Okay you say that now, but what happens when you get folded over and thrown in a bag and--

You know what, I'm just going to stop right there.

Then, suddenly after being carried for a while you stop and in the darkness of the bag something smoothly enters your nice little power hole. After a while you're pulled out of the bag and someone starts rapidly poking stuff into all your ports, and you're nearly there as someone reaches our and gently starts touching your keys-

I'm also gonna stop, I'm now afraid of myself and what I was capable of creating

I think I was more just trying to figure out the anatomy. Like I questionsed, their eye is the camera? So does that mean they are opening the screen, and why do they have multiple cameras. Then I realized phones have a bunch now and I haven't looked at laptops in a long while so it could very well be that they have 2 and I don't know. That said. Now I'm wondering if some have 3 cameras top left, center and right. So the left and right can capture a 3 dimensional images/video.

Pretty sure that's a 15" Pro not an Air, that comes with twice as many ports standard. Of course they were all Thunderbolt 3 lol.

But these are out of production anyway. Newer ones have more port choice again. Airs still only get thunderbolt 4.

Newer ones have more port choice again.

There is no choice though, you can't keep it TB4 only like the older models or the air, you're forced to have a bunch of legacy ports.

4

I clearly meant there's just more ports. Framework aside, you've never really been able to choose your own ports.

The Pro still has TB4 too, in addition to the legacy ports.

Let's not rehash that argument. Use what works for you and let other people use what works for them. There is no right and wrong way that works for everyone

Agreed, just trying to post in the shitposting spirit 🤣

I have a MacBook Pro and use a CalDigit TS4 hub because I need more ports.

Woah that's an expensive dock! What do you need it for?

3
lemmy.world

Macbooks refuse to connect to more than one display over a USB-C dock, meaning you have to purchase a thunderbolt dock.

6

Or ditch the Macbook and get a proper computer without artificial restrictions.

4

Two 4K monitors, a mic, a camera*, a personal yubikey, a work yubikey, an iPhone charging puck, and a spare port to occasionally charge the keyboard or trackpad.

*despite being TB4, the dock’s bandwidth is insufficient for a 4k camera stream running through an Elgato Camlink, so my dock (ascrono vertical docking station) has one of its ports going to the cam and the other to the hub. I’m convinced there isn’t a hub on the market that supports my requirements.

Because I rather not have environmental damaging batteries in every device I use when my laptop has a big enough one to power them all and is close by at all times anyway.

Seriously, wireless protocols over a distance of <1 meter are worthless and unnecessary.

10

I never said anything about battery operated devices. I was thinking things like printers and external storage.

1

There are plenty of times when wireless solutions does not in fact "do trick".

We only have a limited available radio frequency spectrums we can use.

And trust me, if you have a wireless AV transmitter to the projector in a meeting room it may work fine with five people in the romm, but it will fall on it's arse when there are 50 people in the same room.

1

That docking station made my MacBook take 2HDMIs, 6 USBs, 2 AUX. she’s taking it all and still got room for more.

Lies. I was covered in custard and then whipped with a rj45 just last night, and it felt scrumptious!!

Oh get over yourself, it's just some spanking tradition, ..🫩

If it has the little bar that prevents it from being pulled out, something will be ripped off

5
lemmy.world

Who said it's being pulled out when the laptop chooses? Just means it comes out when the laptops owner chooses, and then it comes out nicely when they release the bar, haha

This is like the dirtiest thing I've ever read that didn't actually contain anything overtly dirty

I do wish I had as many more useful holes. I only have 7. Right?

we established in another thread that the number of holes on a person is difficult to calculate, it needs a biologist and a topologist working together.

I don't know, and the reason I don't know is that the ear nose and throat system is too complex to figure out in my head in terms of how many holes it has, if any.

9
lemmy.world

Am topologist, I'm counting 6 holes. 3 from the ass to mouth, and each nostril, one each from each nostril to the mouth, and one from one nostril to the other.

3

At 1:40 he defines his minimum hole size, but I chose a minimum size that doesn't count tear ducts.

Also I just found out, I may not know what a hole is. If I puncture a plate twice, it now has 3 ways to tie a string through it, so 3 holes? Can anything have just 2 holes?

The desk clutter for this setup makes my eye twitch. I’d rather have 1 or 2 cords connected and a dock tucked away.

Edit: Ports good for flexibility on the go. But at home, I don’t want a rat’s nest of cables. Cable management is what separates us from the animals.

6

Agreed. I prefer a 'proper' dock like the HP ultra Slim dock 2013 or the Lenovo ThinkPad pro dock, where you set the laptop into it and you're good to go, but times change and the current usb-c thunderbolt docks are reasonably decent now. One cable if your laptop doesn't have insane power demands, or two if you use a laptop with >100W draw
