Alright, the truth then. You're right about one thing... I do need capital. And votes. Wanna know why? "I have a dream." That one day, every person in this nation will control their OWN destiny. A land of the TRULY free, dammit. A nation of ACTION, not words. Ruled by STRENGTH, not committee. Where the law changes to suit the individual, not the other way around. Where power and justice are back where they belong: in the hands of the people! Where every man is free to think -- to act -- for himself! Fuck all these limp-dick lawyers and chicken-shit bureaucrats. Fuck this 24/7 Internet spew of trivia and celebrity bullshit. Fuck "American pride". Fuck the media! Fuck all of it! America is diseased. Rotten to the core. There's no saving it -- we need to pull it out by the roots. WIpe the slate clean. BURN IT DOWN! And from the ashes, a new America will be born. Evolved, but untamed! The weak will be purged, and the strongest will thrive -- free to live as they see fit, they will make America GREAT AGAIN!

What the hell are you talking about?

You still don't get it. I'm using war as a business to get elected... so I can end war as a business! In my new America, people will die and kill for what they BELIEVE! Not for money, not for oil! Not for what they're told is right. Every man will be free to fight his own wars!

Thank you. I didn't think Senator Armstrong wouldn't be recognized on the games community.

I never played that game, and without that context, it is genuinely scary how hard it is to tell whether it not this is a real thing a real politician actually said. God damn, Kojima saw it coming.

It's crazy that the Japanese parodies of US politics are more accurate than any other portrayals from that era. They even got MAGA slogan dead on!

Yeah it is scary to hear make American great again before Trump ever campaigned in the 2016 election

There was a sci-fi book called Parable of the Sower in the early 90s that had it as the slogan of a shitty fascist president. It's worth a read and will feel especially creepy right now.

2

Replying to myself because I remember the og Artorias and Sif intros. That series is full of cool ones though.

Oh man, and the environmental component hearing the clash of metal get louder as you approach the arena. FromSoft has always been good at it, but that was really peak environmental design and story telling.

Sarah Kerrigan in StarCraft 2.

I am the Swarm. Armies will be shattered. Worlds will burn. Now at last, on this world, vengeance shall be mine. For I am the Queen of Blades.

The descent of the Moon Presence in Bloodborne is still one of my favorite intros ever.

Elden Ring, the Lord of Madness. Intro, and the mid fight phase change gave me goosebumps with the music

Orochi in Okami. You spend the first entire third of the game building up to your first fight with him and by the time you’re fighting him, you have an incredible amount of context for how legendary your battle actually is.

Many of the boss battles in that game had amazing lead-up.

It has to be Riku in Kingdom Hearts. He takes about 5 minutes or more to tell you that your path ends there and he actually delivers. Then he tells it again when you inevitably try again, because you can't skip the bloody cutscene.

Have recently played this for the first time, and I'm stuck on the final Riku fight, it's excessively difficult and worst of all I just don't really care about the characters for it to be worth it for me to finish the game, honestly a super overrated game.

For a long time I thought KH to be the best game ever but... It is ! When you're a teenager, when you're going through angst. But when you're a grown up, it is not as good.

Maybe it's just the nostalgia of it, but the flying through the tunnel while andross monologues at you, then the tunnel ends and this evil dude, who you've never seen as anything but a disembodied face, he just appears as a disembodied face for starfox 64 was fantastic. https://inv.nadeko.net/watch?v=BSUW2Rsej7I

Final boss of Dark Souls

::: spoiler Tap for spoiler I'd argue the entire game is the boss intro. And IIRC, the lore behind Gwyn is pretty deep too. You fight all these big baddies, and when you get to Gwyn, he's relatively pretty weak.

I remember being very fascinated by all the dark souls lore and his was particularly interesting. I vaguely remember that after killing him, you have the choice of keeping the flame alive or leaving and breaking the cycle? :::

There was an interesting video I saw online that was saying the final boss's theme is interesting because it's a piano piece for two players. The boss's theme in it is very static, and the other, presumably yours, is more dynamic. Fits with the hollowing static world

TGM4's Master Rounds stage intro is really cool. After hitting Lv.2600 on the hardest stage you can find in modern Tetris, it rings the stage clear tune. But suddenly, it starts playing a different track. Your level starts rolling back, and so does your moves and the timer. The song intensifies while doing so. Everything stops when the timer comes back to 65 seconds. That's right, you're racing against your previous self to hit Lv. 2600 again.

READY?

GO!!

It's a really hard accomplishment to the point only three people (technically four if we include the first Rounds play, but that method is not possible to do anymore) have managed to get a Rounds grade play so far, but I'd love to achieve it anyways. I'm nowhere near getting Rounds (my max was Lv.816), but I think I can slowly getting there. Maximum gravity already feels hard, but with frozen minos I can't really afford making a mistake.

I'd like to submit my two favorite buddies from AC games for consideration.

Rusty from Armoured Core VI, especially the final fight against him in Breach The Karman Line. With that backdrop and his sweet ass AC sliding to a stop while you can hear the pure venom in his voice "Here we are... buddy..." as Steel Haze starts playing.

And then we have Ace Combat Zero, having just prevented the V2 launch, flying back to base when your wingman gets one shot by a fucking laser, and you see your former wingman, Pixy, in a hitherto unseen aircraft and hear the flamenco accompanied by that voice: "So, have you found a reason to fight yet... Buddy?".

Similar themes across both, and both are absolutely iconic.

3

Both fantastic but special props to Ace Combat Zero for giving the PC one of the most bad ass titles in gaming and then giving you awesome dogfights that double down on earning the title Demon Lord of the Round Table

Final boss and all of his phase changes in Black Myth Wukong

Renoir on a technicality from Expedition 33

Man I have really been riding the fence on dumping the money for Black Myth Wukong. You mind if I get your honest take? It worth full price?

2

Oryx at the end of the Destiny Taken King expansion. Walking down this dark passageway and his symbol appears in light in front of you and the door opens to reveal him. So epic!
