Disappointed with Aqara - Zigbee hub, but no 3rd party?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but...

Buyer Beware! Aqara hubs use the Zigbee protocol, but lock out 3rd party devices!

A few months ago, I bought an Aqara hub and went deep into their ecosystem. I saw their hub and sensors had good reviews, plus they were using the Zigbee open protocol, so I figured I'd stick with their stuff. I had no reason to try other devices until recently.

I picked up a tilt sensor for my garage door from a 3rd party. I made sure it was also using the Zigbee protocol, so I assumed it would be compatable. Unfortunately, when I tried connecting it to the hub, I was wrong and it wouldn't connect. Turns out, Aqara uses the Zigbee protocol, but locks out 3rd party devices. [source]

If anyone has a workaround to integrate a 3rd party device with an Aqara Hub (IIRC, I have the M3?), I'd love to hear about it. But until then - I'm looking for a refund. I would have never picked up their hub if I had known about their shennanigans; and consequently, I wouldn't have picked up so many of their sensors.

QUESTION: My vehicle was hit while parked. What next?

cross-posted from: https://sh.itjust.works/post/47073892

Hey everyone,

I've got a question about how to deal with an automotive incident in London, Ontario. Any advice would be much appreciated!

I parked my vehicle outside of a shop, and while I was inside, someone backed into my vehicle & drove off. I was able to capture the hit and run on dash cam, including the other drivers license plate. It's very clear who it was. Luckily, the damage basically boils down to a few dents and scratches.

Im obviously planning on fixing the damage; however, from those that I've spoken to, it's not worth trying to get any compensation from the one who hit me. I'd have to file a police report to get their information, to get the police report I'd need to give them my insurance information, and then my insurance finds out and will raise my rates.

Is there anything worth doing, or am I SOL on this one?

Again, any advice would be much appreciated!

EDIT: Thank you to those that replied! I ultimately decided not file a police report, and eat the cost on this one.

Judge considers halting building operations at new concentration camp as the developers forgot to submit an environmental impact study

Judge to consider halting operations at 'Alligator Alcatraz' over environmental concerns

Known for the eponymous reptiles that inhabit the nearby swamps, the migrant detention center dubbed "Alligator Alcatraz" faces the possibility of being shut down over concerns about some of the area's lesser-known inhabitants -- the Everglades' bats, panthers, and storks.

A federal judge on Wednesday is set to hold an evidentiary hearing over whether to block operations at the controversial facility because construction of the site allegedly bypassed federally required environmental impact studies.

The hearing -- at which federal, state, and tribal officials are expected to testify -- comes amid heightened scrutiny of the facility, which was once touted as a "one-stop shop to carry out President Trump's mass deportation agenda."
