apparently he didn’t even get paid and covered his own travel costs

Holy shit that's bad. Can't even try to claim the excuse of "a job is a job" and claiming there's no politics to it.

He ends that last reply with "no more spending taxpayer dollars, that era is over!" which is a pretty good indication that there very much is politics to it (so I agree with you, but also he isn't even trying to hide it, so I don't see him trying to defend himself by pretending he doesn't support their politics)

That was a good way to round out the original post, which just mentioned the “POTUS team” and pretended like it was acceptable human behavior.

14

but the exposure!

I’m sure all those right wing zealots will be lining up to give him lucrative gigs after this. After all, they’re known for their love of edm and the culture surrounding it. They certainly don’t despise everyone in attendance at the average gig (aside from the hot girls on molly they still despise but want to sexually assault)!

54

Supposedly, none of the musicians who played at the inauguration were paid for it.

Really tells you about the caliber of these people. Both the artists and the administration.

21

Remember the good old days when people died of exposure? Pepperidge Farms remembers, and wishes for those days to return.

The era of wasting tax payer dollars is over? I honestly don't understand how someone is this dumb.

239

Yeah, those balls are paid for by donating by sympathetic billionaires. It's the perfect opportunity to demand ridiculous fees because you know they have the money. (If you were inclined to DJ at a Nazi event).

79

He had a few songs I liked ~2013-14 but he was cancelled all the way back then for something, I think just being an a$$hole on Twitter if memory serves. Haven't listened to him since.

Trump received over $170 million in inaugural donations, primarily from companies and the extremely wealthy.

Yet, this artist didn’t get paid?

And the artist believes they were saving “tax payer dollars”?

And the artist seems to be catching blowback from his industry for the association?

This seems like the standard playbook for “working for Trump”, just in a 30-minute DJ-set format…

137

I mean this is the orange idiot we're talking about. He wouldn't have paid this guy regardless.

Are you sure about that? Last I checked he was dead.

Better Than Dead sounds like an early 2010s Metalcore band.

11

You shouldn't label him as transphobic if the only issue is that he said one thing wrong in an argument 7 years ago which he apologized for and took down. Is there a pattern of that behavior?

Every human misspeaks from time to time, and it looks like his response to feedback was handled with grace.

Rapper friend knew him from shows and shared an anecdote over ten years ago. He's dope live fwiw

Well, yeah, but my aunt's friend's dog's sister told my grandfather that he saved a kitten once!

Begun, the second Trump administration has.

Deadmau5 used to stream on twitch about his touring setup video system. He'd sit in his studio and craft wonders in TouchDesigner.
Fascinating to watch

61

I never really followed him, just not my personal style, but I remember seeing clips of those streams. It was seriously impressive. Dude seemed really in his element, and had an awesome setup all around.

23

Hopefully he's changed a bit since then, because he got kicked off of Twitch for making some racist comments, and he made some disparaging comments about trans women around the same time.

But even if he hasn't, a broken clock and all that.

8

I only know because it was circulating last night on Bluesky in regards to this comment.

Nobody knew if he still held those opinions and wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt since it's been like 6+ years since then, but it's still good to keep in mind.

The songs of his that I have in my rotation are:

  • On My Mind (with Yeah Boy)
  • How You Love Me (with Bright Lights)
  • Tokyo (with XIRA)
  • Hot Water (with Audien and Victoria Zero)

I guess I only like his music when he's tempered with a collaborator.

I doubt this news will change my listening habits, but it does provide more evidence I should buy and save my music instead of streaming it, so I can avoid further funding my political opposition while still appreciating their art.

I have never heard of any of those songs, and I listen to a lot of electronic music.

9

I had like 4 remixes from years ago that arent in rotation.

2

Do conservatives listen to hard techno, progressive house, dubstep, or other electronica genres? Do they go to massives and drop e?

Does Lauren Boebert listen's to Sophie's Faceshopping while jogging on a treadmill?

Perhaps conservatives do consume lots of electronic music?

Have you seen the recent demographics for Burning Man?

I haven't. Please enlighten me. Has the underground been stolen by "bohemian" tech bros who want neo-feudalism?

I'm not cool enough to attend burning ban.

Yeah, Burning Man used to be a like, art and tech DIY punk thing. These days, it's a music fest for tech bros and insta influencers.

37

I once got into an argument on this platform with people defending the average salary at burning man being six figures. They tried to tell me that it didn’t qualify as wealthy because I wasn’t considering that they probably worked in an area with a high cost of living and that probably didn’t leave them with much more disposable income than the people making five figures. I guess annually dumping over 5k on a drug trip vacation where you pretend to be a hippy for a weekend is something even the poor can afford.

He performed at a friend's venue once and was apparently a massive douchebag, ordering everyone around thinking the world revolved around him. He also publicly berated staff over silly mistakes and even publicly berated the openers.

Ugh. My friend and I have a name for people like that - door pullers. It came from this one incident we saw while travelling for work where some rich dude started angrily pulling on the door handle of the car because his driver (his actual driver, like not an Uber or taxi) wasn't fast enough unlocking it.

8

Glad you like it. It honestly just encompasses so much in two short words.

"Oh he's a total door puller".

Boom. You instantly know what you're dealing with.

5
lemm.ee

I'm more interested in whatever drama there is between subtronics and deadmau5 tbh

11

What the other commenters said, but if there was drama it'd probably be due to the fact that deadmau5 used to be one of the biggest assholes in EDM. He might be nicer now, but back in the day I'd never heard of someone having a pleasant interaction with him.

8

why waste taxpayer dollars

Translation: They offered me the gig with no pay and I was too much of a pussy to negotiate or just, y'know, say no.

11

Aww damn, I liked 3lau. This is immensely disappointing, but further kudos to deadmau5 for having his principles in check.

1

And he got paid in exposure, but not the good kind of exposure. More like the kind of exposure that gets a man arrested in a park.
