Hey, you need an archive link of this tweet (archive.is or xcancel are pretty good). I see that someone linked the axios article, but it's paywalled and I don't have the bandwidth to look for the link, etc. Anyone can help do this, everyone has an hour.

Edit: Someone else posted a direct link, so it's verified to be true. Archive.is isn't archiving it for some reason. https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116351998782539414

I suggest to use ghostarchive instead of archive.is;

Anyway, i think that archive.is wasn't archiving because truthsocial uses cloudflare to block bots

I can't accept any screenshot of a Trump post as real unless there's a link to the original.

My father in law never swore in good company before having a stroke. Afterwards his “filter” was off and he swore like a sailor for any reason.

I wonder if that’s why Trump was supposedly at Walter Reed Friday?

6

That filter is the brain's 'frontal lobe', which is what trump's dementia is currently turning into swiss cheese.

Would there even be a point to making a fake post? He can come up with stuff that's far more unhinged than anything a compos mentis person can, and he does it on regular basis.

25

It seems to be real, even though it's not available anymore. There are still levels to the insanity though and with Trump it's impossible to discern reality from fiction without sources.

Interesting: using a VPN in Europe I can't see the post when following a direct link to it. Probably just some stupid setup on truth social.

Yet you cannot dismiss it out of hand no matter how dumb it is, if he posted that he just launched nukes at the Sun in retaliation for solar flares that put out our Communications systems, one could not be entirely certain he didn't actually write that.

20

I relate to this, but they almost always end up being real because this unfortunate reality is the one we're in :/

Question is, what does this say about the American population for electing, and continuing to tolerate someone like that?

It says media is insanely powerful and we were idiots for not understanding that at any time in the last 60 years.

Other countries - it’s coming for you. You’ll have your own MAGA cult soon if you don’t already.

32
mercreply
sh.itjust.works

Other countries don't have this problem because they don't have the free for all media landscape that the US does.

For example, in virtually every other country there's a well funded public broadcaster. And, even when that public broadcaster isn't dominating the viewership, it's normally seen as the most trustworthy news source. So, people can watch their favourite news channel, but when they want to fact check something they know they can tune in the public broadcaster.

Other countries are also not as insane as the US when it comes to defunding public education. Having a population that is able to tell fact from fiction is seen as important by most other countries, even if that means slightly higher taxes. The US sees well funded education as communism, and is trying to get rid of it, or defund it at a minimum.

The US is also one of the only places with a true 2-party duopoly with no other options for voters. Even in countries where only 2 parties have a realistic chance at forming a government, there are other parties that siphon off the crazies, and/or put pressure on the mainstream parties from both left and right.

I've lived in 4 other countries and have visited dozens more. The US is truly unique, and not in a good way. I'm not saying it couldn't happen somewhere else, but it's much more likely to happen in the US because of unique US dysfunction.

What's happening in the US was based on what had already been done in Hungary. Every single thing you mentioned happened there first.

No true Scotsman.

Maybe the US never recovered from being a slave-owning British colony. Everyone has their baggage.

1

The post I was replying to said "Other countries - it’s coming for you. "

Most Lemmy users aren't people using it from former Communist countries that never made the transition to working democracies. It may be coming (or have already come) for Hungary. But it isn't coming for "you", because "you" don't have the problems that Hungary or the USA does.

2

Were you directing the "you" in your comment at people in Russia, China and North Korea?

If so, I don't think they'll be surprised that fascism is coming for them.

I understood "you" to mean people who believe that they live in free countries with a free press.

2

I dunno, they might be! But no, you understood correctly. I’m just saying state media is as state media does. Hopefully it keeps the signal to noise ratio high. But private media companies are always growing due to their immense Political power.

1

But private media companies are always growing due to their immense Political power.

In the US that's true, but is it true of other countries? It seems like it in some countries like Israel, Italy and Hungary. But, those seem to be countries that have already gone pretty fascist.

Not too downplay the serious threat the hard right represent all over the world but it's not likely that they will get mega into other countries. Firstly because everyone can see what an absolute disaster they have been in the US but also because Trump isn't possible without a cult of personality and that's really hard to achieve.

Le Pen tried it in France and Nigel Farage is trying it in the UK and both have run up against the limits of support. There's always going to be the racists and the stupid who will vote for them (who then turned to inviting when things don't go their way), but they don't have the personality credits to convince the fence sitters over to their side.

3

For a hilarious result, look at what happened to clive palmer in Australia.

Sadly hatesink hanson is still extant.

1

More like Uncle Pedo sold both of your kidneys to the triads and now he's trying to blame the family's anger at him on your asthmatic lungs not being good enough for the triad, so that's why he sold them the second kidney instead of 1 lung and 1 kidney.

I supposed the good ways if he goes completely off the deep end and starts talking about rat people living in his head, his handlers won't be able to hide it anymore and they'll have to remove him from office.

4

They wouldn’t do that, all his supporters would go out and get rats installed in their heads. The rat king would gain more support than before.

Yeah, the usa has went past the rat people in heads level of unwell. Just look at the subject of this post, and think about the fact that it is about bombing another nation while making fun of that nations religion while the whole bleat is pants on head insane.

To see Trump say praise to allah is actually kind of hilarious if it wasn't for the circumstances. Chances are he's just gonna move the deadline again tho. Or just destroy civilian infrastructure but I doubt he'll destroy the oil infrastructure.

53

Iran can retaliate against his shit head allies, not so much Israel but the Arab ones, so he's mostly just bluffing, unless he decides to throw those allies under the wheels.

13

I don’t think anyone has ever accused trump of being good at poker but this is a masterpiece in how to tell your enemy that their chokehold is very effective and you have no power to change that.

53

He claims the art of the deal but man when there's something that stops him in his tracks, is this supposed to be good negotiation? What page in his book is this from?

9

I guess he's trying to insult them. I think he's confusing praising allah with picturing muhammed. I gues he'll learn eventually and his next tweet will be some horrible AI generated depiction of muhammed.

20

At this point I feel like he could just fuck and kill a baby on stage and his supporters would just be like "Wow, he's a real maverick who don't play by nobody's rules!"

Hyperbole, obvs, but it's feeling more possible every day.

33

It's not hyperbole, they know he rapes kids and they dont care because he abuses immigrants, that's tje tradeoff they consciously made.

18
lemmy.today

I feel they are VERY unhappy with him, but for some reason, Epstein shit only ranks second to war with Iran to his followers. Bunch of sociopaths.

The sociopath darwinists are probably most of the 20% that support him almost no matter what.

They can't completelly turn on him though, because they are desperate for someone to save them, even if they actually hate him.

4

They're unhappy with gas prices. They're very happy with everything else, were bombing iran and abusing immigrants because of biden he let it get so bad we need these drastic measures now, that's literally how they think.

4

Why not. I mean: they're all suddenly cool about raping children, so who knows if there's any limit.

5

I think it's weird at this point to just blame his supporters. A whole country would just watch him fuck a babie and go: well i did not vote for that, therefore ther eis nothing i can do

So will his trial in The Hague just be a bunch of MAGA Tik Toks covering his deranged posts promising he will commit war crimes?

25
zoutreply
fedia.io

I like your thinking, but he's never going to be tried in the Hague. The US has made clear it will invade the Netherlands if a US citizen is going on trial here, and besides, he's either mentally unfit or he won't live that long.

15
Skuareply
kbin.earth

For what it's worth, the act only authorises the president to command that to happen rather than requiring them to do so. It has a bunch of prohibitions on doing anything to facilitate the ICC, including on extraditing American citizens to get them on trial, but if he somehow does end up in the Hague then the then-president is 100% within their rights to just abandon him there

Of course I don't expect him to ever come close to winding up in the Hague in the first place. What a beautiful sight it would be if it did happen

4

They'd never do it. Plenty of war crimes have been done by Democratic-party run governments too. They don't want to open that door, even if Trump's warcrimes are 10x as bad and 100x as obvious.

1
reddthat.com

It's more likely he's had another stroke and is laid up in Walter Reed than he wrote this.

We literally have a law that says we'll invade if people try. It's fucking stupid.

22

Meh, war crimes mean nothing over here. How many years have we been talking about Warcrimes, and violations of international law. It does not count, only disfavored poor nations' leaders face these. There's a good chance they will assassinate some of the ICC people before this is over.

6

I don’t think it’s ever been tested*, but arguably no, the president can’t pardon war crimes.

They can only pardon “offenses against the United States”.

A war crime isn’t just an offense against the United States but also a violation of international law.

So, a future administration could try to go after these people for the international law violations.

As others have noted, the chances of that actually happening are nil.

*Trump has pardoned war crimes, but no one has yet tried going after the war criminals for the international law violations they committed.

6

Nuremberg, or the Hague, tries for warcrimes. One reason American foreign policy is so aggressive is because, generally, anything they do outside the US territory is considered legal. There's one law for Americans, and none for all the rest.

3

This doesn’t sound like the way he writes/talks at all. It’s too coherent.

18

Is that because Trump died in hospital the other day? So they're making Weekend at Bernie's 3: Middle East Mayhem

7

Also no thank you for attention to this matter. Heh that always made it sound silly anyways. Also I my spelling isn't always on point but no spelling errors?

He's saying "Praise be to Allah" sarcastically, which I'm interpreting as "I'm threating to do terrible harm to your country if you don't submit, and even your god can't help you." Or who knows - maybe he thinks he's being diplomatic? He doesn't think so it's hard to derive intent.
