The younger generations are very much afraid of being seen as tryhards, but they try very hard.

Holy fuck, what a nuclear and spot-on quote. I’m definitely saving this one for later

No, we must take everything completely seriously. Especially the stage personas of entertainers. Now where did I put my Daft Punk vinyl? Those two were completely normal musicians with no tomfoolery /s

Meh, these are influencers paying thousands of dollars to play dress up at a music festival so they can cynically exploit art and culture for clicks and engagement. Lots of these people don't ever go to see a single band, but they drive up the prices for those who want to actually go to a music festival.

I mean yeah, it's Coachella so what do you expect, but it wasn't always like this. It is cultural enshitiffication at the hands of the most vapid common denominator.

coachella has always kinda been ass, i remember mocking it in college and I’m old as dirt

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this. I see pics of a "music festival" but there's no mud, dirt, dust, and a complete lack of patrons that look strung out on days of drugs and a total lack of sleep. Then I hear about the premium experience you describe and I just shudder as my brain latches on to "this might look better, but it doesn't seem right."

I think I heard of Grimes because she was married to Elon Musk and they named their kid %^&%^& or sth idk

I think they let their cat walk on the keyboard when it was set for Wingdings, iirc

Yeah, heard of her now you mention, but wouldn't know her if I walked past her.

Grimes has some nice songs… sadly, she will forever be stained by that weird, ketamine-binging, nazi saluting prick.

I genuinely loved her older pre-Elon albums. They have such a unique vibe to them (Art Angels is still an absolute favorite). Everything since then though has honestly been very mediocre. Very sad. I blame Elon.

I looked into her because of that one lightshow song from the Cyberpunk 2077 DLC and immersed myself in her music for a while. Then I found out about her marrying Musk, and it’s hard to enjoy it any more because I can’t get over her terrible taste. Like, why? She already had enough money, was it worth it?

6

Yeah I agree it's kinda left a bad taste in my mouth regarding her. It was no secret he was an asshole at the time she decided to hook up with him, and as much as it sucks to say, I find it kinda hard to feel bad for her being stuck raising a child by herself because of that.

Reportedly she's dabbled in right-wing politics herself, possibly before the affair with Musk.

Despite the obvious joke, confusion like this can be avoided by simply putting the names in the same order as the people.

The video is absolutely a piece of absurdist art, but that track itself sounds very derivative of late 90s hardcore house music, and not in a particularly inspired way. Not my jam overall, but I guess I am also not the primary demographic for her art.

*early-mid nineties' happy-hardcore, which is closer to techno rather than house.

I'll admit I was never a big techno, house, or other electronic music connoisseur so I'll concede you're probably right.

I got to 2:55. I'm....hmmm...I mean it's.. I'm trying to say something. But..my brain. Is just not working. She is artistic. Also respect to the limp bizkit sound bite or whatever it's called. Say what ya want, but I grew up on the bizkit.

The person behind the songs is a piece of garbage, though.

Unless this is about horse girl. I don't know about her work.

1
lemmy.world

Yeah i meant horse girl. Grimes's earlier stuff sounded pretty cool to me too, but i got no idea what they are like as people

5
lemmy.world

Yeah lol i once heard her music described as "drinking champagne out of a can", i love the trashy no fucks given style

4

I dont know it qualifies as art if its so far removed from the creator that you know nothing about them.

I used to love grime’s music so much in like 2013-2018. She’s such a dumb fucking person. pantheress and Horsegirl are cool tho

13

Her real name is "Stella Stallion." 🤣

I've seen a documentary about a woman who turned herself into a cat with cosmetic surgeries and she looked like absolute shit; Horsegiirl here looks like an actual furry made flesh and it's just a mask.

11

Is horsegirl the latest member of slipknot? That would slap if she replaced sid.

6

I don't know any of them except the manic nazi dream girl (grimes), but...

I would participate in this blunt rotation for potential enlightenment
