First season of Altered Carbon. Black Mirror. I Think You Should Leave. BoJack Horseman. Fall Of The House Of Usher.

  • Travelers
  • The OA
  • Money Heist
  • Squid Game
  • MindHunter
  • Altered Carbon
  • Black Mirror

Those are the ones I can think of right now. There's also a bunch of anime that's worth watching if you're into that.

FYI some of these were cancelled early like The OA and Altered Carbon. From memory, Altered Carbon had a pretty open ending to both seasons so you could watch the first or both and feel satisfied, but The OA was very much unfinished and the cancellation was painful for fans.

The second season was not great. Anthony Mackie is not a good actor.

The first season was a 10/10 for me, and it is a complete story

It's extremely unique, so I agree. I certainly don't regret watching it, but it is perhaps the most painful cancellation for me. Shows like that deserve to be funded to completion.

2

The bad news is you'll never see another episode of The OA.

The good news is there is a support group. We meet every Thursday in r/FireFly

Midnight mass

The best show they have

11

If you like it and have time, check out Mike Flanagan's other stuff. He has done all his series through Netflix AFAIK.

I would recommend them in order. Start with Haunting of House Hill but they're all fantastic

1

Midnight Mass, Midnight Club, Haunting of Hill House, Haunting of Bly Manor, Fall of the House of Usher

It's Mike Flanigan all the way down

Arcane season 1 is one of the best shows, live action or animated, that I've seen. It is 10/10 storytelling, world building, visuals, pacing, character development, voice acting, soundtrack...it has no right to be as good as it is. If you watch it, know that the 9 episodes were intentionally released 3 episodes at a time because they're like acts of a play.

Do you like strong women? Character choices that make sense? Commentary on social structures? Creative portrayals of trauma? Stories where the consequences are terrible because everyone really believes they're doing the right thing, and you can see everyone's point? Welcome to Arcane, where the H stands for Happiness.

Season 2 is...meh in my opinion. It has cool moments but they shifted from a character driven story to a plot driven one and it throws off the pacing and suspension of disbelief. Still gorgeous to look at.

But season 1 is worth it on its own. Others may disagree, but I think if they had ended it where they did with season 1 it would be a perfectly self contained story.

11

I’d say the problem with season 2 is that they just had too much plot. I assume they learned that they wouldn’t get a third season and tried to cram two seasons worth of plot into one. It's still phenomenal and I recommend to watch it but it suffers from its fast pacing that leaves little room for the characters to breathe and some side plots underdeveloped.

If you like animated shows, Scavenger's Reign is on there, and fantastic too.

Hellbound.

Korean political/horror.

Angels appear to various people and tell them that in three days they are going to Hell. Three days later, demons appear and kill those people. Then the religious leaders, organized mobs, and politicians get involved.

7

How to Get to Heaven from Belfast

It's a horror comedy series about a set of 4 friends that were besties - inseparable - then became estranged for 20 years after A Mysterious Event

And now 3 of them are meeting up cause one of them died

I kinda knew it was gonna be great cause Derry Girls writer (excellent comedy series about a school in Derry, focused on the titular group of friends) and Ardal O'hanlan is in it (national treasure that is very picky about his scripts and only picks shows he likes the writing of)

3

I think 1670 is the funniest shit ive ever seen.

Bugonia was just added, that film tripped me out, I thought it very good

5

Bugonia was very good. A bit rough around the edges in some spots but it was a genuinely great new IP

TV Shows

  • Mindhunter
  • The Crown S1 and S2
  • When they See Us
  • The Queen’s Gambit
  • Ozark (though it gets messy and bad at times it has incredible moments)
  • Sense8
  • Godless
  • Maid

Though Spacey is a total piece of shit and the US has basically elected Frank twice:

  • House of Cards S1 and S2 were incredible TV, prior to 2016.

Movies

  • The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
  • The Trial of the Chicago 7
  • Beasts of No Nations
  • The Good Nurse

first season of Norsemen is really fun. the other seasons? meh I don't know they had a good theme going with the first and then for whatever reason decided to take the show seriously.

4

Dorohedoro is an anime filled with lots of gore, humor, world building and the weirdest story I've seen. Many of the episodes feel like they'll be trope anime when you start watching them but end up being masterful.

Give it a few episodes, I'm sure you'll enjoy it if you are not afraid of weird

Here's some I haven't seen mentioned yet. Live action:

  • Man on the inside
  • The Residence
  • Interview with the Vampire

Adult Animation:

  • Blue eye samurai
  • Castlevania
  • Pluto
  • Pantheon
  • Long Story Short
  • Mononoke (I think only the movies are exclusive but the series is there too)

Kids/teen animation:

  • Hilda
  • Wallace and Gromit: vengeance most fowl
  • Dead end paranormal park
  • Kid Cosmic
  • Kipo and the age of wonderbeasts
3

Blue Eye Samurai was incredible. Scavenger's Reign was an HBO/Max animated series that's currently on Netflix. I highly recommend that one. It's unfortunate we'll never get a second season.

3

Perhaps not a big hitter but back when Netflix was decent I really really enjoyed Centaurworld.

3

Check out the first season of Killing Eve. Head writer left after S1 so reviews of the other three seasons are decidedly mixed.

I thoroughly enjoyed the live action Cowboy Bebop.

3

The first season of Killing Eve is excellent, I'll vouch for that.

The quality does dip after that, but I still enjoyed the other seasons. I do admit the last season is the most rough, but after watching the first three I had to give the last one a shot. I've seen worse, but it's definitely the weakest.

2

The Umbrella Academy and Santa Clarita Diet, two good ones I’ve not seen suggested yet.

2

I Think You Should Leave

You might not like it, but you might love it and it will alter your brain permanently.

2

If you alike game shows:

  • Devil’s Plan
  • The Trust
  • Million Dollar Secret
  • Is it Cake?
  • Win the Wilderness
  • The Great British Bake Off
  • American BBQ showdown
  • Hyper Drive
  • Run for the Money
