This is America, sonny! You don't throw acorns like some forest folk! You unload your Glock 19 into the door frame and pray to God you don't need more ammo!
You acorn owners are all the same. Don't you know that acorn owners are twice as likely to have an acorn hit the roof of their car than non-acorn owners?
The stupid part is he used the doorbell exactly as intended. That's how he knew there was a kid at the door. He's just trying to shift blame to innocent people doing innocuous things because he wants to shoot them.
“Yeah, a malicious person is going to bother ringing the doorbell”
I mean, yea that is a tactic home invaders use. It's a good way to get someone to unlock their door. Is it a reason to shoot somebody for ringing your doorbell? Absolutely not, but being cautious about who you answer for doesn't hurt.
Sure, it happens, but most of the time it’ doesnt. Most people will never have that happen in their lives.
An appropriate response to that fear might be using an intercom or chain lock or video doorbell to find out, or get a dog, or choose not to answer the door
Not because I'm afraid of boogeymen, or anything, but because I just can't be arsed. No one I want to talk to would try knocking or ringing my doorbell. It's inevitably some tiresome asshole selling something, or pestering me about their whackadoo specialty religion, or begging for something, or it's the cops with the wrong address.
You're 100% correct. I was just replying to the "Yeah, a malicious person is going to bother ringing a doorbell" part of their comment that implied it never happens.
Yeah, I suppose it was an oversimplification, I won't open the door withtout some sort of seeing who it is first. However the dogs reaction is always assume that the person ringing the bell is a dire threat, and thus far it never has been.
Way too many people, especially Americans, have a gun-slinger complex. They're looking for an excuse, any excuse, to use their guns, and feel like they're "heroes". These people are dangerous and the antithesis of what gun owners should be - responsible and careful. This ain't the "well regulated militia" mentioned in the constitution, this is angsty, angry, insecure people with issues trying to act tough by shooting someone.
It's a murder fetish. Flat out. They can hem and haw all they want, the end goal of owning a gun is murder.
"what if someone robs you?!"
So what, take my wallet with no cash and a card that'll get locked. Take my phone and watch that are locked and my phone is set to factory reset after a few wrong codes. I can replace them.
"What if someone breaks into your house?!"
It's just stuff. 🤷 They don't want my fireproof document safe they want my consoles and pcs. My pcs are all backed up off site and the drives are encrypted.
In both cases I have serial numbers etc of everything also saved off site to report them stolen.
I put life over stuff. If you gotta pull a gun on me and demand my wallet you're CLEARLY having a worse day than I am. If I do have cash whatever take my $50 idgaf 🤷
That's kinda my thoughts on the matter. I have a couple rifles and shot guns that are mostly just family heirlooms, and one rifle that's explicitly for protection.
Unfortunately i live in one of the most dangerous states in the south, and I'm a minority married to a white woman. When all the racist people in the state were getting all crazy during the trump years, I decided having a rifle that wasn't an antique was probably a good idea.
But it's pretty much explicitly for protecting my family and friends from the potential of eventual racial violence. I would actually feel kinda bad for anyone who actually tried to rob my house, there's just nothing to really steal. Definitely nothing worth dying or killing for. Hell I'd probably make a pretty good return on the insurance claim.
Well, I mean, depending on how you define murder. The end goal of a gun might also be hunting (which might be murder depending on your definition of like, whitetail deer being something worth preserving), sport shooting, or vintage collecting/odd engineering collecting. The main alternative use case mostly being hunting, I would say, nine times out of ten, which is still shadowed overwhelmingly be people who are super fear-mongered about randomly getting shot. You can definitely still kill someone with, say, a hunting rifle, a .22lr sport pistol with a barrel weight and a custom grip and a 1000 dollar reflex sight, or a vintage civil war musket, right, but I wouldn't say that any of those things are really like, carried or owned with the end goal of killing someone.
I'd also bring up, as an intellectual point, more than anything else, since this really doesn't tend to be a successful tactic in modern society, that someone can take all your stuff, right, but it might also be a very valuable tactic to just straight up kidnap you. There's human trafficking, but then there's also, them trying to extort your immediate family. You would see this more with nobles in the middle ages, though, I don't think such a thing is really common enough nowadays to be worried about, basically at all, for the same reasons that it's kind of absurd to expect someone to randomly break in to your house and steal all your shit while you're still there. Most people looking to rob someone would much rather do so while nobody's home, for pretty obvious reasons. If you were to kidnap someone, you'd probably want to go for the highest ROI possible and just go for like, a super rich trust fund kid, or something, which isn't gonna be the vast majority of people. I think this tends to be the case more often in other countries.
The fucked up part to me is that we have convinced basically the majority of gun owners, who might otherwise be normal, non-gun-owning people in a different society, that they should own guns on the basis of self-defense, which is kind of mostly insane flat out. It's not a belief that's based in reality for the vast majority of gun owners, it's an idea that's been marketed to them as a result of a politically funded kind of cottage industry that funds weapons manufacturing in america and abroad.
At the same time, as we've seen in this post, this also results in a lot of crazy people with guns, which begets more people with guns in response. A literal arms race, much like we see now with car sizes, where people are convinced they must buy bigger to protect themselves. I can't really, in good conscience, say that, for example, a black trans woman, that will probably on average live to be like, 30, mostly as a result of hate crimes, shouldn't own a gun for self-defense. They might not want to own a gun for other reasons, right, like mental health, or not having the ability to really secure it or use it effectively, but I can't really disagree with them on the basis that they would want to own one for self-defense. I would politically advocate for this not to be the reality in which we have to live, but I can still acknowledge the reality of these sorts, honestly not super uncommon edge cases, while I work against it.
It's sort of the same frustration I encounter when someone inevitably brings up how, oh, well, they would otherwise take a bike, or have a small shitbox, right, but their kids, really, it's to protect the children. Really, they live way out in the boonies, and they have 7 children, so of course they need an escalade capable of towing 5 horses. I can't really argue against that, you know? Most people don't give a shit about like, what intellectually scales for society at large, they just give a shit about what's through their own myopic worldview, and I can't exactly blame people for acting in their own self-interest, even if it ends up being kind of shittier for society at large, or if it ends up just playing into a kind of broader cycle most people aren't privy too.
I don't know if exposure to modern gun culture makes people paranoid, or if paranoid people are just drawn to whacking off over their guns. But here they are ruining it for the rest of us. As usual.
Either way, most (all) of us do not have the types of enemies where we need to slink around our own homes strapped all the time, ready to dive under the couch at the slightest bump, rattle, or... ring of the doorbell. Dude. Nobody is out to get you. I promise.
I have an idea: If you don't want motherfuckers ringing your doorbell, don't have a doorbell.
Well... He has a gun and he thinks that its part of a solution. He's not wrong, he could just shoot the door bell instead of a random visitor and no-one would ring his door bell anymore.
People will knock on the door if there is no bell. I'd say have a doorbell but don't have it hooked up to anything. Hated when I lived in a place with only a door knocker, would always jump when there was knocking
That version is missing the best part, putting on the powdered wig and shouting "Tally Ho, Lads! " as he blasts the rapscallions apart with the stair-mounted cannon
There are articles about this incident as the person posting was a public figure.
I also think he died later that year of "natural causes" at home, and that he was actually known for being quite a humanitarian. I remember speculation that he had suffered serious health and especially neurological damage from covid -- and no, I don't believe he was any kind of antimasker or the like. Hopefully I am not mixing up separate events.
If all that’s true, there’s a failure of someone to intervene. We have an altered mental state and threatening someone’s life for a minor nuisance. Someone really needed to see if he was serious and if he was still in a sound enough state to do things like drive or posses deadly weapons.
How would people feel if he really shot a kid for ringing his doorbell? When he warned people ahead of time? Especially if he was later found to have an altered mental state ifrom health issues?
Does anyone ask these psychos why they’re so utterly terrified of everything? He’s basically saying he’s scared of kids at his door. This is not badass tough guy behavior, I don’t care if you’re “not fucking around”, you’re a scared little pissbaby.
I do however want to segue into an idea I had for a new doorbell. Basically when you press the button, instead of immediately ringing inside the house, a pre recorded voice asks a series of questions. Then, AI analyzes the answers against your set of rules and determines if the person is allowed to be interrupting you. Imagine a sales person ringing your doorbell and getting you asking "hey what's this about? Is she expecting you?' And then declining to ring the doorbell and asking them to leave. My cats would be thrilled.
I love this idea. It could be used and programmed to individual preferences. I would train it that if they said they were police it would ask if they have a warrant and if they didn't it wouldn't ring the bell.
It's an annoying amount. Jehovah's Witnesses (they are relentless), Verizon (trying to get people to switch ISP services from Comcast), shady home security services that ask way too many probing questions, local activists seeking donations for their cause, and political campaign volunteers.
Generally if there's a knock on my door, I ignore it.
there are ways to get into the jehovas witness shitlist so they never bother you again like telling them youre disfellowshipped, as its forbidden for them to interact with disfellowshipped members.
Answer the door naked once, and the JWs will blacklist you. If you aren't willing to get naked, order the biggest lifelike dildo you can get for under $20 bucks and hand it to them the next time they call.
While it varies a lot and I probably miss many for not being home, I see at least every month when the weather is good
When there were younger families in the neighborhood, there were always kids looking to fundraiser in various ways to help fund kid activities. Selling Girl Scout cookies is a ver well known example but many kids activities do this
now I mostly see home improvement solicitations, “we’re in your neighborhood doing x and we’ll give you a special deal if you do it now”. I don’t know if those are ever legit but it’s a well known scam
election stuff. Way too much election stuff. New candidates need many signatures of support to get on a ballot. Local politicians want to become a familiar face. Activists want signatures for ballot initiatives or referendums
easier screening process, make them ring the doorbell three times to actually ring it, and then make the first two shock them just a little bit. should screen out most people who are ringing your doorbell for trivial reasons, and if you know the trick you could just push it with the sleeve of your shirt, or a stick, or something.
you could also just get a no soliciting sign, though.
Currently a video doorbell can pop up a picture on your phone so you can make the same decision. Most can also act as an intercom.
My first reaction was to like the idea as a nice extension to existing functionality, I don’t see it working.
Someone you don’t want to see has no reason to be honest: solicitors are already in a gray area trying to trick you out of your money and there’s no reason it would stop here
Someone you do want to see may be annoyed and discouraged at jumping through too many hoops. You’re not that important to deal with that
— "I almost shot the bitch in her face, stop fucking with my doorbell"
...
...
— "Guys, I just said that to warn about dangerous people out there. There's bad people out there who grab their gun when someone rings their bells. Not me, I'm an angel".
What the actual fuck. He told a small child searching for a lost pet that if she rang his doorbell again he "might pull her hair"? What kind of crazy fucktrumpet do you have to be to not only threaten a SIX YEAR OLD with a gun but also threaten to pull her hair like a schoolyard bully?!? What is WRONG with this guy?
My buddy from HS is one these right wing idiots. He had a story bragging about how he scared away a census worker who had the audacity to ring his doorbell unexpectedly. People are fucking dumb
Well, knocks after midnight I tend to bring a firearm just in case... I also live in the sticks so late night visitors are very uncommon. Usually it's a car accident that I didn't hear (which is weird, most of them fly through here and make sound like rolling thunder into the ditch or tree)
Same here. Out in the boonies, you keep one to hand, especially at night, but actually drawing without a good reason is just bad safety. Hand on it, ready to draw, sure.
I have cameras everywhere now, so it helps, but at night it's hard to make out faces, even with nightmode on. Scariest thing happened near here when I was a kid. We came home to blood smeared on our storm door with a hand print on the inside door, red splotches all over the porch. We found out someone had a car accident and tried to het help but no one was home. Neighbors said their leg was messed up in odd angles and were scratched all to hell but the emts thought they'd be fine. I felt bad as a kid for thinking "glad I wasn't home..." but they had no one to get help until the neighbors finally saw them.
That's why I can't just ignore the very rare instances of someone knocking at night. Wouldn't be able to live with myself if I could have helped and didn't.
Luckily, all I really care about via the camera is weaponry already in the open. If they're not armed and ready to go, I'll take the risk of being faster or not in case it's a person needing help. So far, I have never regretted answering the door, though there was one time the help wasn't exactly fun.
Drunk lady got dumped out of a car (probably for being a drunk idiot, because she was with me lol) on the edge of town, in the mountains, in January in clothes totally not fit for sub zero temps. I got her home, but jfc I wanted to dump her out again after five minutes. I hate drunks to begin with, but she was obliterated, trying to put her hand in my pants, and slobbering everywhere.
If that's the worst that ever comes my way, I'm happy lol
Well, that works to an extent. But there's two flaws.
First, by asking loud enough to be heard through a door, you're waking up anyone trying to sleep if the knocking/bell didn't.
Second, and more importantly, what they say doesn't matter. If it's a stranger (and it would be, anyone that knows me has my phone number and knows to get in touch first at that time of night), there's a zero trust situation. You hope things are legit, but you can never assume they're telling the truth.
Like, if I'm going to try to rob or fuck someone up, it isn't like I'm going to declare that when they ask who it is.
Why would I assume that the random stranger in the night is going to be truthful? I don't, I assume that any of the wide range of possibilities is in play, and prepare for them as best I can.
My default is polite but wary. Wary means prepared to handle a bad situation. It's just that simple.
I don't get it. If a doorbell freightens you so much, why don't you get a most with a drawbridge, why have a front door and especially, why have a bell? At that point it's just a Honeypot and you're just there waiting for some kid to press it so you can murder them
People are generally not too smart but Republicans are just in a whole league of their own
As someone who rang every doorbell in my neighborhood multiple time a year from ages 6-11 to sell cookies, cookie dough, frozen pizza subscriptions, candy bars and magazines, fuck this guy. But also, we need better funded schools in the US.. do kids still have to do this shit?
7 years ago... Ten years ago now? I was reading electric and gas smart meters that were unresponsive. I'm not sure if it was more suspicious that I knocked (company policy) before doing sneaky peaking around side yards, but in the last couple months doing it there were 2 times I was definitely approached with a hand on a firearm (me in electric blue jacket and highlighter yellow safety vest). dude, chill the fuck out and answer your effing door
WTF is "his six"? A revolver? Is he saying he sat there in terror, loading his revolver one bullet at a time because a kid rang his doorbell? Someone please take this person's firearm away.
Tacticool bros can’t even keep their dumb oorah slang bullshit straight
Guy should just spend the rest of his life in a room playing with GIJoes or whatever, christ
This loser would be a hoot at a kid's haunted house. Cardboard hand-painted skeletons with crepe paper accordion limbs would have him shitting his pants.
In all reality tho, that dude is scared of that someone ringing his bell being a 3-letter agency. That response is one of someone into some shit he is scared of spending life behind bars for and he'd rather go out rootin' tootin' shootin'!
I'm over guns in the US it's stupid. We are all numb to killings/shootings. That's now how it's supposed to be. We need tighter regulation across the board not state by state.
Now that kid's gonna get made fun of by some other adult for being scared to ring doorbells. "Kids these days... Too busy watching TikToks to go outside and knock on a neighbor's door!"
Might think they aren't fucking around, but take a shot at random folks ringing the doorbell and theyll definitely find out... Cops are gonna show up, and they're likely to be a little grumpy.
I live in rural north Idaho, which is definitely one of the places you're referring to, and simply saying you feel threatened is only going to get you so far... Your assertion that the random person at the door was a threat has to meet a "reasonable" criteria. A reasonable person would have to feel threatened under the circumstances.
Putting a .30-30 round through the front door when somebody rings the doorbell is a total crapshoot. If it's the pizza guy or FedEx, I'm 100% fucked, because nobody's going to buy that they were being threatening in any way.
my neighbor lit up a coyote one night who thought it was a home intruder. dude went on a justification spree on Facebook after the cops came. "it could've been someone coming to rape his daughter" he says. these people are insane.
Wasn't there some series of news reports about scams involving children pretending to be lost, but there was some person nearby waiting to jump you?
I'm not sure if those reports were accurate but i remember hearing about the scam and there being some fear around it. I would like to imagine there's the possibility of this individual overreacting to such reports, and maybe they aren't legitimately afraid of a six year old, but i don't actually know that to be the case.
Edit:
Talking about stuff like this (link below). Again, not saying that the individual was right, but sometimes people read a report and go crazy over It
Right, totally agree. Hopefully it doesn't seem like i would remotely disagree with that. Although I'm not aware that he shot anyone, i did infer that it's a crazy overreaction nonetheless. But everyone seems to be focused on him being afraid of the child, when i don't think that's quite accurate.
That doesn't make him smart or correct. He's still crazy.
I'm all for the individual right to a firearm. It's a long discussion as to why. However, we should totally make an exception where if, say, a super majority of everyone in your county thinks you shouldn't get to have a gun, you probably shouldn't get to have a gun.
to be fair, most of america isn't really safe. having a pistol might be warranted in some circumstances. but always verify the threat is real before reaching for it...
Unless you’re bicycling in Cougar territory, the feline variety, that’s unreasonable fear talking. It’s very rarely as dangerous as what’s in your head and a lot of times that danger is fearful people carrying deadly weapons they are not trained to use
I feel like this should be submitted to someone for a mental health review, this person should not own guns
If only there was some sort of screening for that, hmm.
No we can't do that because hypothetically someone with a revolver is going to stop an entire dictatorship one day.
We're waiting...
Mental health issue is a distraction by the right wing so no one looks too hard at the misanthropic mind washing they've been doing.
These people shoot people because they're hateful shits.
I promise not to use the doorbell, instead I shall announce my arrival by throwing acorns at the door.

Just make sure there are no cops.
They might send a tank to take care of the acorn threat.
Why does this guy even have a doorbell?
How else would he know the burglars are coming?
The stupid part is he used the doorbell exactly as intended. That's how he knew there was a kid at the door. He's just trying to shift blame to innocent people doing innocuous things because he wants to shoot them.
Gotta have a reason to blast a kid these days sadly.
Because if they stand in front of the door knocker, the knocker might deflect the bullets.
At my house we mock the dogs for freaking out over the doorbell. "Yeah, a malicious person is going to bother ringing the doorbell"
This guy is on the level of our dogs.
Except dogs actually have a sense of loyality and can be loving. This person is just a fucking cockroach
Oh, I don't think you can call his loyalty into question. I'm sure this man is very loyal.
To the right people, like a dog. The kid was probably black, which means he's the wrong people.
I mean, yea that is a tactic home invaders use. It's a good way to get someone to unlock their door. Is it a reason to shoot somebody for ringing your doorbell? Absolutely not, but being cautious about who you answer for doesn't hurt.

An unopen door is a happy door.

If you need a gun in order to feel safe in your own home, you live in a shithole country.
This is a safe country. Only the assclowns feeding off manufactured fears so they can own an arsenal think otherwise.
Unless you're a minority and there's a cop nearby.
Welcome to Russia. Here good Uncle Voenkom will give you gun bo matter you want it or not, but you will be in someone else's home.
Or have a shithole mindset.
Or you have a severe case of paranoia.
The entire world is a shit hole at this point
Not quite yet, but we're working on it.
Always has been 🌍👨🚀🔫👨🚀

Yeah, but imagine their reaction to a door knock.
Or maybe they'd panic so much they'd shoot themself for fear of what could come next from the big loud boogie man out front.
What about their reaction, when an acorn falls on the floor in front of their door? 🐿️
I can live with that.
"Sir, you are punching the main gangway into my abode! Hands in the air!"
So they know who to shoot!
So he can claim he was terrified for his life when he starts blasting 5 year olds through the oak panels.

Explanations of bad behavior should not be automatically interpreted as excuses for bad behavior.
This really should be permanently on the "make a comment" page on apps and sites like Lemmy
Signs his own facebook post. This man is 100 years old.
Lmao it's always mfs like this. He's gotta have a pfp with the Oakley shades in the driver's seat of a truck somewhere
With the 5.11 khakis. Betcha he stands with his hands clasped in front, too.
My grandpa writes texts like corporate emails. It's really silly. He's like 80 tho
Does anyone ask these psychos why they’re so utterly terrified of everything? He’s basically saying he’s scared of kids at his door. This is not badass tough guy behavior, I don’t care if you’re “not fucking around”, you’re a scared little pissbaby.
When my brother was getting up in arms about LGBTQ books and stuff in schools, this is how I framed it to ridicule him.
"Why do you feel threatened by gay and trans people? Why are you afraid of the LGBTQ?"
Being intolerant and everything, having it framed that way really got under his skin.
Then why does the dude have a doorbell? Oh so it’s a game to him. He wants to shoot kids.
This is insane.
AI doorbell: Please state why 'your house is on fire' is a valid reason to interrupting the individual inside.
AI doorbell: Sorry, I didn't catch that. Please state your reason again. Sorry, I didn't catch that. Please state your reason again.
Salespeople would very quickly switch to knocking loudly.
I love this idea. It could be used and programmed to individual preferences. I would train it that if they said they were police it would ask if they have a warrant and if they didn't it wouldn't ring the bell.
Personally I would like people to do a minimum of 5 Captchas to send me a text message.
Not being from the US: how many unsolicited visits do you get that this is even a problem? And who is it?
Living in a rural area, it's relatively rare.
"Nah, I'm not soliciting. I'm trying to give you a free quote on new windows for your house"
"No, I didn't see that NO SOLICITING sign posted two inches above the doorbell"
SCREAMING BABY IN THE BACKGROUND BECAUSE THE DOORBELL WOKE HER UP FROM HER NAP "Do you have a minute to talk about your cable provider?"
there are ways to get into the jehovas witness shitlist so they never bother you again like telling them youre disfellowshipped, as its forbidden for them to interact with disfellowshipped members.
Answer the door naked once, and the JWs will blacklist you. If you aren't willing to get naked, order the biggest lifelike dildo you can get for under $20 bucks and hand it to them the next time they call.
I'd say less than one per month where I live. (Not downtown city but also not rural)
While it varies a lot and I probably miss many for not being home, I see at least every month when the weather is good
easier screening process, make them ring the doorbell three times to actually ring it, and then make the first two shock them just a little bit. should screen out most people who are ringing your doorbell for trivial reasons, and if you know the trick you could just push it with the sleeve of your shirt, or a stick, or something.
you could also just get a no soliciting sign, though.
Currently a video doorbell can pop up a picture on your phone so you can make the same decision. Most can also act as an intercom.
My first reaction was to like the idea as a nice extension to existing functionality, I don’t see it working.
My Ring does this already
A salesperson would just keep ringing or knock because they would want to make the sale, they're persistently annoying
That guy was a total asshat: https://www.click2houston.com/news/local/2023/05/08/my-6-was-loaded-texas-weatherman-apologizes-after-viral-posts-about-almost-shooting-child-who-rang-his-doorbell/
This man has a point, it's well know that people intended to do harm to you in your home always announce their presence before getting started.
Narrator: He is, in fact, fucking around, and one day he is going to find out.
My buddy from HS is one these right wing idiots. He had a story bragging about how he scared away a census worker who had the audacity to ring his doorbell unexpectedly. People are fucking dumb
Census workers are federal employees last I knew. I wouldn't want to find out how many things could go wrong threatening such.
It's specifically a crime to threaten them, they're better protected then cops in that regard.
I can’t tell if this is satire or a meth lab. I hate poe’s law.
Depends. If it's satire, then it's referencing an actual event in recent US news where a kid was shot for ringing the doorbell.
Don't forget about the girl who was murdered in upstate New York because her friend took a wrong turn down a long driveway that looked like a street.
If we count teens, I can think of two in the last few years. Thankfully, only half of those were racially motivated. Go America.
Frankly, homie be trippin, and needs his/her firearm rights suspended until they can pass a competency hearing.
I'm a paranoid old fuck, and I still don't draw down because there's a knock at the door. Nobody sane does that.
You could always try “who is it?”
Good job the kid wasn't black, or we'd be seeing this on the news.
Then... WHY HAVE A DOORBELL?
Sadly, yes
7 years ago... Ten years ago now? I was reading electric and gas smart meters that were unresponsive. I'm not sure if it was more suspicious that I knocked (company policy) before doing sneaky peaking around side yards, but in the last couple months doing it there were 2 times I was definitely approached with a hand on a firearm (me in electric blue jacket and highlighter yellow safety vest). dude, chill the fuck out and answer your effing door
So what's the deal? Just rush in without ringing and try to shoot the house owner first?
Rush B, rush B.
[MATCH] Let's not rush B
[TEAM] Let's rush B
WTF is "his six"? A revolver? Is he saying he sat there in terror, loading his revolver one bullet at a time because a kid rang his doorbell? Someone please take this person's firearm away.
Yes, a "six" is usually a revolver with 6 chambers. And I assume it was already loaded, since he wrote "my 6 was loaded".
And here I thought you'd six was your back side.
Tacticool bros can’t even keep their dumb oorah slang bullshit straight Guy should just spend the rest of his life in a room playing with GIJoes or whatever, christ
This weatherman might have been "preparing snow for next week's forecast." <_<
I'm over guns in the US it's stupid. We are all numb to killings/shootings. That's now how it's supposed to be. We need tighter regulation across the board not state by state.
2nd amendment rage porn
Now that kid's gonna get made fun of by some other adult for being scared to ring doorbells. "Kids these days... Too busy watching TikToks to go outside and knock on a neighbor's door!"
You laugh, but what if that child asked for tree fiddy?
Goddamn locness monsta almost got me again!
"An armed society is a polite society", or so I'm told.
Geeze if this isn't 90% of the Nextdoor experience...
Man this person would have been fucked 30 years ago. Every knock would have potentially been his last before he eventually landed in prison
“Trying to say ‘hello’ to me is a reason to shoot children.”
Maybe remove yourself from human civilization. You’ve turned yourself into an animal. Go be among the animals.
So in his country the doorbell is to signal the trap has been triggered.
Didn’t that guy end up losing his job because of this shit?
Idiot posted it on his work Twitter account as well.
So what's doorbell for?
no bell
only door
They should just shoot themselves and spare their world from their idiocy
Might think they aren't fucking around, but take a shot at random folks ringing the doorbell and theyll definitely find out... Cops are gonna show up, and they're likely to be a little grumpy.
Could be Florida or some places like that where it is legal as long as you say you felt threatened
It's not as simple as you're suggesting :)
Fine. I live in a duty to retreat area. If I discharged a firearm for any reason outside a range I am confident I am screwed
Hope the cops don't ring that doorbell
Thats literally what its designed for, 6 shots for 6 years ffs
tbh that is entirely relatable, my first instinct is also to want to shoot anyone who rings my doorbell who isn't a package delivery person
You monster! I always double tap the delivery person cause could be 2 kids in a delivery person coat
Rookie move. You always go Mozambique Drill, in case it’s three really small ones. They’re sneaky like that.
That's why I keep a cannon loaded with grapeshot at the top of my stairs.
Tally-Ho lads!
Package delivery people should be the first ones you shoot, because they have a truck load of goodies waiting for you to unload.
(Hmmmm, did I just get myself put on a list somewhere?)
Seems like they need to disconnect their doorbell
Yep, gun owners are nuts.
AND he's a flat-earther. Why am I not surprised.
my neighbor lit up a coyote one night who thought it was a home intruder. dude went on a justification spree on Facebook after the cops came. "it could've been someone coming to rape his daughter" he says. these people are insane.
Oh BTW it's a météo guy .and it was around haloween if I remeber ?

Is this a Facebook post about the article about a Facebook post? What is going on lol
Again, not saying that the individual was right, but sometimes people read a report and go crazy over It
https://www.koat.com/article/child-s-knock-on-the-door-a-scam-police-say/5052832
Meh. Prank or not, ROBERY or not, I don't think it's right to shoot a child at your door
A background check just like they do for security clearance.
Background checks don't catch "has a terrible idea of what counts as reasonable behavior."
The mental health services we ought to have instead of answering every issue with armed police, ought to have a temporary say
Bruh I feel you. Imagine how much better shit would be if we sent specialists instead of a poorly trained generalist with a gun.
to be fair, most of america isn't really safe. having a pistol might be warranted in some circumstances. but always verify the threat is real before reaching for it...
When everyone has a gun, you don't have time to verify.
Unless you’re bicycling in Cougar territory, the feline variety, that’s unreasonable fear talking. It’s very rarely as dangerous as what’s in your head and a lot of times that danger is fearful people carrying deadly weapons they are not trained to use
