He hasn't actually managed to secure that deal yet. He might easily get something worse.

151

Agreed. Why would Iran trust him to stick to a deal like we had before? That deal required having a lot of trust in the US government to abide by our deals.

42
lemmy.world

It's almost for sure worse. JCPOA was great (except for time limits) - I doubt they'll give up nuclear ambitions and allow inspectors

18
lemmy.ca

At this point, it seems pretty obvious that the only way to ensure the US and Israel don't try this again, is if Iran does get a nuke.

28
lemmy.world

That might actually be the solution.

I'm pretty much against the proliferation of weapons, and a country where the government is basically a maniac at the reins of a regressive death-cult, shouldn't have a nuclear weapon.

But since the US already has a bunch, I can't see why Iran shouldn't be allowed to have at least one.

11
Cethinreply

Israel has them too, and I don't really trust them at all. It's crazy to me that Israel gets to demand Iran doesn't get nukes, supposedly because Iran will attack them, yet they invade anyone the can. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. If it's good for Israel to have nukes, it's good for their adversaries.

My opinion is that no one should have them, but we're far past that point. I don't really know what happens in a world where everyone has nukes, but I can't think of a good argument that these other nations, who invade whoever they want, should be the arbiter of who gets them.

It’s already going to be a worse deal because it gave Iran the defacto option to mine/close the Strait of Hormuz anytime it wants more cash.

10
lemmy.cafe

Oh yeah, it's already going to be a worse deal, the Obama deal was great, kind of crazy they got it, actually.

It's just a matter of how BAD the Trump deal will be.

Hundreds of state department employees probably worked for 30 years on sanctions, diplomacy, and building trust to get that agreement. Trump blew it all up (including inflation and the economy) because that's how racist he is. Can't let a black man get a win, under any circumstances.

3

Also that those brown Iranians are practically cavemen, and will completely surrender at our technological might, as if they've never seen a motorized vehicle before, and they can be manipulated and scammed like the sub-human animals he thinks they are.

Meanwhile, most of the Iranian government leadership holds PhDs, while Trump holds a press conference to announce he was able to identify four animals, three whole times.

7

Right? Two months ago, closing the Strait was unthinkable, it was a thread that nobody would believe. Now it's any day. Well done.

1
lemmy.today

Yeah, but at least we aren't talking about the Trump/Epstein files anymore.

91

At this point the rest of the world will be invading America just to find out what the fuck is in them already.

Did Trump eat a child's heart Aztec human sacrifice style? What does Putin have on him exactly?

I'm sure I speak for many people when I say I am so tired of my cost of living going up for the Epstein class.

11

especially with his AG being TODD BLANCHE, and many other epstein files are going to media , he need something bigger than IRAn, because iran war is actually hurting the gop.

2
lemmy.ca

It won't even be as good of a deal, just any deal. But the important part is that it will be Trump's deal. That's all he cares about. That his name is on it.

79

Just like both times he's renegotiated north American free trade agreements, I'm sure this too will last.

8

What about the war crimes and the thousands of Iranians the U.S. is murdering? What about the more than a hundred schoolchildren who were torn to pieces by bombs during a direct U.S. attack on a school? Of course, those aren’t worth mentioning to this guy - only the U.S. "service members" and gas prices matter.

All too typical. This country makes me sick...

75

It is, but unfortunately a vast majority of Americans don't seem to care unless it affects them directly (at the pump).

And 1/3 will believe any lie told to them.

Honestly having a hard time coping rn

It's all Biden's fault. He did it too, you know, why don't you complain about that?

2

The imperialism runs deep in the mainstream American worldview. They're raised on it from a young age.

4
lemmy.today

I agree with you on the first topic.

But with the second topic, how does this country make you sick? We live in a time of plenty not money wise but in technology, and our rights. We have the right to speak, the right to bear arms, the right of religion, the right to far trial. We still have all these gifts to thank God for.

-34

This country is ruled by a serious criminal and pedophile who not only shamelessly embezzles billions in public funds and imprisons thousands of people in concentration camps, but also plunges the world into terror and war.

This monstrous regime commits so many repulsive crimes that it is impossible to list them all.

One of the tools the US employs in this is precisely the technology you mention: One example is Palantir, a diabolical corporation whose founder is an open fascist, with the kind support of both the US government and the butchers in Israel. The groundless, comprehensive mass surveillance offered by these monsters is, in turn, being rolled out to other countries by U.S. lobbyists with government support, in order to curtail the very civil liberties you speak of.

God has nothing to do with this; rather it is the lack of consistency, for US citizens remain largely passive in the face of all the crimes of their regime. Now and then, as on May 1, there are symbolic protests that, due to their one-off nature, naturally remain ineffective. And so the criminals at the top of the U.S. oligarchy can simply continue to terrorize the world, since U.S. citizens -who are the only ones who could put a stop to it - don’t even rise up against their own exploitation.

If the U.S. does indeed have the extensive rights you claim, how is it possible that the country is still run by organized crime? How is it possible that, despite all this, the citizens do not go on strike until the fascists are removed from power?

That is what I despise: The U.S. is a country that demonstrates beyond a shadow of a doubt that even the most horrific crimes go unpunished for the billionaires who commit them. In doing so, the U.S. sets an example for all the monsters of this world - and not only that, because the U.S. regime also actively and intentionally undermines international law, since it stands in the way of their crimes.

Why do you think the US has never recognized the International Criminal Court and has always actively obstructed its work?

You know an American's rights to speak, to freedom of religion and a fair trial are being challenged and denied right now by the current administration, correct?

3

"current administration" womp womp

(rights to speak and fair trial were all out of the window long before Trump ever took office)

(freedom of religion? Fine... anyway, the only ethical thing to do is to tax them, which isn't happening any time soon)

We live in a time of plenty, we have enough food to ensure no one goes hungry. We have medicine to cure things like turburculousis that has been killing humans as far back as we know. We choose not to share this plenty fairly, but you have the right to bear arms so I guess that makes everything ok?

6

but you have the right to bear arms

Ask Alex Pretti if you have the right to bear arms.

9

Who's we? And i dont want the right to religion, i want the right to NOT have religion!

Right to bear arms? How about the right to shoot them? Is that really freedom, the freedom to hide a gun in your pants and if you ever actually use it govt agents kill you?

Right to speak? But reporters are getting sued by the government for calling out our alcoholic fbi chief for being an alcoholic.

And which god are you thanking?

1

At this point, why would Iran give up any nuclear ambitions on a promise from the United States? Our promises are clearly not worth the ink they are written in.

32

I mean they dont seek nuclear weapons and they have a right to nuclear power, this war was literally started for no good reason at all by the us.

3

But Trump managed to prevent Netanyahu from releasing what’s in the E files about him unredacted - for now anyway

29
lemmy.world

No, it’s actually worse than Obama’s deal and yields a lot of concessions and leverage to Iran

27
lemmy.world

Not to mention the fact that this gave Iran the perfect opportunity to test out their theory on whether or not they could control the strait of Hormuz. Until this year it had only been a crackpot idea in their military circles. Now it's official policy for that country.

So, thanks Trump.

29

Also
- less oil is traded in USA dollars,
- the USA national debt reached highs that just beg for a rating downgrade,
- quite a few NATO allies now see buying USA weapons as a liability,
- the stock market atm is just AI (I mean that as a big volatility factor at an inopportune moment),
- China publicly gave 0 fucks about USA's shenanigans & the USA was forced to ignore it,
- and public opinion is now finally switching against USA companies.

Maybe the USA will have a crisis the will be the perfect moment for a coup. By the existing rulers. So not under new management.

7

Well, there isn't a deal at the moment, so no one has died as a result of it yet.

But with "self-defense strikes" having just occurred by the US on Iran, I don't think the deal is working out. Maybe though, who knows.

Really weird to count death toll only in 'murikan ppl, but yes.

Also it facilitated Israel's expansion.

And millions in poor nations are affected by high fuel prices directly (transport, cooking, medical facilities, agriculture, etc - in developed nations we just pay more for fuel, but the poor ones just can't afford that, that is the reason why gas prices haven't really exploded, they are "just a bit higher" bcs already at these level 20 or so % can't afford it & the market reaches equilibrium at lower quantify).

I would assume/hope that this is because they are targeting an audience that voted for Trump who don't care about the people America and it's allies kill.

5

And dont forget, we assassinated their leader so he could be replaced with an even more extreme leader who will probably align themselves with china and russia.

6

Yeah, but Obama's deal was terrible, and Trump's deal is amazing. Only traitors can't see the difference. /s

5
lemmy.world

To cause chaos, supplant the Epstein files with more "urgent" news; increase market volatility, kill children.... increase share price for defense contractors and profits for corporations that can use oil prices as a justification for ever higher prices.... the lie is that any of this has a point beyond itself or is in any way accidental.... even the partial release of the Epstein files was planned, cause if those child murdering fuckers in charge don't pull the curtain back every generation or so it stops being fun for them

5

Plus make billions with insider betting on polymarket and friends.

What's the point of it all?

He's obsessed with the delusion that only he can make deals. Only the best deals, the likes of which no one has seen before. Strong deals. 'Uge. Bigly deals.

I am reminded of the quote that "a clown with a flamethrower still has a flamethrower".

5

It's not a delusion, it's sophistry so he can steal more money. Everything he does is a way to generate bribes and ways to siphon money. He says whatever nonsense he doesn't care if it doesn't make any sense, what matters is he walks out of the press conference and starts planning how he's gonna steal more money.

5

The concerns of the american libs:
Their gas prices and the lives of their mass murdering army soldiers.
Disgusting country.

4

Don't forget the insider trading, both in the stock markets and our new "predictive markets." We bet on missle strikes now. I'm sure there're no incentives there or anything.

4

The point is corruption and insider trading, the whole thing people knowingly voted for but like to pretend they didn't.

The Obama deal was shite. The Trump deal is also shite.

Neither participant (Iran or USA) has ever honored an agreement when it's to their advantage to break it... what is the point indeed.

Iran will continue to develop/obtain nuclear weapons, because it's dumb not to (see Ukraine)

-5

Neither participant (Iran or USA) has ever honored an agreement when it’s to their advantage to break it…

There is no evidence that Iran was not honoring the JCPOA, which included unprecedented inspections and oversight.

7

If that was be true, why didn't they build one at any time in the past decades? They had everything needed to do it, including missiles to (theoretically) hit NATO countries.

Iran was very public about everything nuclear, including uranium stocks & facility inspections (bcs they didn't want a war, & are already surrounded in the region).
Just before the war they were asking the USA what to do with the highest grade enriched uranium (bcs at the time USA suddenly took offence to that) but USA didn't even respond (I mean it did with bombs, like a bully that does not want peace).
