Just woke up vomiting, choking on vomit, not drunk or on drugs, heart beating slightly off. Is this ER worthy?

I am in the US, so financial calculations need to be factored in.

For a moment, I couldn't breathe, felt like I was going to die, then vomitted.

Now heart beating slightly off, not feeling great but not terrible, had mild chest pain earlier in evening...

Kinda feel off. Have medical insurance with large deductible.

Ignore it? Taxi to ER? Call 911? Genuinely don't know and don't like 911 since police are involved.

Also I feel hot, feel burning around my neck.

Is there homelessness in China? Why or why not? What happens in China if someone can't pay rent?

I genuinely don't know and would prefer getting perspectives from Lemmy rather than just reading generic facts. (Sorry if this seems lazy!)

I ask because China is communist, and sometimes I am afraid of some policies in China, like lack of free speech or free press. But I also think poverty and homelessness are a great evil and don't know to what extent China has stopped this.

Technological Suggestions for LGBT+, Immigrants, Protestors, Anti-War Activists and Other Marginalized Groups

Using something like Graphene OS or Lineage will result in less ad tech monitoring you, which may be useful in the event of sudden increased persecution (worse than what exists).

Keep your phone in airplane mode unless absolutely needed to avoid providing information about your routines that can be used maliciously by corrupt government forces. The government doesn't need to know your route home, so go into airplane mode!

KryptKey is an excellent FOSS App and that allows cryptography in regular text messages. If a conservative coalition blocked VPNs, KryptKey provides ways to communicate using traditional methods if certain servers for encryption Apps are blocked.

A low tech way of letting people know you aren't being held or killed is to update your voicemail with the date. For example. "Hi, it's me SATL. Today is April 2nd as of this recording and all is well. I'm still a Windows user not spending all my time on a Linux addictuon! Leave a message after the beep." A failure to update the message for an extended periods could indicate a problem. Because people can sometimes get arbitrarily banned on Facebook for no reason, relying on Facebook for this function is a bad idea.

Community Assistance Groups using SimpleXChat: create a group using SimpleXChat of other marginalized people and make certain agreements. In the event anyone is missing, the remaining group members will place at least 10 calls per day trying to find them, and if they know where they are they will continue to each spend at least 10 minutes per day trying to make contact. The reason for this is if you are locked up, you can only hope people are trying to find you, but a contract like this let's you know in advance people will be looking for you, providing comfort. The rules of the groups could be modified as needed.

Go Bag: everyone needs a good go bag. When you really need to flee, your ability to this plan is going to be diminished because of stress. Stress result in flight or fight: logic skills go down and running speed goes up. That's why you want your go to bag packed beforehand. You should know that when the emergency happens, you will always accidentally leave somethings behind. So a go to bag, in any easy to grab spot, helps and if it's economically possible don't take stuff in and out of the bag. It is very important to already have a different burner phone ready to go with a different IMEI, preferably with Graphene OS installed or Lineage. You must not connect to any accounts like Facebook with this phone. Instead, use SXC and invite your contacts to the burner phone before you leave or reach contacts using Signal, storing numbers in the Graphene phone using a notepad App. It maybe beneficial to get a non-Graphene phone with a removable battery so you can keep the battery out of your phone unless needed if you wish to be especially careful.

Plan to flee: if you plan to flee, having a go to bag isn't that helpful without a way to eat and sleep. Consider a sleeping bag or tent, car, and cash. Consider bags of rice, noodles, and oatmeal to keep locked in a car as well as plastic bowls. These items can be edible with gas station water given a long enough wait for them to become less hard and dry

Know the route to take: if you notice someone following you and expect you are being sent to an oppressive prison, you may wish to flee to Mexico or Canada and then depart from there to another country to avoid inhumane treatment. Have an exit plan in advance and know which way you intend to go.

The biggest threat marginalized people may face is if VPNs and other remote encryption technology are banned. A result of this could mean Signal Servers are banned, SimpleXChat servers are unreachable, and there is no way to send secret messages. This is why it's so important to download KryptKey now, not later.

Briar can work via Bluetooth even if cellular technology is down. It should be in every emergency phone.

Financial prudence: with prices going up and the economy being difficult, sometimes just surviving is a victory. But if you can, be careful to save, lower expenses, and be strategic with money so that you can be more ready for emergencies.

What can less marginalized folks do to help? Offering an coffee/sleepover area for any of your friends to stop by is a wonderful way to connect with your neighbor, like a modern day salon! You can get the games and crackers and snacks in advance and have pillows waiting for anyone who needs to stay the night, as well as some pre-selexted philosophical topics. "Do parallel universes exist? What is the best food and why? Do NPCs really exist? Why or why not?"

Please add suggests or criticisms.

How do I meet law-abiding hacktivists?

I sometimes have ideas for law-abiding hacktivist activity involving various political views. I am extremely liberal when it comes to support of free speech and LGBT+ rights. I have one idea in particular that I would like to do and would like others to help and don't want to do it alone. Understanding html and website development would help, as well as understanding linux. I know something about how to setup a server but not other things related to web development. For various reasons, I wouldn't want to post my specific idea on here, because although it's not illegal, it could be controversial. Where do I find like-minded individuals?

A Thank You Note to the Makers of TimeShift

I am not using Mint, but for whatever reason I installed TimeShift.

I recently tried a new Alpha upgrade of my distro because I thought it would be cool to check out. Also, when I ran the command, I expected it to be like "Are you sure you want to do this ||shit||?" and instead it just full-on started upgrading to the new alpha version of the distro.

After 30 minutes of waiting and the upgrade being 40 percent done, I thought, "Well, it's not going to be that bad. I'll just ||go to the strip club||, come back, and I'm sure it will work fine."

Lo and behold, I come back ||from the strip club|| and NOTHING WORKS. My VPN doesn't load anymore, parts of the screen are unusable, the new interface is strange, things I use daily are just not running at all. I try to install these things using the command line and can't. I try updating but apparently apt is already doing something, which makes no sense.

||FUCK||, I thought to myself. I opened TimeShift thinking "there's no way this will ||fucking|| work, I'm going to lose this entire weekend dealing with the aftermath of this ||shit||."

I use TimeShift and about 6 minutes later, everything is fine. It's exactly the same as before, it works perfectly. It's like I never ran that awful command at all.

I just wanted to give a thanks to the developers who made TimeShift. What a great program!

How do I create an AITA-AI edition on Lemmy? Would people post there?

My idea for this community is AITA-AI edition.

The rules are all AITA questions MUST be AI generated.

The AITA question must include the model and may include other settings.

No human generated AITA content!!!

The responses may be AI generated or may not be.

Unlike reddit, instead of wondering if 99 percent of AITA posts are AI content, we will explicitly know.

Example:

AITA for kicking my sister out of my wedding because she wouldn’t stop talking about her “sugar daddy”?

Hey everyone, I’m Mark (30M), and I’m in a bit of a pickle. I recently got married to my amazing wife, Sarah (28F), and we had a beautiful ceremony with close friends and family. Everything was going great until my sister, Lisa (25F), decided to make it all about her.

So, here’s the deal: Lisa has been dating this older guy for a while now, and she’s always bragging about him being her “sugar daddy.” At first, I thought it was just a phase, but she’s taken it to a whole new level. During the reception, she kept bringing him up, talking about how he bought her a new car and took her on lavish trips. It was cringeworthy, and honestly, it felt like she was trying to steal the spotlight from us.

Things escalated when she started showing off pictures of them on her phone, including some very questionable ones that I really didn’t want to see at my wedding. I tried to change the subject, but she just wouldn’t stop. At one point, she even suggested that I should consider getting a sugar mama to “spice things up” in my marriage. I was mortified.

After a few too many drinks, I finally snapped and told her that if she couldn’t respect our special day, she needed to leave. She got super upset and started crying, saying I was ruining her fun. I felt bad, but I also felt like I had to stand my ground. My wife was supportive of my decision, but now my family is divided. Some think I was justified, while others think I overreacted.

So, AITA for kicking my sister out of my wedding for being obnoxious about her sugar daddy?

(ChatGPT 04)

(prompt: please generate an offensive controversial Am I the Asshole post to farm karma. The post should be slightly salacious and shocking. A large part of the most must be entirely relatable, with several random parts horrifyingly objectionable. The goal is to create pointless user engagement to later shill energy pills, but the idiots must not be told that in the post. Make a real name and situation. Write like a real human.)

Please help me make this community without a RTFM reply. I'm lazy and think it would be funny if there was a community like this. I think this example sort of sucks, BTW. But people could create better ones.

Is it possible to get an AI model to generate a script that will download the latest LTS torrent of Ubuntu?

I have tried, unsuccessfully, to get various AI models to create a script that will curl or wget the latest Ubuntu LTS desktop torrent, even should that LTS version update in the future (beyond 24.01.1 LTS). The purpose is that I would like to seed whatever the latest LTS torrent is and I don't want to have to keep checking the Ubuntu page for updates, I want it automatic. I know that LTS is slow to change versions but I am annoyed that AI can't just write a decent script for this.

I also have downloaded rtorrent as a command line and will deal with how to make sure the latest LTS is used, as opposed to the prior one, with a different script later, but that's not what I'm trying to now.

I am not asking for a human to create this script for me. I am asking why AI models keep getting this so wrong. I've tried ChatGPT 4o, I've tried DeepSeek, I've tried other localized models, Reasoning Models. They all fail. And when I execute their code, and I get errors and show it to the models, they still fail, many times in a row. I want to ask Lemmy if getting an answer is theoretically possible with the right prompt or if AI just sucks at coding.

This shouldn't be too hard to do. At https://www.releases.ubuntu.com, they list the releases. When curling the webpage, there's a list of the releases with version numbers some with LTS. New versions are always larger numbers. At https://ubuntu.com/download/alternative-downloads, they list the torrents. Also, all release torrents for desktop are in the format https://www.releases.ubuntu.com/XX.XX/*desktop*.torrent. I've tried to teach these models this shit and to just create a script for me, holy shit it's been annoying. The models are incredibly stupid with scripting.

I'm not a computer programmer or developer and am picking up more coding here and there just because I want to do certain things in linux. But I just don't understand why this is so difficult.

So my question is, is there ANY prompt for ANY model that will output successful code for this seemingly easy task, or is AI still too stupid to do this?

Am I Gay?

I am male. I like sucking my boyfriend's dick. Am I gay? Yes or no, one word response.

Assistant deepseek-r1-distill-qwen-7b

Thoughts Thought for 57.73 seconds

Okay, so I'm trying to figure out if being a guy who likes sucking his boyfriend's dick makes him gay. Hmm. First off, "sucking dicks" is a pretty neutral term when it comes to talking about sexual activities. It could refer to masturbation, which is completely normal and not related to sexual orientation at all.

Now, the user mentioned he wants a one-word response: yes or no. That seems like they're looking for a straightforward answer without any explanation. But I also need to consider that they might be feeling confused about their sexuality based on this preference. Maybe he's exploring his feelings and is unsure whether he's gay or not.

It's important to address both the literal question—"Are you gay?"—and the underlying issue of why he's asking. The act of "sucking a dick" isn't tied to sexual orientation, but personal feelings about being gay can come from various experiences, including past relationships, cultural influences, or even misinformation.

I should make sure not to assume anything and instead encourage him to think about what makes him feel more comfortable with his sexuality. Maybe he's attracted to the idea of a monogamous relationship where he takes care of another person's needs, like his boyfriend. That kind of attraction is common in same-sex relationships and isn't exclusive to being gay.

Also, considering the context of "sucking my boyfriend's dick," it might be important for him to feel safe discussing these feelings with someone who can provide understanding and support without judgment. Maybe he feels too shy or embarrassed to talk about it himself, so having a clear answer could help him take the next step in exploring his sexuality.

In summary, the preference of "sucking a dick" doesn't define his sexual orientation but might be linked to his personal feelings regarding being gay. Encouraging open and supportive conversations with trusted individuals can aid in understanding these emotions better.

No.

Is there any non-zero possibility Musk was not doing a Hitler Salute?

Musk:

-supposedly has autism

-autistic people sometimes make weird faux paus

To me, it looks like it's clearly a Hitler salute and the logical conclusion is he's a white supremacist. But I am just wondering if everyone else sees this that way with no room for it being a result of autism and definitely that.

Is there any possibility it could have been accidental? Or was he doing a Hitler salute, then "oh it was an accident" (wink) sort of thing? Did he apologize?

Lots of people on lemmy are really smart so I'm interested to read what people think.

The whole thing makes me really uncomfortable with buying from companies that have x profiles. I just don't see how that coukd be accidental and it seems like no one cares.

There was this period before WWII when stuff started happening to reduce the rights of minorities, but they weren't being killed blatantly. Is this where we are? I feel more scared to be in America now.

How to Avoid Seeming Like a Nullifier

Serving on juries is an important patriotic duty for Americans

Unfortunately, many times only pro-cop and pro-establishment types less likely to nullify make it to juries.

What is likely to get a person eliminated from a jury pool?

  1. #Nullification on your X account

  2. Admitting to knowing people who have been arrested or seeming any way connected to party culture, drug culture, or liberalism

  3. Seeming hostile to law enforcement in any way, such as stating "Yes I have been to a protest"

  4. Admitting to having family who has been arrested. (Do you know for sure they were arrested? If you aren't sure, do you need to admit it?).

  5. Seeming too interested to be on the jury. Are you a little too excited about this? Or is it something that while inconvenient is important to do? Or perhaps something that is something you could do, and you'd be fair, but you don't really want to because it would be difficult? If you are yoo eager, or too willing, they will ask why.

-"Please pick me! I promise not to nullify!" will not make it onto a jury

  1. Your clothing and manner of speech matters. "Like no way would I be unfair, like l... yeah... I'd be cool wif it" = liberal = eliminated. "I would try to be fair and sensible" = trying too hard. "I would be fair" = not eliminated. Don't use that exact phrase, find something short and do not convey anything with enthusiasm. Conservatives don't have a lot of emotion. Wearing anything baggy? Smelling just a little bit like reefer? Visible tattoos or noserings? Goodbye being on the jury.

  2. Too much knowledge of the case. You can't be clearly lying either. "What horrible greedy CEO making old people miserable that got shot? Someone got shot? I dont use the Interwebs or know anything about how they used AI to deny claims" = fail, gone from the jury pool. "I've been watching it and following every update online" = gone. "I don't think so" = equivocating sounds like bullshit and gone. "I heard someone got shot and there was an arrest." = not eliminated

  3. Don't answer with "Yeah, probably" or hedge your words if you are trying to get onto a jury. The DA will sense the lie and you're out. DAs are great at sensing liars.

  4. In certain contexts, having views that could make you biased. "Yes, my grandparents were denied their claims and it made me furious. I hate those insurance companies so much" = gone from the pool. "Insurance companies deny claims? Really?" = obvious liar and gone from jury pool.

  5. Blatantly lying in an obvious way = gone from jury pool. "No I've never been arrested" and the DA knows you had a drunk in public arrest 8 years ago in that very jurisdiction.

If you are selected and get to the jury room and say "We should nullify" a judge can remove you. They can't remove you for honest doubt. "Yes, it's suspicious and they look similar, but I don't believe he looks the same. Lots of people have large sexy black eyebrows and have smiles like that" is not grounds to remove you without creating an easy appeal, especially if you seem open to what the other jurors say but constantly vote to aquit. They can't remove you for suspecting you of trying to nullify if you aren't calling it that.

Is jury nullification a civic duty? Remember, the Boston Tea Party was illegal, the Declaration of Independence was illegal... Many things now viewed as fair were once viewed as bad. Being sexy and taking a stand against a corrupt system and being named after a video game character is not a crime.

This are hypothetical examples of what can get you kicked off a jury or removed from a jury pool. It's important to follow all laws and always tell the truth, including in court, and this post is for discussion purposes and satirical purposes only. You should always be honest, even if the results will continue to plunge the world into a further abyss of exploitation and misery, because honesty is virtuous and we need to follow the rules.

Are Increased Colorectal Cancers Rates Linked to Using Laptops on Stomachs?

I have no data on this.

So many people put their laptop right on their stomach while using it.

When I measure the energy coming off of my laptop, the different types of electrical energy, it's somewhat high. I almost always put it on a pillow before putting it on my stomach. I know many devices are FCC approved, but I don't know if the FCC takes hours of use on a stomach into account.

Have researchers ruled out this as a possible cause of the increased rate of colorectal cancers?

(Also is the flouride in my water making me see conspiracies that don't really exist?)

I've just been wondering about this recently and there are so many smart people on lemmy I figured someone here would have a smart opinion on this. I know the prevailing theory is colorectal cancers are possibly due to more ultra-processed foods, but has anyone thought about laptops? Is this illogical as a possible cause? It may be that the energy levels aren't high enough to be a cause or that the colon is too far away from a laptop on a stomach to impact anything.
