You think you've seen it all and then there's a Wayland Compositor inside Minecraft on Linux

A developer going by "EVVIE" managed to combine the worlds of Linux and Minecraft, to enable you to pull up all sorts of Linux desktop windows directly inside Minecraft. Sure does look cool, a bit like running a desktop inside a VR headset like the draft code for the full VR mode for KDE Plasma written about here before on GamingOnLinux.

"I use minecraft, btw" was in the comments of the demo video. Had a giggle.

if a creeper blows up and kills me while using it, does it crash all my running programs?

"...And then I hit my wood 6 times on the Filemanager which crashes immediately into pieces."

IT-Support: "You, did what?"

Oh, it's just a mod? I was hoping they built it with redstone. Still very cool, just not as impressive.

I don't think it would be possible to actually have a wayland compositor actually interface with the kernel and programs without some kind of mod

I saw the reddit thread the modder made, they said they ran Minecraft within Minecraft within Minecraft using this. Ingeniously absurd, I'm all for it

24

inb4 someone does this to end up saying minecraft is the perfect sandboxing program there is.

20

I'm sure it can though someone should try to play Morrowind inside Fallout 4's Pipboy too.

They built Zuck's metaverse but made it more fun and without burning billions of dollars.

And characters come with legs by default.

Doesn't have multiplayer support? Throw it away and make an X11 implementation instead. (/s)

I...I really kind of want this now. Like an honest to bob, turn the comp on and load in to MC running this. I want to walk to browser icon. I want to build a house besides my file explorer. To have a "physical" 3d location for everything in the world and being able to visit your photos, or fly by your games library. Super cool!

Damn, finally a good demo of what I suggested around 2010 for monitoring multiple displays in 3D - instead of moving 2D windows around all the time and forgetting which part of the screen you put them...
