You want the freshest memes? You have to harvest them from the meme fields. They are full of landmines.

Or just make your own.

The OC per capita is actually pretty big here on lemmy.

I have noticed and it is wonderful. I'll have to see if I have any oc worth salvaging from my reddit account.

There will never be an original joke again. Billions must repost.

How did you manage to make this look deep fried in the very first screenshot? Without knowing it's from this very thread I would assume the meme was from a few years ago at least with those pixels.

Not the other guy but my Samsung S23 has a "resize" feature which is good for artificially deep frying images

Kind of how I found reddit... "So... Digg is just reddit only 24 hours later? 🤔"

Digg was more popular first, then they ruined it and many fled to reddit (including me). But they existed at the same time for a long while.

One of my pet peeves is that adage about how the modern internet is just 4 websites stealing content from each other. Because like, the websites themselves don't make the content - the users do. There is no difference between a meme originating from instagram or ifunny; it was made by a person who wanted to create a unit of culture, and it's your duty to make sure it spreads around.

Memes (as they are now) made the web so much worse. They're the plastic in the ocean of the Internet

11

All the best memes and content came out of 4chan because that's where all the weirdos and perverts were. It's the same reason that the new seasons of Rick and Morty aren't as good as the old ones, they got rid of Justin Roiland.

anyone else remember when all the funny on the internet originated from somethingawful forums?

LUE had some great stuff too! And YTMND had the freshest “fads.”

And then boomers started doing this circa 2015 but then took everything at face value

As a medium, the image board is really interesting. No usernames (there are tripcodes etc.), no accounts, no upvotes. In the low traffic SFW boards that don't really trigger people's emotions (fashion, cooking) it can be pretty comfy with how low stimulus it is.

/b is 80% trap threads, 15% thinly veiled revenge porn and 5% fake stories but its nowhere near as bad as anything you'd see on Twitter on the right (wrong) side of the algorithm.

Oh yeah the unchecked transphobia and disinformation is way more traumatizing than the occasional gore thread

Videos of cartel executions are nothing compared to 140 characters of mean words

Tell me you think shit doesn't stink without telling me you think shit doesn't stink.

I skipped my senior prom to spend the night in San Francisco with my boyfriend. I still think Tumblr is complete shit.
