The Room. For me it’s the definitive “so bad it’s good” movie.

Hackers (1995), admittedly it has a fairly respectable 6.2 on IMDB, but only 33% on the tomatometer.

More honorable mentions:

  • Kingdom of heaven (2005) - 40% tomatometer
  • see no evil hear no evil (1989) - 29% tomatometer

In high school is was one of our go to. I think I watched it almost monthly for a few years

Maybe not really love love but quite enjoyed:

The whole movie is bad and offensive, just like the games it is based on. And that makes it a nice fun adventure. It does really help if you've played the games though. I would give it a 6/10.

Same thought, it has 2,6/5 on Letterboxd, the distribution is crazy:

Thats pretty cool. Movies with such wide distribution are often at least interesting.. Not per se good though.

I think it falls flat at the end when the action begins. But most of its time it does a pretty good job at being self aware and is entertaining. I never played the Postal games though.

6

Yeah, the action part is the least interesting, especially...

::: spoiler spoiler the shootout at the end. :::

But I really like the soundtrack of the last scene and the credits after that.

I’m surprised no one has rebooted this property as a streaming series.

6

I like it rather than love it, but wow! 16%!

Probably "The Core" (2003). I saw it in science class in 8th grade and immediately thought it was the coolest movie ever. Years later, I saw people online ripping it to shreds over its inaccuracies, but I still enjoyed it for being a fun disaster film with an enjoyable ensemble cast of characters.

Is that the one with the nerdy kid that's like "I'm gonna need hot pockets" or whatever?

Mom and Dad Save the World is at 5.4/10 - probably not actually the worst I love, but I correctly guessed it would be lower than it deserves (as absurd comedies tend to be) and it's the first one that came to mind.

White Chicks

Edit: To elaborate I just love how it is equally offensive to every gender and race. They pack so much into the runtime; like the beginning where they are dressed like Cubans on a stakeout for seemingly no reason.

9

Beat me to it. 6.6 IMDB, 33% RT. It stars Antonio Banderas as an Arab, but goddamnit I love this flick.

3

Came here to say this.

It predates LOTR just by 2 years yet I couldn’t help myself thinking how much Peter Jackson drew inspiration from it. Very similar shots, very similar visuals, very similar soundtrack, but ABYSMAL storytelling really ruins everything.

2

Probably Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen. Does it have a ton of cringe moments? Yeah. But it's also fun as fuck.

Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny It has a 53% on RT which isn't terrible but it bombed at the box office which it absolutely didn't deserve

Hudson Hawk gets a 5.7, which I think is criminal.

6

That was a fun movie with some of the most over the top bad guys ever.

Bunny, Ball Ball!

I really don't care about ratings and never look at them. One of my favourite movies is freddie got fingered and i'm pretty sure that movie was pretty hated.

Exorcist II - The Heretic (1977).
I love the atmospheric, almost psychedelic vibe of this film. The scenery and settings are stunning, Blair is blooming and the story is very interesting. It's certainly not perfect, but there is a lot to enjoy in there.
There have been a few versions released, so each might influence perception differently. I hope to see them all, eventually.

Exorcist 3 is an overlooked masterpiece but was received quite well by critics so not really suitable for this thread. Just wanted to plug it in case someone hadn't seen it.

Best bad movie of all time. It's one of a few that are consistently entertaining and never boring. I show it to people at least once a year.

4

Lost River (2015)

I went into it with zero knowledge or expectation and was held by it from beginning to end (even when I knew it was blatantly emulating David Lynch etc, I didn't care, I was gripped). Only to look it up online afterwards and find out that critics and viewers kind of hate it.

  • IMDb: 5.6
  • RT tomatometer: 30%
  • RT popcornmeter: 38%

10,000 BC.

It got thst award for worst movie of the year. I get that its in no way historical accurate. And even in it's own world maybe it doesn't make sense thst the tribes never have met. But dang its just a fun action movie.

2

The Last Airbender.

If you just forget about the avatar series for a while, and treat this as a bit of harmless fun, it’s not that bad. Well it’s not good enough that I would watch it again, nor is it bad enough to warrant all the abysmal reviews. If you expect this movie to fit in with the series, all of the hate and anger is entirely justified though.

It all depends on how you watch this movie, and I would argue that there is a way to enjoy it. It’s not all bad.

1

Didn’t get a movie till the series got canceled but Blue Mountain State should’ve gotten more love.

Had a lot of good laughs from the series.

1

The series had some great moments in it. Almost like a college version (more sophmoric) of It's Always Sunny.

The movie though was pretty bad. Which was a shame given how good the last episodes of the series were.

Jason X is hilarious and I refuse to believe otherwise. Iirc it was like a 4.5.

"It's okay guys he just wanted his machete back!"

My husband vehemently disagrees but he is wrong. The scene where he froze someone then smashed the ice actually got applauded for its accuracy so there!
