DOJ plans to label trans Americans as "mentally defective" to take away their guns

Justice Department leadership is prepared to use its rule-making authority to declare transgender people as mentally ill and deprive them of their Second Amendment right to possess firearms, according to two Justice officials who shared internal discussions with CNN.

Deliberations at the highest levels of the DOJ follow the recent mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, an attack police say was carried out by a 23-year-old former student at the church’s school who may have been a transgender person or a de-transitioned individual. Two children were killed in the attack, and 21 others were injured.

Labelling the groups they hate as mentally defective is very much a Nazi move.

We can't have mentally ill people breeding, we better start issuing pregnancy licenses that everyone has to apply for.

29

Haven't heard of that. But another option is the SRA (socialist rifle association). Its a nationwide version of the NRA for socialist/leftists. They are not activist but strictly an organization for learning firearm safety and use. Highly recommend from my experience with my local SRA.

Our membership has exploded since the election. And obviously a lot of our members are from the queer community.

16

I am not into guns but I am into that group name! "Activate interlock! Dynatherms are connected! Infrashells are go! Let's go!"

The right is about to learn the very important lesson that support of gun control does not necessarily imply a lack of gun ownership.

95

The right has never supported gun ownership for groups they consider outside "American identity" just look at Reagan's actions while governor.

54

Where's the "shall not be infringed" crowd?

48

Trump once said that his closest advisor, Stephen "PeeWee Himmler" Miller, told him that he wanted to reduce the population of the US to 100 million people, who looked like him (God forbid).

That would be a decrease of about 70%. It would be interesting to hear his explanation as to how he intends to accomplish that objective.

Taking their guns is only the first step against transfolk. Once they're declared mentally unwell they'll start locking them up and forcing treatment on them.

As supported by the previous executive order that authorizes institutionalization of homeless and mentally ill people.

I am so disgusted by this wretched administration.

27

They’re going to expand civil commitment. “Trump derangement syndrome” as a diagnosable illness.

Any clear-thinking individual has always recognized that the party that will be the first to restrict gun ownership will be the MAGAs.

15

Dems have engaged in or attempted a lot of gun control historically. Notably the assault weapons ban. That was just plain old fashion racism.

This trump law's fascism is in how they want to generate the ban; they want to label being trans (a minority) as a mental illness.

2

Let's simplify this: United States politicians are either coming for your guns are actively not helping you when other politicians come for your guns. Same shit to me but maybe others prefer the semantics.

1

And this fixes the economy how? And this releases the Epstein files how? And this helps climate change how? And this stops the war in Ukraine how? And this stops the genocide in Gaza how?

31

First they came for the gay's guns.........

It is important to set up a system to confiscate guns. Try it on a small group then expand gun confiscation group by group. Eventually a loyalty pledge will be required, then conscription.

28
lemmy.world

As a gun owner, this is my promise for America

If you come for my guns, we will have a gun fight, don't worry I know I'll lose, but I won't be alive when you put dirty hands on my guns.

27

The problem is, everyone has this fantasy storyboard in their heads of the cops showing up going door-to-door with their MP5s and riot shields in a nice neat line loudly announcing their intentions. That is absolutely not how gun confiscation is going to work.

Instead, once they've declared that trans people or Democrats or whoever else are now blanket banned from owning guns, any time you interact with the police, let's just say during a (probably spurious) traffic stop, your name will come up on their little computer as a "person prohibited" and they'll put you in handcuffs and stuff you in the back of a police car right then. And then go break into your house and toss it looking for guns when you're not there to stop them. There will be no fight. You'll already be under arrest for something else. They'll find (or plant) whatever they want, and charge you with an additional nine hundred crimes that are all rewordings of the same thing, and put you in jail. When they come up to you they're not going to be talking about guns, they're going to start off with some low-grade bullshit you think you can talk yourself out of but use that as a pretext to lock you up for your guns.

There will be no headlines of jack booted thugs going around systematically kicking in innocent people's doors and garnering a bunch of negative press for themselves that people can rally themselves around. There will be individual local little news articles, one at a time, all along the lines of "Arsenal Of Illegal Weapons Found in [town name] Man's Home/Car By Brave Policemen After Conducting Traffic Stop, One Of Which Was a High Capacity Black Semiautomatic AR Glock Assault Child-Shooter," with an article underneath carefully spin-doctored to slander the individual in question as a mentally unstable transgendered pot smoking child grooming terrorist. They'll do this one at a time, forever, even long after they've gotten everyone the think they wanted to get.

The only defense against that is to assume that any time a cop looks in your direction you need to lock and load right then and there and initiate a fight for your life. Even if you win, you'll automatically be the bad guy.

Are you ready for that?

Is anyone ready for that?

I really thought they were going to side with the administration like they did when it was California trying to defang the Black Panthers.

11

I heard The Professional Left suggest that trans show up to events, fully strapped with as many legal guns as possible and then see how fast they do a repeat of Cali for the Panthers....

8

They put out a statement saying they don't support taking away guns. That's not doing something.

4

I saw the headline a day or two ago about how they wanted to remove their guns, and my first thought was they're going to declare them mentally ill.

Sigh

22

Mentally defective? Voting republicunt is mentally defective!

Nice distraction though: RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES!!!

RELEASE THE FILES SO WE CAN GET ON WITH THE PUBLIC EXECUTIONS

Every politician that is not pushing for the release is most likely complicit in this global child sex trafficking ring.

We can't let trump control the narrative like that. We have to shift the narrative back to the economy every time something like this comes up.

"Trump promised we'd have well-paying jobs again. Where are they?"

17
lemmy.world

I dunno if you're in the US or not, but here, the whole information pipe is so screwed up.

Rage? You feed the trolls, and feed the algorithms/news.

Be reasonable like that? No one hears you. Boring statements don't sell ads. And Trump has 'hacked' that attention economy pretty good.

...So you aren't wrong, but I'm convinced that's a useless sentiment now. I'm more into the "where are the Epstein files" meme because uncovering pedophile conspiracies are a core MAGA tenant. It's the only thing that will get through and bust glass.

12

i have had the impression for years now (at least since 2012, because that's when i started observing) that the world in the US is deeply broken on a deeper level than the surface.

superficially, the US is possibly close to a civil war, with trump deploying troops to cities, angry trump loyalists storming the capitol just a bit earlier, and such. but if you look deeper, the whole picture looks a lot darker.

it's not so much that people are as stupid as they pretend to be (only caring about epstein, neglecting their own financial situation, not caring about sustainability & having a future), instead it's that a lot of people have emotional struggles that reach deep and keep them from making reasonable choices.

i think a lot of people are just really really emotionally hurt. if you look at the typical people in rural areas, a lot are emotionally broken, feel abandoned by society, feel as if they're left to rot in their tiny, abandoned villages, that anger channels to the coastline cities, where it's supposedly better, and then you end up with a "owning the libs" situation where basically the rural population is trying to take petty revenge on the people living in the coast cities for living a better, more meaningful life than themselves.

this can't be cured by just changing the communication channels somewhat. it would need a deep and fundamental processing of the soul of people. it can't be done overnight, and at this point, i'm worried that nobody actually tries to care for the people who feel left behind and abandoned at all. basically, the rich move on, undertaking their enterprises, leaving large parts of the country behind, unemployed and without meaning and purpose in life. i'm pretty sure we'll see some civil revolts (which will be forcefully bashed by the police and such), and then we'll see the development of parallel societies where you practically have large ghettos in cities which is essentially like a parallel universe.

i think it's for the better though if some parts of the country secede. it's not possible to give employment to everyone*, and if these people can at least form their own societies, they'll have integrity and self-determination, and that's worth something.

* in the year 2040, AI and automation have replaced a lot of jobs.

The works of the roots of the vines, of the trees, must be destroyed to keep up the price, and this is the saddest, bitterest thing of all. Carloads of oranges dumped on the ground. The people came for miles to take the fruit, but this could not be. How would they buy oranges at twenty cents a dozen if they could drive out and pick them up? And men with hoses squirt kerosene on the oranges, and they are angry at the crime, angry at the people who have come to take the fruit. A million people hungry, needing the fruit- and kerosene sprayed over the golden mountains. And the smell of rot fills the country. Burn coffee for fuel in the ships. Burn corn to keep warm, it makes a hot fire. Dump potatoes in the rivers and place guards along the banks to keep the hungry people from fishing them out. Slaughter the pigs and bury them, and let the putrescence drip down into the earth.

There is a crime here that goes beyond denunciation. There is a sorrow here that weeping cannot symbolize. There is a failure here that topples all our success. The fertile earth, the straight tree rows, the sturdy trunks, and the ripe fruit. And children dying of pellagra must die because a profit cannot be taken from an orange. And coroners must fill in the certificate- died of malnutrition- because the food must rot, must be forced to rot. The people come with nets to fish for potatoes in the river, and the guards hold them back; they come in rattling cars to get the dumped oranges, but the kerosene is sprayed. And they stand still and watch the potatoes float by, listen to the screaming pigs being killed in a ditch and covered with quick-lime, watch the mountains of oranges slop down to a putrefying ooze; and in the eyes of the people there is the failure; and in the eyes of the hungry there is a growing wrath. In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage.

-The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck

There is no Republican Party any more. They are as dead as the Whigs, and should only be referred to in a scholarly, historical context.

This is the MAGA Party, and doesn't follow any of the foundational tenets of the Republican Party - Smaller govt, lower taxes, fiscal/economic responsibility, family values, etc. It is an entirely separate party whose foundational tenets include treason, corruption, racism, misogyny, pedophilia, genocide, intolerance, and more.

Our country is being destroyed by MAGA. The Republican Party is responsible for the rise of MAGA, but we need to make sure MAGA gets full blame for the destruction they have caused, and the full punishment they deserve. MAGAs need to understand that when they are forced from power this time, they won't be forgiven like Biden did. They will feel the wrath of Liberty.

4

foundational tenets include treason, corruption, racism, misogyny, pedophilia, genocide, intolerance, and more.

Idk, that's been the Republican party platform as far back as I can remember.

They have a corporation already doing this: setting up a centralized database for monitoring all citizens. It's called Palantir (Stock ticker: PLTR). So, if that database can easily have a boolian value for transgender. Then, all they got to do is operate off that database for finding which transgender persons have a gun, check that database to see if the person is unable to buy one because they're marked as Jew transgender, and consult that database when it comes time to round up the Jews transgender people for confinement in internment camps.

Not saying this is anything but evil, but they are putting the tools of genocide together now. With this, they'll label the undesirables with a gold star that people won't be able to not wear, they just won't know its there. But, facial recognition technology will be able to take care of any incongruities.

And I've gotten a couple complaints about "illegal driving" which is fucking laughable to anyone who rides with me, and Uber cause they use telemetrics on the phone out the ass, so they can see how my driving was.

But I don't just let shit go anymore. If you say something stupid I'm going to inform you of the truth and make you feel dumb while I do it. Recently some dude was gushing about alligator Auschwitz, and when I told him they are shutting it down you could see... Nothing, there was absolutely nothing behind this dude's eyes.

4

This is probably just another distraction. I don't think the executive brach has the power to declare someone mentally ill for the purposes of existing gun legislation. They would need a new law through congress, and they won't get enough votes for that.

3

Legislation? That's so old school. The really important stuff, like repealing Constitutional Amendments, is all done by Executive Orders these days.
