I do not understand why people are so upset about this. People kill vermin all the time in far more brutal ways.

59

The only correct answer. Idgaf about some sky rat, but I'd be a little shocked if someone snatched a seagull out of the sky near me and slammed it into a wall until it died.

I'd also not give a shit five minutes later and would probably regale my friends with the story of the seagull slammer.

Right, this is animal cruelty. There are people who find humane ways to deal with “pests” or “vermin”, so the fact that we have extermination practices for some population of animals doesn’t make this okay.

23
lemmy.world

Compare this seagull bludgeoned to death with the average rat dying from poison. The rat is NOT getting the more "humane" treatment.

2

Whats cruel about it? The instant death? Or maybe the hyperbole?

everyone has thought about at some time, just never been old and cranky enough to do it….

sh.itjust.works

And those people aren't any more right... Seagulls are actually pretty interesting, long-living, and intelligent creatures. They simply can't compete with humans, that's all.

Humans should be above this sort of thing.

14

Then the gulls should be intelligent enough to piss off until we drop our food or throw it in trash cans.

Justified. I was in Edinburgh with my family and we had a lovely outdoor table.

I went to the bathroom and our dinner came out while I was in the bathroom and a seagull STOLE MY GODDAMN £30 STEAK. Just hopped up on the table next to my brother-in-law and yoinked my medium-rare ribeye.

Fuck those sky-rats.

Your fault for sitting outside in Edinburgh tbf.

29

Aye who the fuck leaves a steak unattended in Edinburgh? I'm amazed the seagull got it before a junkie scarfed it

As if you wouldn't steal a £30 pound steak if it had zero consequences and no morals attached, besides that I don't think anything deserves to be abused before getting killed and especially not in public with children watching.

24
lemmings.world

So you're saying he should had been more effective in killing the seagull in front of the kids

16

He just shouldn't have done it, but obviously yes that too.

7

if it had zero consequences

And yet, here there were consequences.

It's just a specific breeding programme and he was culling the failures. #evolution \s

5
lemmy.ml

I don't see where it says he abused the bird before killing it.

4

exactly, the swing probably was to get enough speed

1

Pretty sure it dying instantly in a quick whack is the opposite of being abused

Like no he shouldn't have done that but you're going a little overboard

I'd say the comments section is gross and cynical, but then I remembered this is a British community.

“Shouldn’t of” is a way of saying “I’m a basic dickhead who doesn’t care for your woke opinions, up to and including grammar”

1

It's also regularly confused with a way of saying "I went to a school with 'progressive' (read: stupid) ideas about spelling, where the 'teachers' would say dumb shit like 'how would you spell it at home?'"

Fortunately I missed all that nonsense and regularly had classes on the correct use of and distinction between they're, their and there; two, too and to; bear and bare; should have vs should of; i.e. vs e.g., etc.

Language changes but they should still make sense right? "Shouldn't of" makes no sense.

8

Especially when the opportunity for a cool ass double abbreviation is right there. Shouldn't've missed the chance.

It's amazing how many others there are rooting this guy on in this thread. I honestly wonder if Reddit finally is collapsing if we're seeing this sort of douchebaggery seep in.

Did I miss something? Did we get an influx? Usually I'm fending off socialistst extremists---

I know right, some people are so utterly ghoulish, they advocate for cold blooded murder left right and center. Imagine the twisted minds that would ever feel an urge to kill.... Pests?

Do British people go on vacation and just eat the same bullshit as at home

16

Don't want to accidentally eat any of that foreign muck or speak the lingo.

Stick to nice British food, like curry, burgers, Chinese, or pizza.

6
reddthat.com

Seagulls are filth. The more domesticated ones will basically attack you at the beach if there's any food.

Hopefully we get seagull slaying more mainstream.

15

Right? My wife doesn't understand why I hate seagulls but they are a nefarious and loud nuisance in coastal cities.

Yep, forevermore they will wake screaming at the thought of some geriatric gammon about to grab them by the legs

They're literally flying rats. Killing them is good. Gulls are an invasive species.

It's weird because it's not even about the killing. It's a good thing for kids to understand animals die for the meat they eat! The real issue is the violence of it. The absolute overreaction of it. Maybe the guy has severe gull PTSD and he snapped, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but a person in control of themselves shouldn't be this violent.

2

Oh fuck off. Some people are just unreasonable assholes.

I mean, yeah... We're kind of fucking the whole world up at this point.

Are you old enough to remember driving through bugs on long car trips as a kid? Yeah... Not so common now.

Winning isn't what our parents told us it was, friend. We're kind of killing ourselves, as a species.

8

That's the one that worries me. What was essentially the most successful form of life is plummeting. That's going to have major consequences, right along with the obvious effects of temperature, climate, and sea levels. I recently went out to visit a cousin in the woods, and where we once caught dozens of fireflies out of the hundreds or thousands visible.... we saw one. ONE.

5

driving through bugs…Not so common now

Obviously its because the sky rats are taking over the world quietly and this asshole is the only one noticing!

2

not the seagull apologists crying in the comments

2

Lol I live that your concern while 360 no scoping seagulls is, "How is this affecting my personal image🧐pewpew"

0

Not sure what you're trying to say here. From what I've seen Halal butchery is much more humane than non-Halal practices.
