And when the files get released and show that he raped and trafficked children, they will forgive him and nothing will happen.

He'll issue a retroactive EO making it legal, SCOTUS will allow it, democrats will cave....

Sometimes it's hard to see what is a distraction for what. Venezuela distracts from Epstein, Epstein distracts from secret police kidnapping people, Kidnapping people distracts from tarrifs, Tarrifs distract from Venuzela...

Distractions distract from the distractions. It's distractions all the way down.

But the distractions are each really big issues, so don't treat like a distraction.

Demoralizing (which is also the point)

I've been pretty pessimistic that the Epstein files would actually have any consequences, but an image in my head was trump in a sweater walking past all these nails sticking out of the walls, each time passing one it's forgotten for the next. Maybe this will be the nail that catches and undoes his sweater? Maybe with no more distractions the other stuff will finally catch up?

Like I have no reason to believe he will face any prison time for this, and I have no reason to believe that somehow this will give us healthcare, reverse citizens united, or return roe. Like the damage is done, so the most optimistic I can be is that this is the first domino but after everything that wasn't I don't know.

"finally gets him" will just mean republicans lose an election cycle. Maybe 2, like Dems won in 2006 and 2008. That's the absolute best we can hope for.

I used to get mad at doomers, back in 2014, 2018, but I hope for nothing now. There is a massive propaganda machine that has been constructed since the 1930's that demonizes any attempt to impead the power of the wealthy and their ability to increase their wealth. They hit their stride with fix news and have been baking the brains of American voters ever since.

It will take something truly catastrophic to change it. Covid wasn't enough, not even close. Losing a war might do it, not like Vietnam, I mean getting invaded an occupied. A pandemic that kills 30 million, maybe.

Short of a biblical catastrophe like that? We face a slow grind into deeper poverty for the rest of our lives. Punctuated by figures like Obama and Mamdani that offer some temporary relief for an election cycle or 2.

I think the only peaceful way out is a wealth tax. I don't think America will do it, but that's the simplest best solution.

So 45% of assholes surveyed are all good with gestapo. Cool.

Cool cool cool.

Of coarse they are. Why would him being a pedo bother them? They were partying together on the same island!

That is somehow both depressingly high and reassuringly low. It should not be that high, but I'm so used to them being so in lock step with their clan that it'd be 80% or more no matter what

4

It should be noted that on the immigration issue he's flagrantly violating constitutional rights and yet it's where he's doing best

lemmy.blahaj.zone

To toss some cold water out there, that means the split is about 60% against him on the Epstein case, and 40% think it's fine. That's still far too many people who looked at that and went "naw, all good".

60:40 is a 20-point margin. Gotta get to 70:30 to lose by 40 pts.

30% of Americans think the Nazis made some good points, so 100% of people capable of independent thought think its disgusting.

10

I don't think they made any good points. I do however think whoever their imzge consultant was, had the right idea. They may have done some of the most horrific atrocities against any society ever recorded in human history......but they had stylish uniforms as they did.

I know NASA snatched up their rockets program. Why didn't someone snatch up their fashion police? What? If ANYONE had actual fashion police, it would have been nazi germany.

2

...are you unaware that Hugo Boss was the designer of their uniforms? The company is still around today designing clothing.

4

So, if Trump weren't involved with Epstein, most of the asked people would still perceive him positively? That's actually quite grim if true

7

These numbers are arranged in decreasing order, but probably aren't directly related. The 39% doesn't inherently encompass the other values, one can dislike his Epstein stuff and his immigration policy, but not his economic stuff.

The latest overall approval/disapproval stats I've seen are somewhere in the ballpark of 40/55% spread. So, your point almost definitely holds for some percentage, but that's not really something that can be interpreted here, you'd need a specific breakdown.

Luckily that guy is circling the bit that's important or I wouldn't know where to look

6

To be fair, it's a screenshot from a live broadcast. He was probably circling it to emphasize his words like a stage prop

Sorry, what happened? He circled something? What wa s it?

1

Top image, the man in the image is circling the -39 in bright green. You can see half of the circle at this frame.

1

Net approval inflates these things; converting back to percentages 30% of Americans like what he's doing with the files. Not a cause for celebration.

4

I think they'll still vote for the party no matter who's in charge because we gotta "get rid of the totally made up and not real gender ideology!!11!!" and "kick out all the illegals!!1!!1"

You reached the end
