"but conservatives want to look at little kid's junk before they can play sports."

FTFY 🙂

26

Why do these perverts care so much about children's private parts?

Fucking pedos

34
lemmy.zip

They are so afraid of a man using a women's bathroom, that they will abuse as many children as possible.

32

Its almost like the goal was always to be able to abuse children easier. What with the epstein class running things and all that

13

What strikes me as curious is the fact that they somehow believe that a person would go through psychiatric evaluation, hormonal treatments, and face and genital surgeries just to be able to go into a women's bathroom. Then they'll tell you that it is not that, it is that they are afraid of men using it as a loophole to go into the women's bathroom, and somehow they think the problem isn't men.

10

more like they want to abuse children so much that they pretend to care about women's safety.

4

That's what the conservatives behind all this anti-queer stuff actually intended: they want to see and fondle kids genitals.

30

Pedophiles and rapists control the US, so this is logical next step.

29

At that point we can just say that, let’s just let the girls and boys play together so the Trump-Epstein coalition doesn’t come in to examine their genitals.

20

In a non patriarchal society. This would be great. But, unfortunately, we live in a patriarchal society and this would just result in more children being pushed out of sports because of toxic environments.

If you think kids are mean. Wait until you hear all the parents that verbally abuse kids on the field because of their "inferior" gender identity. Or the coaches that form "nonbinary" teams of all cis boys. "Our team sucks because it has too many girls".

I played on a "mixed" summer softball team as a kid in South Georgia. It was literally just for fun and had no "championship". Each game was entirely independent. Half of the already few girls quit after a few games. Little 8 year old girls crying because of shit they heard parents saying or that the other kids repeated.

This shit goes deep into our culture and society. Until that changes doing "all gender" sports is not a good idea in practice.

There are so few trans kids in our population. There are even fewer that want to play sports. The best thing to do now is let kids play on the team they want play on. And never ever ever allow these "genital inspection days".

17

If this passes as a ballot initiative in Washington State - pack it up, burn it down. This country has nothing worth trying to save.

14

And then they turn around and call US the pedophiles

That's some bullshit

3

They're going to auction off government positions for the new child genital inspecters to the highest bidders.

11
lemmy.blahaj.zone

Hey y'all, when I was starting highschool I had a doctor try to inspect my genitals and i had to tell no, they told me I needed a physical before I could play sports, I declined again because I didn't want to do sports anyway.

Can someone tell me if this was normal or if the doc was being weird?

11

For boys, the standard hernia test involves checking for testicle movement, usually during coughing. It's highly recommended for sports participation, and required in some places, because a hernia is easily preventable and especially painful.

I had to go through that in the 6th grade to play a sport (wrestling), but didn't have the wherewithal to say, "Nah, I'm good. No thanks". But I do remember that poor lady was just as uncomfortable as I was.

As a pre-pubescent, having my testicles tugged down by a kind-looking woman (who was being as professional as humanly possible)... idk, I still remember that, like we both knew it was weird. Ended up quitting anyway, cause wrestling in middle school was definitely awkward. But that physical stuck with me

And the coach getting reprimanded for showering with us after practice... I kinda wish I was joking. Dodged a bullet for sure, but looking back... fuuuuck. That was a thing I knew wasn't right. Sorry, that's an unlocked memory. That lady was gentle and safe with my nads though, so that was cool. Just wish I had a heads up first, christ!

Sooo, yeahh.. idk if that's normal, but it happens. Probably caused a kink or two, but my sack and I passed the physical. Dunno what we were checking without asking (drop your trousers; balls in hand suddenly), but apparently my bojangles were cool? Damn, completely forgot about that though

Moral of the story; it is apparently a thing. Dunno if it's medically weird or not, but it was weird for 6th grade me

And that's the result of religious ppl off you.

9

The problem is these perverts spend far too much time thinking about children and their genitals.

Partly became their religion is cool with it.

8

We need to start referring to these people as PACs... Pedophiles Against Competition.

Leave those kids alone you ghouls. What a fucking dark stretch of time.

6

For a second, I thought you meant Western Australia. And I was wondering why the f that would be happening here.

3

My first impression was that this bill must have been sponsored by Jon Lajoie, but no, he was not interested in kids genitals.

3

or an analysis of testosterone levels in the blood.

So as soon as a trans Person is in hormines for St least some time, they can still participate. The law is still complete discriminatory bullshit, but it is not a complete exclusion (even tho they would have liked if it would be that way)

2

While the law itself is a significant overreach and such. The article is really blowing it out of proportion. Doctors check a kids genitals at their yearly checkup until puberty at least. So thisnis just a simple doc signing off on something they have already done in the past. There will be exceptions of kids who moved or have a new doctor since puberty or something. But they already have to get a medical release usually to play sports anyway. So they will have a new doctor who will have undoubtedly done a general physical anyway. The ones who this really effects is the poor. The ones who don't have a regulat doctor. Who is going to be doing their medical release... I don't know. But it should at least be a doctor I believe.
Not that doctor's are garunteed safe or anything. But in most cases they were at least vetted by the parents and not some random schmuck showing up at games checking girls crotchs.

The goddamn team doctor for the US Women’s Gymnastics Olympic team is one of the most prolific child sex abusers to use their position of trust to gain access. Highly respected, highly public, and doctor to some of the most famous and elite athletes in the world and he did it for decades. You think they’re going to throughly vet Dr. McFeely when Nowhere Middle School needs a crotch inspector and Bumfuck City, Red State has only one physician in the county?

6
lemmy.world

This is for highschool sports. The state can't regulate the club sports like you are referring to so easily (if at all). Their aren't team doctors. The doctor should be the childs personal doctor chosen by the parents in this case.

This kind of comment is why there will never again be reconciliation. It’s not just leadership that’s a bunch of weirdos, it’s their supporters and defenders that find ways to excuse, justify, and normalize the weirdness with “well, technically it’s late teens getting genital inspections”. Hebephilia is still just as creepy as pedophilia and citizens excusing it is just as creepy as elected officials regulating genital confirmation inspections. You do realize this has nothing to do with personal health, it’s not an annual reproductive wellness, or STI prevention/treatment, or even “turn your head and cough” to make sure physical activity isn’t going to aggravate an injury. It’s the state saying “show someone your penis or vagina so they can make sure it’s a penis of vagina and report back to us”.

1
lemmy.world

Go back and read the first two sentences of my original comment. You are confusing what you want me to be saying with what I am actually saying.

1
lemmy.today

Read my final statement. I don’t particularly give a fuck “who” is doing it or their qualifications because the “why” is the problem. What kind of equipment is in someone’s underwear is not the concern of a school district, a nosy neighbor, a state, or a god. It’s the business of the person wearing the undies, the doctor they go to for health concerns about those parts, and the partner they engage in consensual relationships with. Even parents and caretakers don’t have a say in those parts, only the obligation to provide hygiene and medical treatment if the individual is unable to provide that themselves.

1
lemmy.world

You really couldn't be bothered to just go back and read. You just want so bad to yell at someone, you don't even care if they are actually on your side. I guess the old saying is true. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. See ya if you make a new account.

1

We’re not even close to being on the same side. You are correct, minors do go to doctors for healthcare that includes reproductive check-ups and wellness; that is normal. That you’ll excuse state sanctioned genital inspections as another checkbox the doctor marks off is the problem. The only time a person’s bodily autonomy becomes a matter of public concern is if that person has contracted a communicable disease (measles, covid, Ebola) and has unknowingly spread it, and even then it’s not important who that person is, only that an otherwise anonymous patient has it and here’s who might have been exposed. The state does not need to know who’s got what in their underwear, much less have anyone, medical professional or otherwise, examine their genitals, their blood, or their DNA to make sure it pleases the state, or anyone else.
